I opened the unit and no signs of burning at all on any of the 4 PA boards or the driver. I did follow your thread about the unit and get the idea they're not that economical to repair if needed. I haven't fired it up yet but everything looks ok at least. Assuming it's working properly as is, I'm thinking about pulling 2 of the boards, didling the hybrid xfmrs a bit and keeping the unused boards as spares (they all have the wire in the collector connection to help with the heat expansion issue). I'm thinking 250 watts is perhaps 3 dB too many so running it @ 125 (and only needing one supply) would give me a spare there too. Anyway, I'll contact you offlist about the manual possibility. Resurrecting an old(er) thread. I just picked up a Glenayre Series 97 250w UHF amp (with switcher supplies) of Ebay. The price was too good to pass up. Of course, I'd love some manuals on the thing - Model 9T97A250 Ken At 07:36 AM 6/15/2009, Jeff DePolo wrote: The 97 series will work OK in the ham band. Glenayre revised the design later to put an L-shaped bend in the inductor feeding DC to the collector to try to get the resistance down to reduce the chance of collector burns/desoldering but it didn't seem to help much. Glenayre used to have flat-rate repair of $95 per PA strip (the driver and the PA boards are the same), but that went away a long time ago. Last time I tried to get a board repaired/replaced it was $380. The switching supplies that go with those PA's (two in parallel for a 250 watt PA) have been problematic for me. --- Jeff WN3A > -Original Message- > From: <mailto:Repeater-Builder%40yahoogroups.com>Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com > [mailto:repeater-buil...@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Chuck Kelsey > Sent: Sunday, June 14, 2009 7:34 PM > To: <mailto:Repeater-Builder%40yahoogroups.com>Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com > Subject: Re: [Repeater-Builder] Glenayre UHF PA > > > > OK, thanks. > > Anyone else out there know if the Glenayre 97-series UHF PA > will work in the > ham portion of the band? > > Chuck > WB2EDV > > - Original Message - > From: "Adam Feuer" <<mailto:feuera%40optonline.net>feu...@optonline.net > <mailto:feuera%40optonline.net> > > To: <<mailto:Repeater-Builder%40yahoogroups.com>Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com > <mailto:Repeater-Builder%40yahoogroups.com> > > Sent: Sunday, June 14, 2009 7:30 PM > Subject: Re: [Repeater-Builder] Glenayre UHF PA > > > Ok, I don't use that model myself. The 97 series will work OK in the ham band. The "twisted wire" hybrids are rated for 450-512 MHz, so the balance may be a little off, and the isolation degraded a bit. I have a few in service. Chuck, We are running a couple of the 97 series amps on UHF and one on VHF. The ones on UHF are at the freq's of 434.050, 442.250, Both of these are 250 W and we are running one on 443.750 125 W Thank You. John Installer/Tech Midstate Communications 1st Lieut, S.T.V.F.D. I'd bet it will tune down to at least 445 if it is a midsplit one to begin with. Worst case, you may have to move of the caps on the stripline a bit. I have Quintrons (QT-6700) and they work just fine - I've had them as low as 441 with no problem. Also, been running one rated at 90 watts pretty much 24/7 since 1984. Great stuff Ken At 04:30 PM 6/14/2009, Adam Feuer wrote: Ok, I don't use that model myself. I only have QT's in service. Chuck, Not being sure which model Glenayre PA you're referring to, I'm running several QT-7795 and QT-6775's on 442 thru 449 with no degradation. Do you have a "QT" series or the 97 series?
