I think it will fit on the bus rack just fine. That is, a Nitto Mark's Rack with a Wald Medium basket zip-tied to it will not get in the way.The medium basket is big enough to hold a grocery bag, and if you use a bungee net, it can handle an over-stuffed grocery bag. This is what I use to get my groceries, although I also have a Wald Big basket on the back of my grocery bike, which will just fit two more grocery bags. Anyway your bike is too awesome. [RBW] Re: My new Custom Rivendell Mixte
Matt, Thanks for the tips / kind words. Now that I look back at the photos of the bike mounted on a bus, you may be right. My other (non-riv) bike has the Wald Medium basket zip- tied to a rear rack, and it has proven to be invaluable on rides with friends. Hey, want to go to this party at ___'s house? Sure But we can't go empty handed Lets stop by the grocery store and pick up wine and cheese (...my basket saves the day!) On May 1, 6:21 am, newenglandbike matthiasbe...@gmail.com wrote: I think it will fit on the bus rack just fine. That is, a Nitto Mark's Rack with a Wald Medium basket zip-tied to it will not get in the way. The medium basket is big enough to hold a grocery bag, and if you use a bungee net, it can handle an over-stuffed grocery bag. This is what I use to get my groceries, although I also have a Wald Big basket on the back of my grocery bike, which will just fit two more grocery bags. Anyway your bike is too awesome. [RBW] Re: My new Custom Rivendell Mixte
Hi Ness, Thank you :) I would love to see photos of your bike, and the BF. I contemplated doing the same with a BF instead of going the custom route, but I was in-between sizes, and didn't want to compromise on fit. Also, the lugs pushed me towards the custom route as well. I added to my photostream if you'd like to check out the new rear rack setup. Front rack + ziptied basket may be in the works if rear-only setup is too limiting. Thanks again for all the further compliments. I was very lucky to get this for a very, very low price, 3/4 the cost of a Home Hilsen frameset. I am afraid that some of the parts will have to change: I expect that I shall have to swap out the brake levers for something more modern to get decent braking, and God willing I will shortly come into a BM S12 dyno set to replace the country-correct but achronistic and glow-worm feeble Soubitez setup. I may well have to swap out the Simplex rd for a Shimano to accomodate the larger rear cogs I hope to find. It's already a mix: first gen Phil hubs, Araya rims, Turbo saddle. I may also swap out the Belleri bar for a 44 cm Nitto. After all, this is a user and not a looker. Again, looking for Jack Browns and wide range 5 speed freewheels with a 17 or 18 t cog in the middle and a 30 or bigger large cog. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: My new Custom Rivendell Mixte
Thanks, Brett. The bike actually has a SON dynamo hub on the front wheel that powers a Supernova E3 front light. This light is currently mounted to the fork crown, but I have been advised to remove that mount and put on a front rack. The rear light (a SpookLight), is powered by battery (and rechargeable by USB), and has turn-signals (with a wireless controller in the front). It is pretty sweet, but I am still getting the hang of using the turn signal controller.
