The S-5 PV kits do work, we have used them on many standing seam roofs, it
does take time to eleminate issues with wiring but it can be a clean roof.

Ray,

I believe S5! offers an approved roof anchor that attaches to standing seams.

A bit pricy (few hundred, I think) especially considering they are one per
person but sometimes that's the cost of safety.

Not to hijack the thread, but how did you handle fall protection and work

Just finished using S5PV railess on standing seam roof 12x12 pitch. Worked
great, but wire management was challenging with minimal clearance under
modules. Had to think ahead to make it work. And still was a struggle. I
also used 6 rather then 4 per module to even out the loads on the roof panels.
I feel confident that it is solid, but I know how the roof was connected to
include proper clip spacing and screw size for maximum wind load here in the
Columbia Gorge and proper tacking of the top of the panel under the ridge to
prevent sliding down. If I had it to do over I would however have used rails
to make wire management easier!

Its not a large system. 16 modules on two roof orientations, ( 4 on one, 12 on

Chris,

What AHJ are you designing this for? We're only required to follow this
IFC section in certain cities. Keep in mind there is a 2018 IFC as well as
older versions. The 2018 is more favorable to us as designers and
installers as it's not simply a 36" setback but in some cases can be as
little as 18" at the ridgeline.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Solar Pond Aerators

2018-04-03 Thread Dana
An internet search of "solar pond aeration" turned up a variety of options.

I was trying to find the company I had used for new installs in CO and
repair of existing systems but did not locate that company.

At one time, simple solar pond aerators were available. A small PV module
and a box with a 12 V deep cycle battery, and a pump were mounted on a post.
A hose with a weight on it went into the pond. This system seemed to work
well for small ponds.

Does anything like this still exist?

Thanks,

2018-04-03 Thread Kevin Pegg
Hi Drake,

Let me know if you need help finding supplier contacts. In past we have sourced
aerators and 12V compressors from aquaculture industry supply shops. They had
many options available, match the compressor to PV module with LCB and done
deal.
