I have a rom and an AHH. If you go from one bike to the other you can feel the difference. The rom does surge ahead at times. -sv On Thu, Apr 4, 2013 at 12:55 AM, Joe Bernard joerem...@gmail.com wrote: I've owned a Romulus and an AHH. Re: [RBW] What's that response called, and which model has it?
The Rams have heat treated downtubes and chainstays, giving a bit more stiffness and power transmission than un treated tubes. I don't know about AHH or Romulus. Not sure what their tube thicknesses were either. The geometries vary between AHH and the other two by enough to affect the feel. I think they all use good quality Japanese or other tubing and RBW custom lugs and drop outs. Roms were wonderful deals while they lasted and still are great looking bikes. Never made in my size though. Fortunately the blue Rams came in smaller frames too and I got one. On Thu, Apr 4, 2013 at 9:48 AM, Seth Vidal skvi...@gmail.com wrote: I have a rom and an AHH. [RBW] What's that response called, and which model has it?
Hi all -- I know there's a term for a bike that seems to spring ahead on its own when one is pedaling. The frame seems to absorb part of the power from pedaling and then let it loose at just the right time. My Romulus is like that. The bike seems alive! So once someone recalls the terminology for that urge, can anyone tell me if the Sam Hillborn or the AHH tend to have that response? Or which one would be more likely to be that way? I know that the AHH has a bit thinner tubing than the Sam, although I have no idea whether or not that makes a difference. Would the Sam or the AHH tube thickness be closer to the Romulus? You can tell that I want my next Riv to behave like the Romulus. And yes, even though the Rom is a great bike, after all these years, I NEED another Riv. Thanks for any ideas. I believe it's called planing or however it is supposed to be spelled... Re: [RBW] What's that response called, and which model has it?
Springiness, liveliness, and the terrible planing. Others will doubtless say different, and take into account my weight -- 175 -- but I found the Sam HIll (single top tube, 56) to be rather dull in this regard -- much like the Fargo. It was a decent bike and if it had accepted fatter tires I'd have kept it, but it didn't spring like my Riv roads. OTOH, it seems to be one of the most popular Rivs. Weight is not necessarily the issue, either: the Herse I owned was a tank (and I didn't care for the handling) but it felt fast -- wonder if this was because it fit so well? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
