Re: SAM Revival issue 25 now out! (And other recent releases!)
Hi Colin, thank you for new issue, haven't read much of it yet (have it in my hands just for about 2 hours so far), but it is worth the waiting! Keep on good work, you have a lot of readers! Yup, Forever is 8bit demoparty including Sam Coupe. It is happening every year (this is 15th year in a row), we have a technicaly great demo for Sam Coupe this year in the competiton. Campion the Spreadsheet
Hi all, I am playing with Campion Spreadsheet and having one problem - doing any disk operation cause reset of the computer. I read manual few times to see if MasterDos is needed or something, but nothing about it is written there. When I saved a table to the disk, file was saved, but then computer reset. Load is reseting computer imediately. Do I have some broken copy or am I missing something? New demo for Sam Coupe
Hi all, just a short note, there was another year of Forever party this weekend and for the first time we had a real Sam Coupe contribution, which even won the "Other 8bit demo" category. The name is "Short Oldskool Demo" and was done by Sir David. It can be downloaded at http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=61145 Enjoy! e. -- ellvis/ZeroTeam ell...@zeroteam.sk http://zeroteam.sk ZX Spectrum support since 1996

Atom CF card under Linux
Hi all! Being currently ill, I spent day and a half by playing with my Sam. Changed disk drive, cleaned up the case and so on. And finally wanted to sort out the mess on my CF card. I found that I am not able to write the images to the card under linux. What I found on internet is, that formatted CF card is starting by boot sector (just one sector) and then there is records list. Each record list entry is the 16-byte text label, so there are 32 entries per sector. For me (using 64MB CF card) this take 3 sectors. Next are just disk images, one after another. So, my guess was like this: dd if=some_image.dsk of=/dev/sdb seek=4 conv=swab bs=512 (this is by default, just to be sure) I did tests with B-DOS 1.7q which I am using on my other card (that one was filled up by copying real diskettes in Sam). Results were that I got only half of the directory visible and after any file load I've got 108 End of file and the data were just mess. If I try to write second image (seek=1604), I get 81 Invalid record. Even if the virtual image was created previously with the format utility on Bdos disk. I am stuck now, is there a way how to write disk images to the CF card directly from linux or I have to use the diskettes? keyboard membrane replacement
Hi all, I just wanted to ask if anyone have bought new membrane for Sam from Rwap. If yes, what is your experience? I bought two of them. But none is working properly. I have to press keys hard and few times to get them work. Keys "F" and "J" doesn't work at all. I took care there are not any "waves" as the holes for plastic pins are tight, I tried to assemble it few times - always did it very carefully. But the results are still the same. I will try ore or two times more, but right now I am pretty dissapointed by it's quality. e. -- ellvis/ZeroTeam ell...@zeroteam.sk http://zeroteam.sk ZX Spectrum support since 1996

Hi Andrew, I never seen any manual, except Czech translation of original in some old Czech disk magazine, I spent lot of time by finding out the things by myself. The effects are as this: 0 and 7 do nothing 8 and 9 no idea 1 is frequency modulation 2 is hardware envelope 3 is speed 4 is volume 5 is noise modulation 6 is mute Greets, ellvis On Sat, 12 Mar 2011 00:07:13 - "Andrew Gillen" wrote: > > Hi Ellvis, > > Thanks for that explanation. Re: Introduction and E-Tracker Query
Hi Andrew, I ment incorrect use of speed command in pattern. Let's say we have this line in pattern editor: 000 C-5 5035 000 mean position in pattern, C-5 is tone and octave, 5035 is sample, ornament, effect and value. Effect number 3 is speed. Sometimes if you change speed of part of the song by a command and then change it back, the compiler mess it up in final compiled song. So, if you have a song source, just go through it and check for use of command 3. Of course, this is my shot, the problem can be completely different! Hope this help! ellvis On Fri, 11 Mar 2011 20:14:53 - "Andrew Gillen" wrote: > Hi Ellvis, > > You may be on to something with the speed command, but I'm not sure > what you're precisely referring to! Re: Introduction and E-Tracker Query
Hi Andrew, a very fast thinking from me: check the song source in the tracker for speed command. Sometimes it go compiled wrong or differently then it should and song play strange after compilation. This is happening not only on E-Tracker but also on SQ-Tracker on the Spectrum. Hope this is of any help. ellvis On Fri, 4 Mar 2011 19:04:47 - "Andrew Gillen" wrote: > Hi all, > > I just subbed today but have been periodically delving into the > archives of this mailing list for the past six months or so when > looking for tips and ticks for programming my SAM. Hi, I am not really a coder, but you can always try to look at http://baze.au.com/misc/z80bits.html It's a collection of z80 math routines, all commented, it's done by Baze/3SC - Spectrum demo coder. Just for an inspiration. Anyway, it's really great to read such a stuff here on the list, pretty inspirative! ellvis Chris Pile wrote: Re: code, I really don't think that cycle pinching is the main problem — I think it's algorithmic. Re: Wanna some FREE games?
Hi Wolfgang and the rest of the list! I'll check the games in next few days, maybe I'll start a sort of reviews then. Anyway, nice pages! This weekend happened FOReVER7 8bit demoparty. Besides usuall scenes (atari, c64 and Spectrum), there were 2 new ones - Amstrad CPC and Sam Coupe. I made a short presentation of Sam Coupe on Saturday's afternoon. Just a few words about it's hardware and then showed few games and demos on the bigscreen. People were pretty curious about it, I got lot of questions about the Sam Coupe and also it's software scene this days. Even as I received no entries for the competitions (well, i thought it will end as it ended), I'll do a place for the Sam Coupe next year again. Some photos can be found on http://hvge.sk/foto/forever7/thumb.html Right now I am starting to work on a FileManager for the Sam Coupe with BDOS (as there is not any at all), I'll probably bother you with some questions about handling the files and sectors from machine code. But all later, no more talks about this for now as I won't look like one who just babla and do nothing. :) have a nice time! ellvis/ZeroTeam e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] web: http://zeroteam.sk - Původní zpráva - Předmět: Wanna some FREE games? long and boring one
Hi all! After some time I found a minute (or two) to write something to here. Some things changed and I'd like to move on the things around my Sam. But at first... BIG compliments (and also THANK YOU) for the http://worldofsam.org page! It's the second one I am checking at work (right after http://www.raww.org, ZX news site:) and for me (as one with no past on Sam) it's a great source of informations! I can't provide much of support for the content (yet!:), but I am at least voting and as I see, Sam was not really a "desert" from the beginning as it was told to me by lot of people. I moved to a new flat. It's lot of things to do there (it was not used for over a year), but already have TV and my Coupe there. I already started to play with E-Tracker, just last thing to go is to know, how to change the speed. Right, I have no manual, I found nothing around the ftp.nvg.unit.no. But for now is really enough if anyone can provide me an info how to change speed of playing the song. About the music at all. I was really impressed by the sound of the title music in the Fred69. A bit of Pokey (Atari sound chip) and a lot of SID! Most of the musics are just like the AY on the Spectrum, but it's obvious that the Sam have a big sound possibilities (very good music is also title one in Fred 67 and some musics on FRED 64). I wisited a JHCon - small ZX meeting last December. I've met Velesoft there and he showed me his mouse interface for the SamCoupe. I am going to get one by myself, it work with any PS/2 mouse (he used optical one:), it's 100% compatible with the original Sam mouse, it's just a bit more sensitive, so you don't need 1x1m of desk space. As the Flash! version I have is only for mouse, I really need it anyway:). Anyway, he have a homepage at http://www.velesoft.wz.cz/, just hope that he will make english version soon. FOReVER7 party is comming. This year we decided to open also competition for SamCoupe, even as I am nearly sure, that there will be no entries (I am working on my music anyway:). I was unable to post anything earlier as all my emails were cut down after about 3 lines of text. Now I hope it will work. Anyway, the homepage with rules are at http://forever.zeroteam.sk. Now I'd like to ask you for a small help. I'd like to do also a small presentation of Sam Coupe on the party itself. Just a short speach about the computer and show also some games/demos/programs on the big screen. Now as a one who still don't know all the good stuff for Coupe I'd like to ask you for your ideas what should be shown, some tips about good software. Exactly by this way started Spectrum/C64/Atari on first FOReVER party, CPC last year, now it's time for the Sam Coupe. That's all for now from me. I hope to save much more of time from now, I dream about new software for the Sam Coupe!:) Have you a nice time! ellvis/ZeroTeam web: http://zeroteam.sk e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

SamCoupe competitions at FOReVER7 demoparty
Hi people! So, being busy last months, the things moved up a bit and we're deep in organising another FOReVER 8bit demoparty. It will happen 17.3. - 19.3. 2006 in Trencin/Slovakia, all the info will be soon at http://forever.zeroteam.sk
last try (questions)
So, BIG sorry again, something is wrong and my messages are always cutted down. I wanted to ask you few things, this is last try: Is there any filemanagement software for Sam in the style of Norton Commander? I mean the dual panel view. It speed up the work. I am setting up the rules for the SamCoupe competitions for next FOReVER party, it will happen 17.3. - 19.3. 2006. Sam section will be opened only if we will get enough of works, I'll make Sam presentation anyway. Please, if you have any comments or ideas (or you even feel like you can organise it by yourself:), let me know! I am thinking about setting up new demogroup for Sam Coupe, or to join existing one (is there any?) as musician, later maybe also some gfx and lame code. Is anyone interested in this? That's for now, once again sorry for being annoying by re-sending the emails! ellvis/ZeroTeam [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://ellvis.vectorstar.net/samcoupe/

So, after some busy days I finally started my own pages about SamCoupe at http://ellvis.vectorstar.net/samcoupe/. There is really nothing much now, but I'll try to update it as often as possible. Now for some questions: I tried to download Fred magazines, but it's not possible. Were the distribution permisions denied or is it just problem of ftp? It look like there is quite a lot of software on the Fred disks and there's not any mirror of it

Some days ago I was geting "505 Not a directory" message, the same is with ftp://ftp.nvg.ntnu.no/pub/sam-coupe/disks/games/Commercial/. Only WopGamma is working. Anyway, I am not really sure if my email passed complette to the list, because i received only a half-copy of it. I'll re-send it later today or tommorow. See you after 60 issues of Fred:) Thanks, ellvis

documentation
Hi again! I just booted the Sam, thanks Stuart, I made it with 'dd' (except that I had to create a /dev/fd0u800 first). From now I am counting myself as SamCoupe user, not just owner. :) So, for the documentation. I fully agree with Wiki, because setting up the good documentation in one person is pretty hard. There is few good sites (scrapbook and stuff by WoMo Team), but having a Wiki will speed up the searching and will grow up much faster because more people will participe (yes, I am optimistic). I am even abble to help with Wiki, but I have no place to set it up (I am using only free webhosting, our Speccy pages are also hosten on free web hosting). Anyway, I am writing down the notes (right now "how to make a boot disk under linux") and will put them on internet, when the Wiki will appear, I'll move it to there. So, thank you all for replies, now I'll close myself into the room with Sam for few days (I am having 1 week of holidays now) and will partly flood you around. Anyway, I am downloading e-tracker and will play with the sound. Thomas: I've got the Sam just yesterday. I am ZX Spectrum user, but long time interested in Sam Coupe. Have a nice time! ellvis/ZeroTeam [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://zeroteam.sk
new Sam Coupe user
Hi people! Yesterday I've got a Sam Coupe computer. I am not "collector", I am going to use it and I'd like to ask you for a "newbie" help. I have Sam Coupe 512K with Atom HDD interface. Unfortunatelly, the HDD itself is not working anymore and I have no booting disk. I was looking over internet and downloaded the B-Dos disk, but the problem is, that I don't have Windows on computer to use and I found nothing that is working under Linux and can be used for Sam's disk images. So, please, can anyone support me by usefull links or some tips how to use Sam images under linux? Also, I have a question about the Sam Community. Lot of internet pages is out of date, Sam's webring contain very few of pages. I am thinking about running my own pages, but need to start somewhere (booting the Sam can be good as first step:), but I'd like to know if there are still people interested in this computer. Also, I'd like to make a Sam Coupe presentation on the FOReVER 8 bit demoscene party (http://forever.zeroteam.sk) next year, If anyone will be interested, we can also open regular competitions for Sam Coupe there. I hope it's not too late and that I am not the last person out there interested in Sam! All your help is highly apreciated, have a nice time! ellvis/ZeroTeam [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://zeroteam.sk
