Re: SAM Coupé - software request!
Hi Ron, Many thanks for that - Wolfgang sent a link to your software - thanks Wolfgang! Your game Quix is a very different beast to the arcade game Qix - in fact, only the name is similar! Apparently the arcade version is pronounced kicks - but I always pronounce it quicks ;-) Your game is quite a challenge to play - in some ways it feels like a beefed-up Tetris! It's pretty amazing to see what you can do in standard Sam BASIC. The SAM really was too much too late... Sad really, as it really was a lovely machine to write code for... :-( Cheers, Chris.

Hi Chris. It was me a pleasure. BTW: Thank you for the latest DEFENDER version, done by you. It´s the only SAM game, which my son (13) is interested in! And he is good, so I saw more levels (Waves completed) then I had ever seen when played by myself ;-) Cheers, Wolfgang
Re: SAM Coupé - software request!
Hi Chris, yeah, the SAM was released just a wee bit too late, which was a real shame. It was a great machine for its time, and a lot of love went into making it. I certainly put a lot of love into the software I produced, and I think I got some really good results from the BASIC that SAM had, especially my Gridlock game which is on Enceladus 10. I'm still trying to get a hold of my Review diskzines. I have only managed to obtain issue #2 so far, and I put out five issues, so here's hoping! When you do please feel free to upload them to WoSam: http://www.worldofsam.org/node/589 Also, pimp your personal entry: http://www.worldofsam.org/node/588 Also also, a statement from yourself (either as an appendix or an email to the list) confirming the status i.e. freely downloadable or not would be good as we need that to make them downloadable from WoSam. Hi Dan, thanks for that. I should mention that I have tried - twice - to join the World of SAM website, with two different e-mail addresses, but to no avail! Can you help out? Well I just tried to register, and it says it'll e-mail my password to me, but it never did. I tried twice, with different e-mail addresses. Re: SAM Coupé - software request!
Hi Ron, Sorry I can't help you in your search, but I'd be interested in seeing your Quix remakes - but can't find them on NVG. I started writing a version of QIX back around 1998 - the plan was to make it as arcade perfect as I could. Sadly, the combination of me being a lazy git - and having one or two other projects on the go, meant I never got around to finishing it! Come to think of it - I never finished any of the other projects either! I'm pretty sure I don't even have the sourcecode any more. :-( Knowing now that there was a version of QIX for the SAM I'd love to see what my competition would have been!! ;-) Cheers, Chris. - Original Message - From: Ron Stirling [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: sam-users@nvg.ntnu.no Sent: Saturday, November 17, 2007 6:08 AM Subject: SAM Coupé - software request! Hi friends, my name is Ron Stirling, I used to program software and games for the SAM Coupé in the early nineties. My better known work was the SAM MegaDisk; which contained five games; Quix, Quix II, Manic Mazes, Math! and Le Box. I also created 5 issues of my fan magazine, Review, under the title of Vertex Software. I recently discovered the SimCoupé emulator program, and also the NVG ftp website, where I have located some of my work. It has been an absolute joy to play games that I wrote over fifteen years ago (and I haven't seen them since!), and I now wish to track down all my other work. I am still looking for all five issues of Review magazine, plus any games, graphics, programs or images that I may have created for other companies (like the Gold SAM Coupé logo for SamPaint). If you, or anyone you know, might be able to help me out, please do get back to me! Many thanks for your help! Re: SAM Coupé - software request!
Hi Chris, thanks for the reply. I can't exactly remember if my Quix and Quix II games were actually based on another game called Qix, it was 16 years ago when I wrote them after all! I believe Wolfgang Haller has already sent you a copy of my MegaDisk compilation, which has both Quix games, also; Math!, Manic Mazes and Le Box. My Review magazine disks also had games on them, but I have only managed to track down issue #2 (of 5), so if you'd like that too (in case Wolfgang hasn't already sent you it), just let me know. Re: SAM Coupé - software request!
Cheers Chris and all other SAM users. Le Box, Manic Mazes, Math, Quix and Quix 2 by Ron Stirling can be downloaded at: http://spc.gmc-clan.de/downloads2/SAM_Coupe/sam_coupe.html as Ron gave me the permission to contribute. Also you find here Review 2 and I am sorry, that I had only this issue. So if anyone has other issues of Rons Review mag, Ron and I would be glad to get them and make them publish for all. Have fun. Re: SAM Coupé - software request!
Hi Andrew, thanks for getting back to me. A chap called Wolfgang sent me issue 2 of Review, so 1 down and four to go! It's really brilliant seeing my old work on the SAM again, a wonderful blast from the past. I did quite a lot of artwork for other people too (including the SAMPaint logo, which I now have, thanks!). I usually plonked my trademark RS somewhere on the image, so if you spot any, please do send them on. Actually, I'd love ANY SAM software, come to think of it, as I loved my SAM very much!
