Any leather shop will have a leather punch in plier form that is affordable
(under $20) and works well.
I use it to punch holes in leather and rubber fender flaps, too.

I used a small drill and followed it up with a leather awl on a Shapleigh's
Hardware c 1950 pocket knife.

I like sprung saddles. Just wish the leather shape wouldn't change so
 easily.

Brooks is coming out with a Cambium type sprung saddle in 2016 that I
 will be interested to try.

Speaking of lacing Brooks saddles, does anyone have a basic DIY for it? Do
I need a Leather Punch or Awl or can I do it at home with other tools?

Re: [RBW] Re: How to get out Brooks sit bone divets sop the rear frame down;t dig into my rear end.

2015-08-31 Thread Tim Gavin
In addition to adding tension to the nose bolt, lacing the bottom flaps of
the saddle may also help encourage the top back into form.

I used a Flyer on my Riv for the last couple years. It was my first
Brooks, and I applied a light application of neatsfoot oil when I got it,
to help it soften more quickly. My mistake! The neatsfoot accelerated the
stretch too much (I haven't done that again).

I tensioned the nose bolt and laced the bottom flaps, and now it's more
rideable. I moved it to my fat bike, where I really appreciate the
springs, and I replaced it with a Flyer Special on my Riv.

I killed a basic B-17 one day on a long ride in a downpour.

Lacing the flaps recovered it into a usable saddle.
