Re: [RBW] Re: Necro-stock! A shop with a new Rambouillet frame in stock?

2015-07-15 Thread Bruce Herbitter
All the Rams were made at Toyo. They were then sent out to other Japanese
shops for painting. Most were sold as framesets with headset, but a fair
number were sold as a complete bike with a particular parts kit that RBW
had a good price on. The earliest orange ones had more pointy lugs. Some
early ones had rear brake bridge anomalies. The most of any color are the
French Blue. That was also the color with 50 and 52 cm frames built for
26 wheels. Total run between all three colors was somewhere between 1200
and 1300 bikes, according to an email I got from RBW way back when. They
have heat treated down tubes and chain stays. medium weight tubing. Rear
spacing is 132.5 so they can accept several hub sizes. Max spec tire size
is 37 mm, but I think people have shoehorned 38s on. I have 2 wheel sets,
one with 32s and one with 37s. The 37s ride nicely, but you have to let
air out to get the tire past the brake caliper.

Yes, those are two different racks. Ben's does not seem to sell the F20 Mt
Campee

What Ben's lists as the Campee Front - 26 is sold by Alex's Cycle as the
Randonneur version. You can see that they're the same by the straight
tang at the bottom of the rack, and the three? accessory eyelets beneath
the platform.

The F20 Mt. Campee has the angled tang of the 700C version, aka the 27F.

Perfectly confusing!

What Ben's lists as the Campee Front - 26 is sold by Alex's Cycle as the
Randonneur version. You can see that they're the same by the straight
tang at the bottom of the rack, and the three? accessory eyelets beneath
 the platform.

The F20 Mt. Campee has the angled tang of the 700C version, aka the 27F.

 Perfectly confusing!

Re: [RBW] Re: Necro-stock! A shop with a new Rambouillet frame in stock?

2015-07-01 Thread Tim Gavin
The Randonneur (Alex's) / 26 (Ben's) with the straight tangs will clear
650b + fenders, with room to spare.

With the straight tang, it is intended to mount to eyelets on the front of
the fork ends, not reach around to the rear eyelets.

The upper attachment points are versatile; use any Nitto rack stay to reach
whatever brake stud/eyelet/clamp works on your bike.

If it wasn't for Sugino, Nitto would be the most opaque marketer in the
 bike industry.

The 26 version of the Campee w/lowriders rack is the Mt Campee. Just
be aware that the top platform on the Mt Campee is larger than the platform
on the 700c and 650b versions. It's as wide as a large trunksack (but not
as long), whereas the platforms on the 700c and 650b racks are the size of
 a small trunksack.

I have a front and rear Mt Campee on my Riv Road right now, and my
