If you paid them on paypal, and it hasnt been 45 days yet since the
transaction, institute a paypal chargeback. You can do this if you havent
been given any valid tracking number on your item.

This should get someone's attention on the other end.

If after 30 days (i think) paypal will credit you your expense. its called
 seller protection.

Paypal has a toll free number that works from Canada, so give them a call
 for details.

 Good luck

[Repeater-Builder] Mastr II combination decoding

2009-11-07 Thread Dave Cochran
Just for fun, I just did some rough coding for a page to automagically
decode Mastr II combination numbers;

http://n0trq.com/mastr_ii/index.php

It's not pretty, but functional. Still needs to do a little sanity checking
for different splits to warn about invalid combination numbers between LB,
VHF UHF models... I'll be improving the aesthetics and expanding the
machine types as well.

Hammer on it as you see fit, comments, suggestions, complaints for
improvements are always welcome.

[Repeater-Builder] Convert 406-420mhz Mastr II to ham band

2009-07-19 Thread Dave Cochran
Okay guys, I might be biting off more than I know here, but I've been
tasked out to try to get this accomplished for a new fledgling group
of hams here.
How much effort is really involved in converting a 406-420Mhz Mastr II
machine (combination ending in 77) up to the ham band?

Need to start learning more somewhere and this seems like a good avenue to take.

I'm sure someone must have written up a step by step guide for
re-tuning, I just have not found it yet. A point in the right
direction would be helpful.

Thanks,

Re: [Repeater-Builder] RELM SMUxx Link Radio?

2008-07-03 Thread Dave Cochran
Thanks for the ideas... I'll have to check on the Relm I have and see if
she has a 'busy' indicator, thinking it does, should have some 4N25's or
similar laying on the bench somewhere from another project, fortunately the
controllers aren't fussy and can use either + or - for COS.

I was trying to avoid using the speaker audio but it looks like that might
be the easiest choice right now unless I can find something better between
now and next week.

I have had good success in obtaining a COS signal from an 'unknown
circuit' by opening the lead to the front panel LED that indicates receive
activity. Place the diode of an opto isolator in series with the LED and
then use the transistor section of the opto isolator in your circuit as the
COS signal. You can use the transistor to pull up a resistor to a positive
voltage if you need a positive going COS ( with the other end grounded) or
you can pull a resistor to ground for a negative going COS (with the other
end connected to a plus voltage ).

I have no idea if your radios have this front panel activity LED, but most
do. The PTT and mic inputs are pretty straightforward, and the speaker
audio can be used in a pinch, if the knob is removed from the audio gain
control to discourage folks from 'tweaking'.

I've recently been tasked to link a couple of VHF repeaters with a UHF

SMU's, they are all programmed and ready to go.

I'm just having trouble finding any good docs on locations to tap for
Rcv/Tx audio and maybe COS in these radios.

On the plus side, I've bought an extra controller for myself and have
an extra mobile rig of the same model to experiment with before
tackling the repeaters... might as well make a mobile remote base for
my RV to play with while out fishing etc...

Can anyone recommend a good starting point or some docs? Even better I
 like pics :)

 MVS or MPA radios

A ham friend wants to try and use these radios and I have little or
 no GE Radio Software.

For MPA's it matters a bit which logic board they have, and which flash
is in them (although that can be changed easy.)

The best board is the 19D903081G(n) (called the '081 board), which can
be flashed to EDACS/conventional or conventional only, and can accept
the AEGIS digital board. This can be programmed with EDACS-4
(windows-based), EDACS-1, (DOS), or MPA CONV with the conventional only
flash.
Another is the '628 board, which is EDACS/conventional only, and does
not accept digital boards. This can only be programmed with EDACS-1 I
believe.
There is also an older board that is unflashable, and is conventional
only, but I don't remember the number right off. And it only programs
with MPA CONV.

This child of a brainstorm would be at my own QTH (way out in the sticks),
and even then I've been considering it more as a educational/learning tool
than anything else. What's the fun in doing anything if you don't learn
something from it?

One of those just to see if it can be done effectively and see if *I* can do
it, before moving on to bigger projects. And if all the smoke was to fall
out, I might be out a total of $50, but I'd know where NOT to stick the

I have a pretty firm grasp of the how's and why's just not entirely sure
where to start.
