2010-02-13 Thread i recycle computers
I do know about and have located lots of FRS, 11m, and MURS Radio Over IP
links on the internet, they are similar to echolink Link type base
stations.

there is one located in Lincoln Nebraska for 11 meters.

there are a bunch of PMR stations in the UK that have radio over ip
connections to the internet that are publicly accessible.

I am interested in why my design won't work. as stated in a few posts I
made, I am not really interested in building one. maybe 15 or so years ago I
might have, but no more.

I am simply interested in the technical aspects of such a project and
examples of ones that have been put service.

and I should hope that it is hams who build these CB repeaters. I would not
to see one that was built by some toothless piece of trailer trash so he can
splatter his alcohol driven filth up and down the band with some unfiltered
over driven linear.

no not much research was done on that specification I laid out.

Actually I did want to make a remote 11m base that uses the 900mhz ISM band
as the control link.

still do, regardless of legalities. everywhere I live seems to be a location
that is not very good for getting good radio range and since i am a renter,
100 foot tower is out of the question.

Probably some of the best advise given on this group.

 shield1...@... writes:

 US I assume.

Doesn't really matter if he's in the US. This type of topic
happens a lot more than you would expect and people try these
type of circuits/packages a lot more than you would assume.
The problem is it's hard to talk about an 11 Meter Repeater
because it would not normally be a legal to operate system
(at least in the US). I get the impression the original post
was intended to ferret out the basic technical requirements
and stories about... if anyone has ever done, made or used one.

Sure, lot's of CB'ers and Hams have made and used CB and
Ham Radio Repeaters and Remote Base Systems. But then Robert
appears to drive the topic into subject areas that tend to make
a lot of the regular Repeater-Builder Group People crazy. And
the technical side of the original conversation starts to get
blurred and disjointed with off topic sidebars.

 Moving along...

but for a multiple receive site setup using a voter as
others have pointed out won't work very well with RF links.

 Which is not true...

Why not use a uhf link ?, cheaper than a phone line
and probably more reliable. 27Mhz, is in the cb band,
 isn't it

If so many sidebars were not going on with this gray area
topic... a normal reply from the group regarding phone line
links might be like... they are expensive to use/have unless
the physical wire is owned by the person needing the connection,
which means it would probably be a short telco line, a private
wire, someone works for or has access to a telco business and
has something special going on behind the scenes.

Or, someone really has a lot of money to waste...

Radio links regardless of the band in use are quite doable but
you can expect they will be found and in the case of an illegal
 CB Repeater quickly messed with.

here is my thought on how to implement this...

You really should stop thinking so hard about the CB Repeater...
it's getting old and thin here on the group.

TX site: Feq: 27.315 TPO: 4 Watts Mode: AM
Antenna: Custom Dual 4 Bay Folded Dipole
  Filter: Bp: 27.315 Br: 27.965
  Coax: Andrew 1 Inch Hardline
  Controller: Rack Mount Custom Controller,
and Receive Voter Transmitter: Custom Built Crystal
  Controlled 4 Watt AM Transmitter

Just the above list tells many of the Group Regulars you're
off in Technical La, La Dream Land. There's almost something
worth shooting technical and real world holes into/through in
every line of the above list.

 Onward... through the mud...

  Rx Site:
  Freq: 27.965
  Mode: AM
Antenna: Custom Dual 2 Bay Folded Dipole
  Filter: Bp: 27.965 Br: 27.315

Receiver: Custom Built Crystal Controlled AM Receiver
  Coax: Andrew 1 inch hardline

Tx/Rx Site Seperation: 1 Mile Minimum
  Tx/Rx site Linking: Telco Wireline

Yes I put a lot of thought into it :)

But not much honest homework or research... nor do you use
a spell checker when making Group Posts.

I come up with all these wacky idea's, but never get
  around to implementing them.

Your ideas are all old rehash subjects having been done hundreds
if not thousands of times through the decades. The fly in your

That's all I've got on that.

An AM repeater concept is nifty regardless of band.

A cb repeater other than a store/forward repeater leaves most of the cb'ers
out of it so why build it?
If exclusivity is the goal, there are plenty of places an amateur ticket can
take you.

Here in the Ozarks, 11m is all over. Those that wanted to slug it out are
still there or pirating around 75m.
Those that wanted a cleaner or more private environment, attended a
licensing class. Some after trying frs handhelds from walmart.

Frs and murs are not CB, otherwords, license free != CB.
Gmrs is a licensed band.

Yada yada yada.

My favorite bands to build/operate/talk about repeaters are on 10m and 6m
with a bit of 70cm in there.
1.25 is very nice but unfortunately for me, not much play time there.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: 11m Repeater

2010-02-12 Thread i recycle computers
this is just an excersize on paper as to how it would be implemented in the
CB band.

it is not for actually building. It is just to pass along to CB'ers who ask
me how one would go about building a CB repeater. i would say 99.9% would
see the complexities and not bother.

but at least now i can explain how it would work the next time such a
question arrises.

I don't have the cash the resources or the real estate to implement such a
setup.

I am in the US and well aware of the legallities as well as the reallity
that the FCC has all but given up on CB.

but to the original question. yes Tx on 31 Rx on 1.

back in Jersey 31 was the local get together channel so i used it in my
example.

here is my thought on how to implement this...

 TX site:
 Feq: 27.315
 TPO: 4 Watts
 Mode: AM
Antenna: Custom Dual 4 Bay Folded Dipole
 Filter: Bp: 27.315 Br: 27.965
 Coax: Andrew 1 Inch Hardline
Controller: Rack Mount Custom Controller, and Receive Voter
Transmitter: Cutom Built Crystal Controlled 4 Watt AM Transmitter

 Rx Site:
 Freq: 27.965
 Mode: AM
Antenna: Custom Dual 2 Bay Folded Dipole
 Filter: Bp: 27.965 Br: 27.315
PreAmp: Custom Built Single Freq. Tower Mounted Pre Amp.
Receiver: Custom Built Crystal Controlled AM Receiver
 Coax: Andrew 1 inch hardline

Tx/Rx Site Seperation: 1 Mile Minimum
 Tx/Rx site Linking: Telco Wireline

Yes I put a lot of thought into it :)

I come up with all these wacky idea's, but never get around to
 implementing
 them.

 Thanks,
