[RollTideFan] NCAA's Stupidty continues...

2005-08-12 Thread Charles

Im
searching for a news story on this. I heard it on my local morning news, but havent
found anything I can forward yet. But the story goes like this. U Georgia is
playing Boise State in the opener. One of the kids
from Boise has a father in Iraq. GA fans
found out about it and paid for the man to come home to see his kid play, but the
NCAA ruled that makes the GA fans Boise
boosters and the gift is disallowed. So the guy cant come home.

This is just
ridiculous. I heard an NCAA fan say on fox news yesterday that
if member schools dont agree with NCAA rulings they are free to pull
out. Well, maybe thats just what needs to be done.

Dogs fans show heart, but . . .
 NCAA won't let them pay for dad's trip to game

 By CHIP TOWERS
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
 Published on: 08/11/05
ATHENS — A group of Georgia football fans took up a collection to pay
for a Boise State player's father to fly from Baghdad to see his son
play against the Bulldogs in Athens.

But the NCAA rule book got in the way.

Dan Miller, father of Broncos sophomore guard Tad Miller, is a retired
police lieutenant who is training Iraqi police officers.

When Sam Hendrix of Signal Mountain, Tenn. — suthndawg to his fellow
Georgia fans on the Dawgvent, an Internet message board — read a story
in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the Millers, he started an
online movement to raise the $2,700 it will cost Dad to make it to
Sanford Stadium to see his son play in the home opener Sept. 3.

Within moments of suthndawg's post, there were 25 to 50 people who
offered to pledge money, said Ryan Crowe, a 25-year-old legal
assistant from Atlanta who offered to collect and distribute the funds.
It just took off from there.

But when Crowe checked with the two schools, he was told the UGA fans'
generosity would be a violation of NCAA bylaws regarding extra benefits
and expenses for student athletes and their families.

Ironically, by providing this money, these [Georgia] fans would in
effect become Boise State boosters, said Amy Chisholm, UGA's assistant
athletics director for compliance. The NCAA defines a booster as a
representative of an institution's athletics interests.

NCAA spokeswoman Gail Dent did not have an immediate response to
questions about the situation Wednesday.

Makes no sense to me, said Hendrix, a 56-year-old marketing
consultant. It just hits me that twice in a week, these people have
lost touch with reality.

The NCAA caused a furor when it ruled last week that member schools'
Native American mascots would no longer be allowed at championship
events.

Word of the Georgia fans' good intentions — and their being thwarted —
spread quickly via the Internet.

It was such a nice and giving gesture, I almost felt embarrassed,
said Kathy Miller, Tad's mother, who lives in Boise, Idaho. We
appreciate it so much. But we want people to know that the company Dan
contracts for pays for his RR every six months, and this will be his
first time home since January. So his travel is taken care of.

Perhaps they can collect money to send some underprivileged kids to
the game or something, she added.

Kathy Miller said the family received other overtures from Georgia
fans. One offered to host a party for the family when it arrives in
Athens. Miller said she is running everything by Boise State's
compliance office.

Said Crowe: Us Georgia fans love our football but, as a collective
group, we're pretty hospitable people.

[RollTideFan] Are you a Democrat, Republican or Southern Republican

2005-08-12 Thread Mike Laborde
Forwarded from another list:

 Are you a Democrat, Republican or Southern Republican

 Here is a little test that will help you decide.

 Question: How do you tell the difference between Democrats,
 Republicans And Southern Republicans?

 The answer can be found by posing the following question:

 You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small

 children. Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes

 around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises

 Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you. You are carrying a
 Glock

 cal .40, and you are an expert shot?

 You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.

 What do you do?

 ~~~
 Democrat's Answer:
 Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
 Does the man look poor! Or oppressed?
 Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
 Could we run away?
 What does my wife think?
 What about the kids?
 Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out
 of  his hand?
 What does the law say about this situation?
 Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it?
 Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message
 does this send to society and to my children?
 Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?
 Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to
 wound me?
 If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away
 while he was stabbing me?
 Should I call 9-1-1?
 Why is this street so deserted?
 We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this
 happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
 This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends
 for few days and try to come to a consensus.
It's absolutely ludicrous.  It seems that any last vestiges of common sense
have been eradicated from the NCAA.  I think it's time for some major
A guy walks into the local welfare office, marches straight up to the
counter and says, Hi...  You know, I just HATE drawing welfare. I'd
really rather have a job.
The social worker behind the counter says, Your timing is excellent. We
just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a
chauffeur/bodyguard for his nymphomaniac daughter. You'll have to drive
around in his Mercedes, but he'll supply all of your clothes.  Because
of the long hours, meals will be provided. You'll be expected to escort
her on her overseas holiday trips.  You will have to satisfy her sexual
urges. You'll have a two-bedroom apartment above the garage. The
starting salary is $200,000 a year.
The guy says, You're bullshittin' me!
The social worker says, Yeah, well, you  started  it.
Re: [RollTideFan] Tickets
2005-08-12 Thread atticusjd
Alabama football ticket shipments delayed
For Alabama football fans, the anxious wait for their season
football tickets to arrive has just become a few days longer.  Word came late
Thursday that all University of Alabama season tickets, originally to be
shipped on Friday, August 12, would be delayed a few days.
“Late Thursday afternoon, we were informed by our ticket printing
company in Arkansas that our season ticket shipments were being delayed,” said
Rhoda Vaughn, athletic ticket manager.  “For weeks, we’ve been telling our
customers that August 12th would be the ship date, and until Thursday
afternoon, we had no reason to doubt that.  Needless to say, we were very
disappointed with the news.”
Vaughn added that similar calls from the Arkansas ticket printing
company were made to several ticket offices across the country, including at
least five schools from the Southeastern Conference.  “It’s certainly no
consolation, but several schools were given the same news regarding their
season tickets,” Vaughn said.  “Obviously, we’ll be following up with our
ticket printing company to identify and address these issues.”
United Parcel Service (UPS), which is contracted by the Athletic
Ticket Office to ship the season tickets, is also contracted to ship road game
tickets.  “Unlike our season tickets, which are shipped from our ticket
printing company in Arkansas, our road game tickets are shipped from our
offices here on campus, and they’re all ready to go,” Vaughn said.
“However, so that the receipt of season tickets and road game tickets can be
simultaneous, we will hold the road game ticket shipments for a few days until
we’re informed of a new ship date of the season tickets.  Once we get a firm
ship date, we’ll then release the road game ticket shipment so they can enter
the UPS system at the same time and hopefully be delivered to our customers at
the same time.”
Likewise, UPS is contracted to ship most of the TIDE PRIDE
amenities packages, while some are mailed through the United States Postal
Service.  “The amenities packages that are scheduled to be shipped by UPS are
ready to go,” said Tommy Ford, director of TIDE PRIDE, “but we’re holding
them until we hear word on the season ticket shipment.  It has always been our
preference, as well as UPS’s, for the amenities and the tickets to go out and
be delivered at the same time.  We’ll also delay any amenities packages that
are scheduled to be mailed through the Post Office.”
Anyone who ordered Alabama single game tickets will be receiving
them earlier via the United States Postal Service.  “Our single game tickets
had already been taken to the Post Office and were already in the mail
system,” Vaughn said.  “The mailing of those could not be delayed, so
they’ll be delivered earlier than the other items.”
Vaughn said that the Ticket Office hopes to hear by Monday when the season
tickets will be shipped.  “Despite the delay, season tickets will arrive to
our customers in plenty of time for our home opener on September 3rd.”
When your tickets are shipped, you will receive an email shipping notification.
This notification will include your tracking number link which will allow you
to easily track your package.
