[Repeater-Builder] SPARE PARTS FOR YAESU RADIOS
I am in need of few spare parts for my Yaesu VHF equipments. After the merge to Standard Vertex, our old YAESU dealer is not able to provide me any spare parts. Immediate need is LCD display units for FT 2500 and 2600. Can any of our readers provide me a source, for international purchase? PETER VU2PJP

Re: [Repeater-Builder] SPARE PARTS FOR YAESU RADIOS
Peter, I don't understand why your local dealer would tell you this since the FT-2600 is a post merger product nevertheless I'd recommend contacting another Vertex Standard/Yaesu importer such as Vertex Standard USA, amateur division, in Cypress California. By the way, It was Yaesu that purchased the Standard brand radio equipment from Marantz of Japan back in 1998 then reorganized and renamed their parent company to Vertex Standard Ltd. Yaesu is still the amateur division. Gary Peter P J [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I am in need of few spare parts for my Yaesu VHF equipments. [Repeater-Builder] Re: Desense Problem on 222 MHz Repeater (window filter cannon fodder)
There can be good reasons for including a window filter with a duplexer. Reduction of high powered signals, which are IF Images would be one such appplication. Sometimes a plain jane duplexer just isn't enough. Sometimes a duplexer doesn't provide a DC return to ground, which is nice to have when/where possible. Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot here. :) If you need more selectivity for the transmitter or the receiver then put a cavity or two on the appropriate port. You get more for your money that way. Sometimes a cavity or two won't easily/properly fit the task/techical requirement. If you want DC ground a shorted 1/4 wave stub does wonders. Why add another possible impedance bump when the proper choice of cavities or equipment can provide or does the same function. ... if you need that function (a dc return). One band pass cavity does not make for a window filter as the term window filter is commonly used. ... by a group of people who normally work with both types... Yes a single cavity will pass two or more very close spaced frequencies but it isn't going to pass a tx and rx of a common 2 meter repeater with normal loss. Let's not stretch the term too far. I can easily get a single cavity to pass a 600KHz two-meter repeater with the expected normal loss. Not something I often need to do but there is no real stretch required.. In transmitter combiner systems individual cavities are usually placed at the output of each transmitter. Sometimes more than one cavity on each transmitter before going to the combine point. That provides the isolation needed between transmitters and the high power present at each and also affords some noise protection to others and to your own receivers. Placing a window filter after that has too many problems. Then you clearly haven't worked with every possible combination of transmit combiner. I have seen some guys do some really odd things at sites to make things work but doing it right is usually much more fruitful and less problems. An Amen from the crowd. Keep in mind the right thing can also be odd thing. It takes one cluster $#% busy mountain top to make one a believer. cheers, s.

I'm surprised the legal eagles in Caleefornya haven't come down on this guy for selling something with lead in it. I certainly remember throwing away dozens of these packages in my Heathkit-building days. I don't know what criterion they used to decide how much solder a kit needed, but I always had enough to build two of everything. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Antenna question for the forum.
Hi Steve, First, avoid using LMR-400 for duplex use. This and 9913 are not good for duplex. Aluminum shield and tinned copper braid rubbing together and setting up corrosion causing noise. This is not a very long run, try and get some 1/2 hardline, you will not be disappointed. Spend all you can on antenna and feedline. Take a look at the Hustler G6-270R antenna. Short and one piece, you only need to install the radials. (Use No-OX on the bolts that holed them in when building.)Low angle of radiation, built pretty solid. N connector. And the bonus is you can add a Diplexer in the repeater cabinet to add a 440 control receiver. I have this setup at 150' on a cell tower and it has unbelievable coverage. I have had a G7-144 in the air for almost 20 years, no problem. Top mounted at 71' to the tip. The G6-144 has less sturdy radials and a little less gain. They both will last a long time but figure on replacing ANY fiberglass antenna 15-20 years down the road even if it don't get a direct hit. The fiberglass just weathers out. Not to mention some of them suffer broken connections internally. Oh, by the way all of the Hustler antennas mentioned are DC shorted so less likely to take a hit if grounded properly. The Diamond and Comet antennas will probably only last one or two seasons in your weather! I could write two pages of faults in construction on these brands. Just not build sturdy enough. They don't last long here in Michigan. I am in the Detroit area. Good Luck, Shanon KA8SPW w2sxk wrote: Goodafternoon, Me and a friend are putting up a secondary VHF repeater and have a antenna question. Being we are on a budget but have looked at these 2 antennas as options. Diamond F22A monoband base or the Husler G6-144B Any pros or cons to these antennas and which would you choose or you have another option? Antenna will be mounted between 30-40' on multiuse rohn 45 tower fed with LMR-400 and subjected to typical Northeast USA weather North of NYC. Ofcourse if money wasn't an issue, I would prompt for a more durible antenna specifically suited for repeater use. We need to keep antenna size down to less then 10' in length and cost down as well. My choice was the Diamond F22A. It apears similiar in size and construction to the X-200 dual band and I have not had any issues with my current intallation. I used a Diamond X3000 at the 10,000' level on Mt. Haleakala on Maui for many years with no problems (believe it or not, lots of ice buildup and 80+ MPH winds during the winter is quite common. I was running a Diamond F22 on a UHF repeater for several years as well with no problems here in Oregon. I am now using a Diamond X510 with likewise great results. The secret is to not trust their o-ring seals and use some of that weatherproof goop on the joints. In my case, I also use a fiberglass arm at the 15' point (side mounted on a 160' tower) of the antenna's radome for additional support. Diamond antenna are great for long term repeater use IF you do some minor mods as above. And they perform like all get out to boot! [Repeater-Builder] Toko Filters for MaxTracs Available Again
Another batch of Toko 6DFB-915E-10 front-end filters for MaxTrac 900 MHz radios has been purchased and I have a few dozen available to sell. These are direct solder-in replacements for Motorola MaxTrac radios; they're NOT surface-mount filters. I don't know if they will work in any other equipment. These are the same units used in the 900 MHz MaxTrac conversion articles on www.repeater-builder.com. These filters are being sold in pairs for $20/pair. Each radio uses two filters (one pair). Due to increases in postal rates, the price for packing in a paddded envelope and shipping via USPS Priority with Delivery Confirmation is $6 per order, any quantity, to North American addresses only. An additional fee will apply if I have to mail them to Canada via Global Priority. I accept PayPal and USPS Money Order. Contact me directly at msf5kguru [ at ] yahoo [ dot ] com for details if you're interested in purchasing some. Requests posted to the groups will not be considered. I usually ship the same day if payment is received by 3pm Eastern time. I reserve the right to limit the number of filters sold to any single person. Bob M. [Repeater-Builder] Re: 220 MHz. Amplifier?
Robin, I bought a TE Systems 220 repeater duty amplifier 18 months ago, and it has been working flawlessly since I received it. It is made out of the highest quality parts, to commercial standards, with a large heatsink. I looked at its output with a spectrum analyzer, and it is extremely clean. The only negative comment I can make about the amplifier is they lost it in their own warehouse for over three months after I had ordered.
