Re: [RE-wrenches] UPS no load draw

2018-03-07 Thread Darryl Thayer
Hi Jay I have not worked on that unit, but I have worked on some other
units. This a double conversion unit, it has double conversion, and I
think you are talking of the 3000 VA unit. It has both a AC to Battery
conversion and a Battery to AC conversion. So it has an efficiency and
tare losses. Usually the AC to battery is the lower efficiency, The tare
seems to be the same both ways. I expect your unit will be 40 to 80 watts
Tare. This what I have found on other units. This unit may be better but I
doubt it.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Stuck in a furl

2018-03-07 Thread Darryl Thayer
Hi Mac I have had a similar experience. But I am not saying the same. The
turbine has a nacelle that splits to furl. When we took down to repair the
pivot pin hole in the case was so worn it needed to be re-bored and fitted
with a bushing. I could not find a machine shop to do it because the
Nacelle has no alignment fixtures. The yaw bearing was also bad. I
reported to the customer and suggested he check with Pika as they had a
small turbine that might work. I do not know what the customer ended up
doing, I think he just added more solar.

Greetings Jerry,

I believe I remember reading some Trus Joist technical documentation
which indicated no more than one hole should be drilled or lag
screw/bolt driven into any cross sectional area of the top flange.  If
using the Quick Mount Q-Base with two lag screws/bolts, will you be
orienting the Q-Base so that the two lags are in line vertically with
each other or side by side?...  Seems like side by side (straddling
the web) may not be a good approach.  Staggered vertically (straddling
the web) may be alright if the size of the holes and lags are
appropriate for the top flange dimensions and can be installed where
allowed by the rafter/joist manufacturer's specifications.

I hope you are able to accurately identify the rafter/joist
manufacturer and the rafter/joist model so you can reach out to them
for guidance on what are and are not acceptable attachment methods for
their product.

Other thoughts:
If access to the underside of the roof structure allows, installing
appropriate blocking with proper hangers and fasteners would likely be
a more robust way to go.
I have looked into using stainless steel j-bolts to hook the underside
of the rafter members in situations like this as well; the rest of the
install from the top side is just like working with hanger bolts.
If the roof decking/sheathing and its attachment fasteners and
schedule are all known and sufficient, a multi-fastener deck mount
type mounting product may possibly be an appropriate and labor/time
saving option.

Mineral bitumen roll roofing. 2:12 slope.
Everyone who gave input below, thanks for the suggestions.
I've decided to go with the Quick Mount Q-Base product. It allows you
to get 2 lag bolts into the top chord on either side of the OSB web.

[RE-wrenches] tesla solar roof tiles

2018-03-07 Thread jay
OK all,

I have a question about their tile roofs.

Anyone know if they are set up for module level shut down?
Or anybody have any anything about them?

And I heard that they are advertising for installers, ie they are starting a
new not Solar city install company?

Comments?

thx
jay

[RE-wrenches] TJI rafters

2018-03-07 Thread Matthew Sirum

Best regards,

MATT

Bill,
Mineral bitumen roll roofing. 2:12 slope.
Everyone who gave input below, thanks for the suggestions.
I've decided to go with the Quick Mount Q-Base product. It allows you
to get 2 lag bolts into the top chord on either side of the OSB web.
Cheers,Jerry Caldwell
