If you had approvals that were working in 3.6.7, they should have
continued to work in 3.8.2. What we replaced were the scrips that caused
approval actions to happen. We moved the code somewhere it's easier to
test and maintain and fixed bugs, but didn't fundamentally change how
existing user code should work.

Yes. There were a bunch of issues in the approvals system that crept in
between 3.4.0 and 3.8.1. As part of the overhaul, we've added tests to
make sure they don't break again.

>
> 2) Has anyone done an upgrade from an earlier RT to 3.8.2 and managed to get

Yes.

Let's start from the top. I _think_ that keeping this debugging session
on rt-users will be helpful to other (and future) readers.

Approvals are based around RT's "Create Tickets" action. The idea is
that you should create new tickets of Type approval in queue
___Approvals?

RT before 3.8.2 used scrips in the ___Approvals queue. RT 3.8.2 and
forward build in the same code at a deeper level.

Can you explain what you've done to date, including your "Create
Tickets" templates?

Best,
Jesse

[rt-users] RT Time fields in days?

To all,

Is there a way in 3.8.2 to enter and store the data in the "Time"
fields in days? If not, has anyone made their own modifications to do
so? I need this one badly. It's a major requirement for my users. Thanks

No, just the search link itself in the sidebar.

Yes, I could put the search results in my home page, but unlike most
everyone else I often work in different queues so I'd rather have
something like this in my sidebar:

   Assigned to me all queues
High Priorityany queue, priority above N
Open Support support queue, by priority
Open Abuse abuse queue, by reverse time created
   Open Securitysecurity queue, by priority

It's not currently. I'm sorry about that. It's still very much in the

I do have it on my homepage. But having to click Home and then click
the search is two steps for "the most common thing I do". If the
search was available in the sidebar, I could reduce it to just 1 click.

Re: [rt-users] Optimize system specifically for RT

2009-01-30 Thread Rob Munsch
While by no means an expert, i noticed some stuff:

> enabled, 4x256MB

> Performance Metrics -
> [!!] Maximum possible memory usage: 1.2G (120% of installed RAM)

You have a gig of ram on the box, and the !! here is telling you your
current vars allow MySQL to grab 1.2 GB. Unless / until you increase
the box's ram, you need to lower the various buffers significantly, as
there's still system/OS mem to consider.

>Reduce your overall MySQL memory footprint for system stability

That's what it's sayin' here.

>When making adjustments, make tmp_table_size/max_heap_table_size equal

This just means what it says: if you tweak one to X, make sure the
other is also exactly X.

> *** MySQL's maximum memory usage is dangerously high ***
> *** Add RAM before increasing MySQL buffer variables ***

Again talking about your lack of RAM, and saying "Don't do what we
recommend below until you add some!"

>tmp_table_size (> 32M)
>max_heap_table_size (> 16M)

In this section, it means "adjust these variables HIGHER," greater
than their current values, which are 32 and 16M respectively.
However, as per previous 2 warnings: 1) you can't adjust anything
higher right now, until you lower the other buffer values, since
you're asking for more total RAM than you physically have; and 2) when
you adjust these, make sure they're the same size. So, assuming you
had more RAM, you'd want to kick tmp_table_size up above 32M; and when
you do, make sure max_heap_table_size is adjusted to the same number.

> Checking MySQL for
>mysql> show variables like 'tmp_table_size';
>| tmp_table_size | 33554432 |

The recommendations show you this: they say "make it greater than ."

> I can't add RAM the box is full. I figure 4x256MB of slow RAM is better than
> 2x256MB of DDR400 (1GB slow is better than 512MB of faster RAM.)

if you have 4 slots, and they have quarter-gig sticks in them, why
wouldn't you be able to chuck them and get new sticks? Even if you
just replaced them with half-gig sticks - dirt cheap - you'd double
your RAM.

better yet, get gig sticks.

It's saying to make them both greater than 32M. The recommendation
for the larger is "make it greater than the current value of 32M," and
"keep them both the same," with the caveat "but not until you do
something about your total RAM usage."

This is your only current option to reduce usage right now, and i
don't know how much room you have not knowing your DB's habits. Try
gently lowering these if more physical RAM is impossible for whatever
reason, and restarting MySQL.

Same 'ere.

> I'm not sure if perceived "slowness" is due to webserver or MySQL or

It's possible that MySQL is getting into fistfights with your system
for RAM right now, due to all of the above.

Hope this all helps in some way.

So digging into the port it seems you need to enable graphviz support
with a configure option, but the current port doesn't invoke that
option. So the inclusion of all the dependancies was an immense
waste :-(

I've submitted a patch that upgrades the port to rt-3.8.2, and allows
a config knob to enable or disable graphviz support for parity with
configure.

Too new at Perl to realize the last one gets honored. Thought you
needed a separate Set() for each one.

Re: [rt-users] Using the approvals system in 3.8.2

2009-01-30 Thread Kenneth Crocker
Cassandra,

We found that by merely creating a new queue to act as the initial
request queue (where tickets are reviewed before approving them and
moving them to a queue where they are owned and worked on) was a lot
simpler. The privileges and Email are WAY more consistent. We wrote a
few scrips to automate a few status and CF changes and we now have a
working approval queue with privileges and CF's that are consistent with
the other queues. WE set up privileges to keep requestor type users from
creating tickets in the other queues. Just a thought.

[rt-users] Module not loading (ExternalAuth)

2009-01-30 Thread Rob Munsch
Hello list,

After upgrading to 3.8.2 and RT::Authen::ExternalAuth 0.08, it seems
the module doesn't load. Debug level logging shows autohandler
processing logins, not the plugin. When logged into RT as the root
user and checking the Sys Config, i see:

Regexp::Common::delimited v2.106;
RT v3.8.2;
RT::Extension::ExtractCustomFieldValues v2.0;
RT::Interface::Email v2;
RT::Interface::Web::Request v0.30;
Scalar::Util v1.19;

In there is where i'd expect to see ExternalAuth.

My entire rt3/ dir is chown'd to my apache user, and readable to it.
The first line in my SiteConfig.pm is

Set( @Plugins, qw(RT::Authen::ExternalAuth) );

and the rest of the config seems to be honored (the next line is the
Set for ECFV, frex, and that's working well).

Not sure where to being poking this for answers.

Thanks,
Rob

I think it may be easiest to kill everyone's session and force a login
on their next refresh in the rare instance you need to do this, rather
than take a performance hit during common usage.

[rt-users] RT (request racker) mail sending configuration

2009-01-30 Thread Bruno Guimarães Sousa
Hi,
My RT instalation is working fine and retrieving emails through fetchmail.
But the last thing I need to configure is the mail sending. I have exim4
installed and it is not working to send emails when a ticket gets a answer
or a comment.
How can I configure that so that every message sended goes to another
server?

Re: [rt-users] Querying tickets based on current user custom field

2009-01-30 Thread nseigne

Hello again,

Been stuck on this since : I guess the search builder page won't make it up
to that...
Can anyone give me a hint on how to do this ?

I've looked Search/Generic.pm after working on Custom Conditions and Actions
but there is much less (any?) documentation on this : how to extend it and
then use it.

Any help appreciated.
Nicolas.

Would it be possible to share the work, see if we could tune it to match
our needs?

> It's a core feature in the upcoming RT
> 4.0. (Not that that helps you very much yet)

Yeah, we can't really wait for RT4, I guess. But it sure would be nicer
if it don't do too much incompatible stuff. If the workflow we design
now can be cleanly integrated in RT4 it will be very nice. But I'm not
really confident about that, if the core has changed a lot. (it may be
worth installing an RT4 devel just to see how it looks, too)

I think we'll try to follow the callback road, maybe adding few ones a
tuning the code so we can prevent tickets modifications early, but
keeping the modification the lowest possible.

Cheers,
