Re: [sdre-l]: It isn't that bad!!!

1999-11-29 Thread SkaBoy1022

ok... i got incircles plus a whole bunch more tabs at www.emo.itgo.com, it is
in d tuning though, sorry...

If anyone was at that show, (Unitarian Church, 22nd + Chestnut, Phila.,PA)
could you tell me who the band was who played before The Get Up Kids? (With
the big hair?) They were awesome.
when was the show? they've been touring with at the drive-ins and ultimate
fake book... i like at the drive-ins myself more than the new guks stuff...
they got a show sunday in amherst, mass that i'm going to...

and more on the screaming... usually singers early stuff has screaming in it.
but lets use anohter band i don't know if anyone knows of: one king down...
the singer quit a few years ago for basically being ignored by the rest of
the band... but he said
"i am capable of doing that, AND so much more with my voice, now. two years
of shows and learning will do that to you. so, my vocals have gotten a lot
stronger and louder, as well as crazier, and more high pitched, since i last
recorded. this is a progression that pleased me tremendously, as i was never
truly happy with the
vocals on bloodlust [revenge, their last CD], and i felt myself capable of
doing so much more."
singers in general don't scream as they learn to use their voice, screaming
destroys their voice and screaming everynight. think about it, i hope that
Enigk does continue to, cause there is no doubt it is great, but every show,
almost everynight is bound to do some long term damage, what do you want more?

Re: [sdre-l]: crowd frustrations

1999-11-29 Thread teamlinx

hello everyone,
thisis in response to lori's letter. first i like the get up kids and
most of the time the people can ruin a show. i am from mesa Arizona and i
dont like to go to jimmy eat world shows because they are from arizona so
all the locals think that they have more rights than the others there so
no matter how good j.e.w. plays, the crowd ruins it. but there are things
likeshowering that always help :)
and some shows just arent good!i went to a jimmy eat world show and there
was a fight, once there was moshing, and one time a girl in a sdre shirt
passed out right next to me and i had to catch her (she wasnt even
drinking or anything either)
weird stuff. so dont base your opinion on a band through only one show.

but i agree about all sdre shows. ive seen them twice and at both shows
everyone gave eachother space, no one talked while they were playing,
everyone had their jaw dropped, and it even felt like everyone felt that
feeling i did. (the tingles)

ok thanks if youve read this far

there is no way you can do it like that. [in standard]
but you can use drop D and play it like this.
   D F A#
D 0 3 x
A 0 3 1
D 7 3 3
G 7 x 3
B x x 1
E x x 1

you can figure out the octaves by ear. pretty simple, only 3 chords to it
all.
-steve.
ps i hope this helps. =)

1999-11-29 Thread Inferior19

hi, i don't know if you all have already said this or not, but after i just
saw someone mention some sdre links in movies, i wanted to know if anyone
else noticed the sunny day bumper sticker on the main character's bookcase.
it was just in a scene with him in his room. i've only seen the movie once,
and it caught me eye. i never got a chance to look back and make sure that
it wasn't my imagination. if anyone else noticed that too, feel free to let
me know...just so i know that i'm not just seeing things.

1999-11-29 Thread christopher zervos

Wow.

I feel like everyone here is running around doing the same things I am.

Anyway, concerning the comments made about the Get Up Kids show, man emo
shows seem to always suck. I saw Sunny day at the Metro here in Chicago,
and it just seemed like all of the people in the audience were so tired.
Nobody moved at all. They just stared and drank. If anyone here has that
show anywhere I'd love to acquire it. I just think that I didn't get to
enjoy it as much as I could have if I had been painting or something at the
time insted of being bummed out by the people around me. (If you want, I
can trade copys of a few rare things I have by SDRE in return)

A little off of the subject, I saw the Get Up Kids at the same venue the
year before, and man was it awesome. It was their 300th show that year, and
to celebrate, they were takeing a break from live shows after that night.
Their girlfriends and families flew in to surprise them. It was so cute.
Not to mention that the headliner was the now defunct Braid, who also played
a phenomenal set. Then both bands did a song toghther! I just got a really
good show for my 15 bucks (or something like that.) But yeah, the audience
was all really girly boys who couldn't grow mustaches in cowboy outfits and
all of their girlfriends who all would have been at the hight of fashion had
they been boys.

[sdre-l]: [sdre-l] Jeremy?

1999-11-29 Thread Katie Imes

Hello! I've been on this list for what feels like
forever, but never sent an e-mail to the whole list
til now.

I'm a senior in high school,and lately I've been
filling out college applications. While I was working
on Ohio State's I came across something strange in
their Application Bulletin. Maybe I'm having
delusions, but I swear there's a picture of Jeremy in
it. There's a section on residential living, and one
of the pictures is of these two really cheerful girls
in their dorm. It looks like there's a picture of
Jeremy from the ROTFQ back cover hanging above one of
the beds. Pretty cool.

On the subject of Jeremy, does anyone know the lyrics
to Oh John or where I could find them?

Later,
Katie

1999-11-29 Thread charles wagner.

Okay, I've been reading all these Foo Fighters reviews since their new disc
came out, and my friend went to three of their shows and chatted a bit with
the band each time; in the two interviews I've read, Nate says about three
words, the same amount he said at the concerts. Question: was Nate this
softspoken in SDRE, or is it a "popularity" thing?

ladies and gentleman,

Here is one to ponder with all this live stuff floating around. I wish
that someday soon Sunny Day would play some acoustic sets at their shows.
Songs that come to mind are IN circles and Every Shining time you arrive.

[sdre-l]: Recording News?

1999-11-29 Thread julia

Hello all,

I am new to the list, and would like to say a friendly hello. i have been a
Sunny Day fan for a while now, and have the fortunate opportunity to have
somewhat of a connection to the band (through a friend). I was listening to
the Live album on a long road trip back from Easten Washington today. It
was soothing, especially the rendition of "Days were Golden." Anyhow, I
was posting in regards to future Sunny Day recording. I had heard that a
new album was slated for next year, but i have also heard that they are on a
temporary hiatus. Anyone who could answer my question (or rumors), thank
you! Chow.

Re: [sdre-l]: The whole screaming thing...

1999-11-29 Thread Jonathan Kubacka

  Hey,
Right on Matt!! I was gonna post a similar message too. All of you
that are crying about him not screaming just got to realize that Jeremy's
style evolved just the same wasy that the band's music did. It's all
natural, ya know? They still rule and that's all that matters. Another
thing, so many complaining about the quality of the video; overall it's very
good, better than a lot that I've seen. Yeah, it sucks that the sound is off
on Song About An Angel and all but overall it is still pretty high quality.
Be thankful!
Increase the peace!,
   -jon.
From: Matt Caron [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I've been sitting here and reading these emails week after week
about the screaming. Yes, I got diary first and I really felt his passion
when he screamed. It did alot, but now with the live album and How It Feels
he isnt screaming. So what. Its not like he isnt passionate about what he
is singing anymore.

[sdre-l]: sdre ebay activity :(

1999-11-29 Thread enn

Hey listees,

This is my first (and probably only) post to this list. I want to
bring up something that I discovered today -- I was surfing ebay
trying to find some sdre paraphernalia and such... I typed in "sunny
day real estate" in the search, and was shocked when the results
turned up that nearly all of the items listed were of live vids and
audio. No, I don't think 'shocked' is really the word, because
"nothing's shocking"...so it's more like 'disgusted.'

Now before I start blaming the sellers, I said to myself that it is
their own method for their own source of secondary income or whatever
it is they're doing, and perhaps it can be rationalized in that
...well... we live in capitalist america. And perhaps these are
"legit" boots (i.e. they bought it in some store), which would make it
forgiveable to be auctioning them on ebay. But I doubt SDRE has that
many boots out there, so just the idea that these people are making
this money off both the band and the naive fans is sickening.

Of course, of course, I've realized that this happens with other
bands as well, but it was just today that I came upon such
overwhelming search results. I've tried to reason with myself about
this, but when it comes down to it, it is very simple: greed. They
are oblivious to that really good feeling of _sharing_good_music.
Trading is wonderful, BPs are wonderful, boot offers are wonderful,
but in their minds, money is obviously a lot more wonderful. And I'm
not saying it isn't, because money does mean something. But trading
and stuff is purely benevolent and/or recreational and in the best
interest of sharing music, whereas selling/auctioning is just blind
greed.

so anyway, that's my little rant. I don't have any suggestions for
what to do about all this because there is not one thing anyone can do
(except maybe e-harass the sellers..hehe). The point of this post was
just to make you all aware of this. I'd really like to hear what
everyone thinks. I got my first boot from someone beautiful who taped
me a show, asking for only return postage and two extra stamps for her
:) . On another mailing list I'm on, one person offered the entire
list a free bootleg, with the simple reason that he loved the music
and wanted others to hear it. So maybe I'm just naive or something,
and maybe I'm taking this too seriously. But still TRADE, DAMMIT!

Jen.
