Re: [RBW] New tire
The Michelin Pro 2/3/4 Race/Endurance are great tires if you can get them for a reasonable price. I just don't have a bike anymore that they are suitable for. I don't run anything under 38mm. But when I did have a bike that would take 28s I ran the "25" labeled version for a number of years with highly satisfactory results. Re: [RBW] New tire
So, rather different than the 23 mm Pro Race *Service Course.* I would be interested in trying them, if they were made in 559 X 28+. To save ~$500 on my next 6 pairs of tires ... Aside: I briefly tried Schwalbe's 559 X ~33 mm Kojak *tubeless* on my EQ 21 rims. They ride much differently sans tube than with even a light sub 90 gram 650C X 23 mm tube. Alas, while they maintained a seal while under sufficient pressure, when they deflated, the seal released, and I could not get it back with a hand pump -- which made the arrangement useless for my purposes -- I don't want to be left 20 miles from home, on some isolated dirt road, with no option but to install a tube in the messy tire -- and risk further flats with no further recourse. It's too bad, because the ~32-33 mm softness of the un-be-tubed Kojak was almost as good in feel as, and better in sand/dirt/gravel traction than, the tubed Elk Pass. Compass does not make the EP in tubeless form. On Wed, Mar 2, 2016 at 8:43 PM, Don Comptonwrote: > Pat, > The new Michelen that I bought is a new tire. Max lbs 85, min 57. Pat, The new Michelen that I bought is a new tire. Max lbs 85, min 57. I have used Grand Bois Cerfs for years and have always liked them. But, I was lured into giving the Michelens a try. [RBW] New Tire Trial: Rubena V66 Flash APS
For the last few weeks I've been trying out a new city/commuting tire: Rubena's V-66 Flash APS (Anti-Puncture System), 26 x 1.75.It is vaguely similar in look and tread pattern to the old-style Schwalbe Marathon (before they changed both their tread and their compound this last year). It also costs about half of what the Marathon retails for. Having ridden the 1.75 for awhile now I may be inclined to go down to the narrower 1.5 just to see if there's a noticable difference in ride feel. It certainly doesn't feel as sluggish as the newer version of the standard Marathon and so far I haven't had any flats. Given the choice in terms of ride quality and wear, the Rubena seems to be a decent tire for the money and I think I'd opt for it over the Marathon. http://www.rubenatires.com/v66-flash/ I haven't talked with anyone who's running these in 700c yet but if anyone is and wants to chime in, feel free.
