[RBW] FS: Tires

2023-08-13 Thread twowheeledtexan
Have a few sets of tires that need to be passed along. Prices per set and
include shipping in US. Pics in the link.

Compass Switchback Hill Extralight 650bx48 $100 I forgot I had these
otherwise I would have been using them. Light use.
Bruce Gordon Rock and Road 700x43 $60 Low miles on these
Riv Fatty Rumpkin 650bx41.5 $35 I got these used, never used them and have
no idea how old or mileage but they feel like they'd be fine.
Schwalbe Ice Spiker Pro 29x2.25 $40 I had aspirations of using these in
the winter, never happened. Bought them used, have tubeless gunk in them,
but all the studs look to have lots of life left.

Re: [RBW] FS: EVERYTHING! Lots of parts and tools

2023-08-06 Thread twowheeledtexan
Thanks everyone for the response, I've cleared out a bunch of stuff. If
you've paid and haven't gotten your package or a tracking number from me,
either email me or just be patient I assure you it's coming, I sent out
close to 30 packages this week. I'm attaching an updated list of what's
still available, I'll take reasonable offers on anything. I also added a
few tools and other miscellaneous stuff. The original link for pics should
have it all.

I was surprised by the amount of responses for some of the items. Seems
like everyone wanted the Suntour thumbies and the Paul Racers. I hope you
all got something to bring you happiness, and I thank you all for helping
my family and I transition to a new life. Cheers!

Aaron

Thank you everyone for your interest and helping finance our move. I'm
caught up so far with emails and mailed a bunch of stuff yesterday. If you
haven't heard from me I'm probably waiting on a response from someone else
who has dibs before I respond to you. Please be patient.

[RBW] FS: EVERYTHING! Lots of parts and tools

2023-07-28 Thread twowheeledtexan
I'm moving and clearing out a bunch of stuff I've been hoarding. Prices are
shipped, PP or Venmo, you pay the fees or friends and family. Discounts for
multiple things, the more you buy the better so I don't have to ship
multiple little things. If you don't like the price just make a reasonable
offer. The pics should go along with the list hopefully. I'm in NW Indiana
an hour from Chicago if you really wanted to come pick something up. I'll
also be listing a few bikes soon. Please just message or email me instead
of crowding the forum with responses.

[RBW] FS: 58 Toyo Atlantis

2022-10-01 Thread twowheeledtexan
Hello Rivsters,

I'm parting with a couple bikes, hope someone else can put them to good
use. This is a 58cm Toyo Atlantis that I got off the group. It's in fairly
good shape based on it's age. Chain suck, cable rub, a couple chips on the
headtube, the usual for a used, almost 20 year old bike. I'm selling the
F/F/HS, seatpost, BB, and your choice of either or both wheelsets. The
silver wheelset is Velocity Dyads laced to a Shimano dynamo and Shimano LX
rear hub, both 36 hole, and have Rene Herse 700x44 Snoqualmie Pass tires on
them. They came with another bike and are in very good condition but I
can't comment on their mileage or who built them. The black set is Velocity
Dyads laced to a SP dynamo hub, and Shimano XT rear, 32 hole front, 36 hole
rear. These are Rich built from Riv, they also came on another bike so I
can't comment on their mileage either. These have Soma Cazaderos, 700x50.
Both sets are interchangeable without adjusting the brakes.

For reference in the pics, the bike is setup with a 5cm stem, Crust towel
racks, and the saddle height is 77cm.

Price for the frame and both wheelsets is $1800. Frame only $1200, $300/set
for the wheels. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility unless you want to
pick up from me in IN about an hour outside of Chicago. If you want/need
parts lmk and maybe we can work something out.

[RBW] FS: XL Gus Boots

2022-10-01 Thread twowheeledtexan
Hello Rivsters,

I'm moving on a couple bikes that aren't being used as much as they should
be. First up is a first generation Gus Boots in XL. I bought this off the
list and have only put a couple hundred miles on it poking around having
fun. It's in very good condition with only a few nicks/scratches that a Riv
rider wouldn't be concerned with, a little chain suck and some cable rub.
I'm selling the F/F/HS as well as seatpost/bb and the wheelset/tires.
Wheels are Rich built from Riv in excellent condition, Velocity
Cliffhangers, 36 hole, Kasai dyno hub up front and Shimano Deore rear hub.
For reference in the pics the bike is setup with 2.25 Schwalbes, Bosco
bars, and the saddle height in the pics is about 77cm. Buyer is responsible
for shipping, unless you want to pick up from me, I'm in IN about an hour
outside of Chicago. I think $2200 is fair, but if you don't make an offer.

These bikes ride like a dream. I've had a Cheviot, and currently also have
a Taiwan Atlantis with the rainbow TT, and the Gus is probably the most
pleasant ride of them all. If you want/need parts let me know and maybe we
can work something out. I've got loads of parts but have been hesitant to
let them go with the current market.

[RBW] WTB/T Cheviot for Atlantis

2022-01-11 Thread twowheeledtexan
Hello all, I've been on the hunt for a 55 and 59 Atlantis for some time and
after barely missing the last 59 Atlantis to come up I decided to put up a
WTB. I'm looking for the most recent iteration of the Atlantis, either size
for his/hers builds, complete or frame only is fine. I have a 60cm Cheviot
in the lime olive color that doesn't really show in the attached pic that I
could offer as trade. As soon as I find an Atlantis my size the Cheviot
will be for sale here.

Thanks,
Aaron

Hi Patrick,

Yes, you read the sizing correctly. It’s a 57cm frame and I included the
down tube measurement just FYI. I believe Heron’s website has more sizing
info.

I hope the pricing is considered fair. I’m not personally a fan of price
gouging based on current events, but that’s life.

[RBW] For sale: Heron Road Touring

2021-12-19 Thread twowheeledtexan
Hello RBWOB, I offer for sale my well loved Heron Road Touring in size
57cm. This is a wonderful riding bike that I’ve actually bought twice. I
regretted selling it the first time and luckily bought it back. It’s
currently not getting the use it deserves and if I’m being honest with
myself it’s not perfectly sized for me so I’m letting it go. The feel of
this bike is livelier than my double TT Sam, but not as quick as a Romulus.
I will say that I used to live on a ridge in the Seattle area with a short
18% grade that I commuted up daily. This bike I always felt would climb in
a higher gear than any other bike I commuted on. If memory serves right the
tubing is Reynolds 531. Herons were designed by Grant Peterson and built
in Wisconsin by Waterford. Bike is located in northwest Indiana an hour
outside of Chicago. Asking $1200. I’ll cover packing by my lbs, you pay
actual shipping.

This bike is in used but not abused condition. It has some scratches in the
paint and isn’t perfect but still looks very nice. There is a dent in the
area of the right down tube shifter boss. Is was damaged during shipping.
It doesn’t affect the ride that I can tell and it being steel I’d feel
confident leaving it this way for the remainder of its life. However I
contacted Waterford about a repair and received this reply from Richard
Schwinn himself:

Worst case scenario:

Replace downtube/bosses: $250

Repaint: $700.

If we can pull out the dent, replace the boss and touch up: Figure
$4-500. Unfortunately we'll need to replace the decals because the blend
will overlap.

If you repaint, it's your opportunity to try a new color (though we have
the old one as well.

Thanks

Richard

Those aren’t herons, look like sandhill cranes. If you’re referencing
acequias and the Rio Grande you’re possibly in Texas? If so Texas has a
hunting season for them and they’re referred to as “pork chops in the sky”.

Ever sell a bike and regret it? Ever stumble upon it again on Craigslist and
buy it back? That's exactly what happened with my Heron touring that I just got
back yesterday from the same person I sold it to. Hasn't changed a bit other
than saddle and bar tape. Still has the great ride that was my main reason for
regretting selling it. Looking forward to putting many more miles on it!

[RBW] Re: Hunqapillar 650B impressions

2017-02-21 Thread twowheeledtexan
Also, I forgot to mention the seat post troubles I had. I assumed it took a
27.2, but that didn't fit, so I inserted a 26.8 and went riding. After a 40
miler I noticed my saddle had dropped several cms. I readjusted and went off
again. During a 50 miler consisting of half gravel and single track, I could
barely ride 10 mins without having to stop and raise the saddle. After 1.5 hrs
of that I was steamed, and when we stopped for lunch I called Rivendell. I
vented my frustrations to an unsuspecting Will, who calmly explained that some
of the frames had been reamed to a different diameter and mine probably needed
a 27.0 post. Will said he was sending me a new Nitto post and some additional
binder bolts free of charge. Well that shut me up real quick, and although
irritated I was grateful for the customer service. The 27.0 post fit like a
charm and I replaced the binder bolt since I broke the original one trying to
tighten it down too much.

Moral, if you buy one of these have Rivendell double check the seat tube, and
also be appreciative of a small shop that does their best to take care of us.

I called Will a couple weeks later to thank him, he acted like it was no big
deal, but it meant a lot to me and I expressed that.

[RBW] Re: Sam Hillborne vs Heron Touring ... GO

2016-11-05 Thread twowheeledtexan
Hello all,
I'm the new owner of the previously mentioned Heron, and also an owner of a
58cm 2TT Sam. I thought I'd drop a line and give my initial impressions
after only a couple commutes.

My attraction to the Heron was mainly the canti brakes. I live in the PNW
and commute on my Sam, my 230lbs plus gear, rain, and hills is more than I
feel the brakes on the Sam can handle. First were the long reach Tektros,
currently using Paul centerpulls which are only marginally better. On
braking, the Heron wins easily with cantis.

The frame is certainly livelier. Lighter tubing than the Sam as previously
mentioned and the Sam has a 2TT. Heron rides more like my Romulus, and the
Sam feels more planted and firmer. The geometry of the Heron I also like
better, though that's a personal preference. The front end feels like it's
a lower trail than the Sam, it has that wheel flop turn in that a low trail
bike exhibits. The Heron also tracks straighter while riding no hands. The
Sam had a tendency to wander a bit at high speed. It would move a little
left, then a little right, almost like being billowed by wind. It wasn't a
shimmy, but nevertheless it was a sensation that I didn't like. So far the
Heron tracks straight.

I'll update as I have more time on the Heron. I did really enjoy my Sam and
if it had cantis I'd still be riding it. FYI, my Sam will be up for sale in
the coming weeks after I move parts around and get settled into the Heron.
If you're interested drop me a line.

with these.

Aaron
