Re: SD 84 to 93 dodge daytona history book
I think this gentleman has been at two events over the last 4 months. He was at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum show in early June and also at SDAC in late June taking pictures of Shelby Dodges and talking about his upcoming release of the Daytona book. He took a lot of names and pictures, but didn't try to sell me anything. I think he seemed legit. I introduced him to Barry Goodale at the show in Troy. I just did a little research just now and found details on the book here http://www.trafford.com/07-0755 http://www.amazon.ca/Daytona-Chrysler-Definitive-History-1984-1993/dp/1425123821 Looks good. Re: SD Overstock Custom Decal Sale
I've got a minor correction on one of these decals I've put on sale. On the 1987 Shelby Lancer the decal also has the word turbo after the intercooled portion. It can easily be cut off (since it is kind of redundant :) or used separately. It's still the same price. The placement I initially described on the 1987 Shelby Lancer is a little off as well, it actually goes on the lower fender since there is no hood bulge. It's pretty unique location for a large decal since most go on the hood to designate what's under the hood. There is no shipping fees on any decal orders for all US or Canada orders and payment can be made by calling in using a credit card, PayPal or mailing in the funds. Thanks again. Re: SD shelby wheels on volvo hot rod on Ebay
Shelby Wheels offered wheels for just about every make and model many years ago. I don't know why, but I have mostly seen their wheels on Volvo's over the years. They are probably real Shelby wheels, but not from a Shelby Dodge. Exactly, these must have been one of his earlier styles from his wheel company. The CSS rim (as in the lace wheel used on the 1987 Shelby Lancer) was used quite heavily in a smaller size as a popular dealership upgrade wheel on some Japanese imports during the late 1980's. I think it was Nissan or Toyota. I still see them all the time around town. They have the same somewhat unique lace design but with smaller center caps. A few months back I was at a small used car dealership when I spotted an older import (maybe a Camry) that was wearing a set of painted Lemans wheels (as in the style used on the 1988 CSX-T). Sadly, they were in a smaller size (14) and the bolt pattern was incompatible with Dodge. And even worse off they were missing all four center caps. I thought if they could fit, they would look great on a trailer, though. Re: SD Update on my Nightmare....
Yes, the dealership said they had to do so in order to get the engine out. Is that not true? From what I have been hearing from others, it was not necessary. I don't do alot of my own wrench turning, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's harder to remove an engine from the bottom via dropping the k-frame. Alot of my friends seem to prefer it that way. Either way will work quite well, it's a matter of personal preference. If I remember correctly when I replaced the 2.5 engine in my company minivan we only disconnected the lower section front struts connected to the each spindle and there was no need to completely remove them. The same thing applied on the steering column, it merely needs to be disconnected at the u-joint connecting to the steering rack. Removing either one completely is unnecessary overkill and I don't see any added advantage to doing so (and lots of extra work). The treatment you received shows a disgraceful level of customer service. I personally believe it's a combination of greed and incompetence. I would talk to their biggest rival (at another Daimler Chrysler dealership) to find out the most effective steps to get in touch with the highest (and most appropriate) level of corporate management. It's alot cheaper than paying lawyers. Also if you paid for these transactions via a credit card, you can file a merchant dispute where they'll put a hold on the money you paid to them until the issue is resolved. I can tell you firsthand as both a credit card merchant and someone who had to filed and won a merchant dispute for myself, the consumer holds more weight than the merchant in most cases. Re: SD My 87' GLH-S Shelby Nightmare Begins
Best recommendation is to use reputable aftermarket vendors like Forward Motion and FWD Performance so the dealers can't pull this [EMAIL PROTECTED] on us. If you can get your car back together enough to move out of there, ask around the local clubs in your area. Someone must know of a good mechanic who can rebuild your car. All you need to provide is the Factory Service Manuals. Or you can send your engine to one of the shops who can be trusted and have it shipped back for much less than they are trying to rake you over for. Robert is absoultely right, there should be some skilled Shelby Dodge people in your general area and the best way to locate them would be via the SD mailing lists or bulletin boards. Since you have reasonable budget alloted for the project, it may be a wise move to have the whole vehicle (or just the engine) transported to where the best talent is. You've got some of the best Shelby Dodge wrenchturners around located in the northeastern states like Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, etc. Some are not that far from Des Moines, Iowa. I talked to a number of customers that own small garages that are extremely skilled in rebuilding and upgrading Shelby Dodge's and most of them drive a number of them personally. Having a non SD recommended garage (especially a dealership) doing work on one of our unique cars can frequently lead to problems of overcharging or incompetence to properly do the job. It's been a while since I have posted on here. I am going to become very active on here, and other sites as well, due to the fact that I am going to become an overnight mechanic. The reason that I say so, is because Des Moines Chrysler is trying to destroy my baby. Here is the Story: On Monday 2/19/07 I was calling around to find if a mechanic would be able to rebuild my 1987 Shelby Dodge Charger GLH-S engine back to original state. No place would be able to touch it, due to the fact of it's age. I did come across the Des Moines Chrysler in, Des Moines, IA. I asked them if they would be able to restore my engine and they said that they would be able to do so, knowing that it's an 87' Shelby Dodge Charger #324. They said the cost would be around $3,499.00 to do the job and that is w/ parts and labor. I told them I would have a tow company come and get the automobile and deliver it to them. On Tuesday 2/20/07, I called City Wide Towing, and asked if they would be able to come and pick up my automobile and deliver it to Des Moines Chrysler and use a flatbed to do so. They said no problem. They told me that it would cost $79.50 to tow it. Which I thought is pretty good for towing. On Wednesday 2/21/07, I don't hear anything from Des Moines Chrysler. Starting to get worried if the automobile was delivered yet. On Thursday 2/22/07, I call Des Moines Chrysler, to find out if the automobile is there and what the status is. They said that it is there, and they are going to start looking at it, after lunch. I was relieved that it did arrive. They said before they start looking into it they are going to need around $1,000.00 deposit to start working on it. Which I was alright with, because it was going to come off the top of the $3,499.00 price, which would leave me around $2,499.00 left to pay. On Friday 2/23/07, Des Moines Chrysler called me and told me that they found several other things wrong with the automobile and that it's going to cost me an additional $5,000.00 to repair. Well, I worked the night before (7:00pm to 7:00am) and was kind of out of it until that moment. They knew that that was a lot of money, so they told me to think about it and give them a call on Monday. On Monday 2/26/07, I haven't called Des Moines Chrysler, because I am still thinking about the idea, and what my options are. On Tuesday 2/27/07, this is what I call, D Day. Des Moines Chrysler calls me and states that they wanted to know what my decision was. I asked them what the total cost would be to rebuild the engine, and they told me that the engine would not be rebuildable. They are going to have to get a long block that is re-manufactured, from Texas. They stated that would cost me a total of a ball park figure of $6,000.00+. And for everything else included would cost a total of $7,100.00+. I stated that would be way too much for me to have to pay, unless they had payment arrangements. They said that he would need to check with his boss. He called me back with in 30 minutes. He stated that there is no payment arrangement options. Wasn't that kind of a rare option on that vehicle. I thought I read that not a lot of them came that way. Although I also read that there aren't a lot of parts to fix the supercharged engine if you ever do have problems. If memory serves me it was converted by Mr Norm's associates at the Performance West Group and distributed by one of the original Shelby authorized Dodge dealers- Fitzgerald Dodge in Laconia, New Hampshire. I think most the traditional supercharger parts are still available except for maybe the more unique signature pieces. Performance West would be the people to talk to. Someone bring this one back from the dead. Definately. It's a great looking ride and they sold for big $$$ when new. SD Autions ending Monday evening
I've put together a collection of hard to find factory press materials from around 1984 to 1993. These are not released to the public and are made up from in-house large data books and factory press packages. Instead of having to purchase an entire book (with many vehicles your not interested in) you can just buy the sections on the vehicles you want. I've divided them up into packages for each specific vehicle. They contain anywhere from eight to twenty pages containing key selling points, detailed spec sheets product option package descriptions. These are some great collectibles that rarely survive today. They're great to have for the specs available options to learn more about your vehicle or you can use them in a car show display. I put on most of the FWD stuff initially (with rear wheel drive stuff added next week)tonight including the 1983 LeBaron talking car and the rare 1986 Chrysler limousine. SD Heater Core Flushing Tips Wanted

Re: SD Refinishing aluminum wheels (sawtooth)?
I've cleared wheels in the past and have noticed two things: -The clear peels in a couple years -The finish is dulled by the clear That's the main problems with clearcoats. You hit the nail on the head. Clay's suggestion for Zoop Seal is good. It's the most state of the art clearcoat available. There's also another simple idea I've seen alot of people do. Don't use any clearcoat. The advantages are that you'll maintain a higher level of gloss and periodically when it starts to look a little dull, simply do a little freshening up with some high quality metal polish. Another plus to this technique is that if they ever get roughed up it's much easier (and cheaper) to make the repairs when you don't have any clearcoat to remove and replace. It would be nice to get some better participation amongst the FWD crowd and give the people an easier more centralized place to find a updated list of shows. I've got the main portion of the page completed and it's set up where I shine a bigger spotlight on the events I have personal firsthand experience (and typically set up as a vendor) such as the SDAC national conventions, Carlisle All-Chrysler Nationals and one of the few southeastern events on Nov. 4th 5th Mopars With Big Daddy at the Don Garlits Museum Of Drag Racing in Ocala, FL. SD Rare dealer video footage FS
I've relisted a few of the dealer items I picked up on eBay this week. It's collection of rare dealership training display materials from 1993 through 1996. Unfortunately I don't have any of the 1980's or early 1990's era stuff (I'd love to see some footage if anyone does). This stuff ranges from in-house vehicle training VHS videos, audio cassettes and large (poster size) 15'' x 26'' showroom catalog pages. The videos are the coolest and they show the cars looking their best being professionally photographed in footage you would usually only see in commercials when the cars were new. These are some cool collectibles that rarely survive today. If you like some of these later models, check them out I've got plenty of huge pictures to see what they look like. SD Dealership stuff FS
I've added a bunch of Mopar stuff on eBay this week. It's collection of rare dealership training display materials from 1993 through 1996. Unfortunately I don't have any of the 1980's or early 1990's era stuff. It ranges from in-house vehicle training VHS videos, audio cassettes and large (poster size) 15'' x 26'' showroom catalog pages. These are some cool collectibles that rarely survive today. If you like some of these later models, check them out I've got plenty of huge pictures to see what they look like. They feature a wide variety of vehicles from the Dodge Chrysler/Plymouth lineup including the Shadow, Neon, Avenger, Spirit, Sundance, Duster, Acclaim, Caravan, Voyager, Dakota, Ram, Town Country, LeBaron GTC convertible and one Viper item. I've added most of the best stuff now but I'll have more display catalog pages to add later on. SD 1982 Rampage Sport decals
I would like to announce that I've just completed a brand new reproduction stripe package for the 1982 Dodge Rampage Sport. For those of you who don't remember exactly what they looked like, here's a press photo to show you. http://unleashedbyshelby.com/1982RampageSport.jpg It's a item that I've been wanted to replicate for quite a while. It's a very elaborate set of factory decals that took alot of work to figure out the best way to recreate them. Last year I finally found someone who had a partial NOS set and it gave me some of tools I needed to get the reproduction version just right. During the reverse engineering process of looking how the original versions were created some of the limitations of the original manufacturing process could now be eliminated. One of the biggest restrictions about elaborate factory graphics is that they need to be able to installed very quickly on the fast pace assembly line. One of those things that they had to do on the original 1982 Rampage Sport stripe package to speed up the installation is they made all the spitfire orange decals have the graphic red background paint color built into them. From a replication standpoint this makes them alot more expensive to replicate plus you better match the original shade of graphic red paint to the red background color or else things won't look right. If I get it perfect on the vinyl but the painter is a few shades off it'll still be a problem for the customer. After a careful review of the overall design I discovered it can work extremely well (and look 99% original) by manufacturing it without the red background color. I made this decision to make this update for a couple of important reasons. The first one is that the cost of production would be much lower making it alot more affordable to the consumer. The second is that by eliminating the unnecessary background color it opens up the opportunity for both custom paint and decal colors. You could go from a subtle change like a slightly more vibrant (or metallic) red or a completely color combo. There are endless possibilities of color combinations. The factory only produced this option package in two different color combos- graphic red paint w/spitfire orange decals and black paint w/burnished silver decals. The black version is much more rare and if anyone has a decent color photo of one I'd love to see it. The press photos are all of the red orange trucks. As you can tell from the photo it's a very elaborate, interconnecting decal package that has alot of unique shapes and unusual curves to it. Due to it's expense and complexity, a reproduction version has never been produced and a full set from the dealer hasn't been available for many years. The regular price for this complete package is 275.00, but for an introductory sale I'm featuring it at only 249.00. All decal orders feature free shipping for both the US Canada as well. For simplicity most people tend to call in their order with any major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, etc) and I'll take the order right over the phone during both day or evening hours (but mailing a payment can be done also). Re: SD Ever break a roller cam?
SD Ever break a roller cam? he discovered that the roller cam had snapped between the area around the last 2 lobes. I agree with all that has been written in replies about this so far. But to shed a little more light on this, my 90 VNT Daytona Shelby has broken 2 cams. The first one shortly after I bought the car (in 2000), at about 88K miles. That cam was replaced with a used stock T2 roller cam. I wanted to thank everyone who responded for the great information. I don't think the head had any warping issues since it's never overheated since she's owned it. The mechanic who fixed it went by the by the textbook approach of having a machine shop look at it even though my instincts and prior experience told me it wasn't warped. They said they're was a slight imperfection that they smoothed over but I think that might be translated into the machine shop making sure they at least generate a little bit revenue from the customer. From this data it would seem that a casting defect in the camshaft was to blame and maybe it was accentuated by having the timing belt snap while driving and possibly by being reinstalled too tight. So far it's been running well and it was nice to provide her some firsthand information from some of the most experienced owners of 2.2/2.5 powered vehicles out there instead of general purpose mechanic confusing the characteristics of other 4 cylinder engines. SD Ever break a roller cam?
Last year my sister had her high mileage car break down for good and she was in need of a new daily driver. A local friend knew of a good deal on a 2.5 powered minivan so I thought it would be a dependable vehicle for her. I use one myself for m company minivan and it's been quite good with me. It's been pretty reliable thus far but recently she's been had an unusual problem that's been making her feel that it may be headed for a serious and expensive engine repair (which she can't afford since she was laid off recently). Last month without any prior warning signs it stalled out and wouldn't restart. I went to take a quick look at it for her and discovered it was a pretty simple problem, the timing belt had broken. Well that was common enough and it wasn't complicated or expensive to repair so I didn't feel it was an unusual. The repairs went fine and it was back on the road and running fine within days but what happened next I thought was real unusual. Again it stalled out and wouldn't restart. I pulled the inspection plug from the upper timing belt cover and the upper cam gear was turning so I knew the timing belt was turning. She had it towed to a shop where their immediate diagnosis was a blown head gasket. This made little sense to me since there was no warning signs and it had no history of or sudden last minute overheating or smoking. They said they ran a compression check and two cylinders were getting little to no pressure. I didn't feel that was the right diagnosis so she had a mechanic friend of hers work on it at his house. He somewhat agreed with their theory but when the head was pulled the head gasket looked perfect. Upon further inspection (which should have noticed once the valve cover was removed) he discovered that the roller cam had snapped between the area around the last 2 lobes. In a regular stock setup without extreme driving conditions I don't seem to recall seeing camshafts breaking like that. I supplied a decent 2.5 used roller cam that he reinstalled the head gasket cam and it's back to running normally. Someone told her that this was a sign that the bottom end of the motor would be going out soon and the engine was on borrowed time. I was thinking that the cam breakage was just a fluke and possibly due to stress caused by the timing belt breaking and wouldn't have a direct influence on the lower end of the engine. Has anybody had any experiences with camshafts snapping under routine driving? If so are they having other engine problems later? Re: SD A $50,000 Shelby Dodge?
I'm pretty sure it's the real deal. There was supposed to be 25 cars made, all white with blue stripes. They didn't make all of them. I read an extensive article in a national Mopar magazine about them many years ago. The white one I saw pictured had some nice visual upgrades. CS signed all of the glove box doors from his hospital bed. That must have been when his older son donated a kidney for him. $50k for the one car that is not white is probably going to look like a steal someday. It's a steal today. But that was a far below reserve price opening bid. A regular Viper with miles that low would easily yeild 50,000. These limited run versions from Fitzgerald originally sold with a much bigger price tag. SD Crap Cars (the book) ???
I was in a local mega book store the other day to pick up a copy of Mustang Milestones to check out the great Shelby Dodge article. While looking at some other automotive magazines and books I came across a mini book about the most useless cars in automotive history titled Crap Cars by Richard Porter. They listed the top 50 of what the author believed to be the worst cars of recent history. I wouldn't disagree with some of their choices but what annoyed me is some of the front wheel drive Mopars included amongst this collection. Three of these ones picked stood out the most and don't deserve the crap car label. First off the early 1980's K cars (Aries, 600, LeBaron) were mentioned as the #23 choice. While in most cases I agree they weren't very exciting but they served an important chapter in Chrysler history and were pretty sound mechanically since I still see a number of them putting in daily driver service on the road today. The also helped bring the convertible back to the American automotive market. Their #29 selection was the Chrysler TC By Maserati. With the blending of two completely different cultures, work attitudes automotive design principles this vehicle should have a more respected place in Chrysler history. It did bring about one of the impressive versions ever of a 16v head ever made for the 2.2 engine. The last one (picked as a #4) I disagreed with the most. They selected the 1982-84 Dodge Rampage. While I do believe they never achieved their full potential I've always felt that they always have been ahead of their time. The mini pickup movement was just getting started and at the time the others were budget based imports that only had base model interiors no overall sense of sportiness or style. Remember the hideous VW (Rabbit based) Sportruck? If they stuck with the FWD truck idea or better yet debuted it a few years later with a Shelbyized performance package like a turbo 2.2 option and factory installed ground effects package like the Shelby Charger it would have been much more respected remembered today. Anyone driving a well restored (or customized) one today sees just how much positive feedback and attention they get. Re: SD Chryslers at Carlisle
Just wondering about the specifics of registering for the All Chrysler Nationals at Carlisle, PA this coming July. Since the subject of Carlisle has came up I wanted to let everybody know we're returning again this summer which will be our 6th year at our same great block of vendor spaces. This year things will be a little different since it'll be the debut event of the year for us since SDAC-16 in Topeka, KS is going to start on July 19th instead of being in late June. For those who missed last year's show Chris Paul from Turbos Unleashed will feature a full selection of inventory available to purchase at the event where prior to 2005 he only had a smaller inventory of display products. He's got a amazing selection of great new items I'm sure everybody will want to purchase. Like I said last year since all of the FWD vendors have expanded their product lines and we've only got a limited (unexpandable) amount of vendor spaces in this great location it's just going to be Positive Impressions Turbos Unleashed for this year. Cindy from FWD Performance has quite a large product line and needs space for her truck car trailer so she'll be in separate block of vendor spaces from now on. I'm not sure of her car show schedule for 2006 (or if she's setting up at Carlisle) but I'm sure she'll let everyone know closer to the summer season if she's hitting the road. The All-Chrysler Nationals are being held in Carlisle, PA on July 7th, 8th 9th. We'll be traveling in from Florida Arizona to be a vendor at this great show. It'll make things much easier for the SD fan by being able to visit one area within the swap meet to find an variety of latest products available just for OUR cars. In addition to meeting the faces behind both Positive Impressions Turbos Unleashed as well. We We're working on having a better display area than ever. I've renewed my group of four spaces in an extremely good location. With the larger Mopar events, location is everything (like real estate). Within their 82 acre fairgrounds our four spaces are right in the middle of the main swap meet area, two rows from the rest rooms and very close to the food court and Building T (where they have pay phones, ATM machines the concept cars). Another great bonus is that it's right along the tram route (which is a trolley type tour train that carries the public around the parameter of the fair ground). We'll be really easy to locate at the show. The numbers for our vendor spaces are I-97, I-98, I-99 and I-100. If your going to attend only one major car show this year, Carlisle is the place to be. It's the best organized show I've ever seen with a 2,000 car show field and tons of great vendors. Like Barry said, for the details on the show, you can visit the website for the event at: http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/schedule/chrysler/index.asp . That'll give you all the up to date show info. SD New AAR style stripe set available !!
I've got some good news to start out the new year. I'm debuting the first in a series of new original (non-reproduction) line of stripe sets. The last few years there's been a trend of featuring classic Mopar musclecar decal designs on newer performance cars. Even the Daimler Chrysler joined the retro musclecar bandwagon when the new Hemi was introduced. Some look pretty good when they're on the right newer performance vehicles such as the newer Ram pickups or 2005 Dodge Charger's. I initially thought of the idea when there was a discussion on the mailing list a while back about the prototype 1985 Plymouth 'Cuda that featured a AAR style strobe pattern decal set. I never thought it looked as good as it could have and that I could put together a version truer to the one of a kind design used on the 1970 Plymouth AAR 'Cuda. I worked on the design for quite a while to get it just right and I'm going to debut the 1982-84 Rampage version of it first (followed soon by a 1980's Dodge Charger version). Some may have seen some mockup artwork I had at last year's SDAC-15 Carlisle. Now with assistance from Dave Knochenmus (by using his very photogenic 1982 Rampage) I've got some great photos available to show just how great they look when installed. Just for a point of comparison I threw in a picture of an actual 1970 AAR to show how accurate the design comes to match the unique original strobe pattern. You can see the new website pics two ways. You can go to the Positive Impressions website directly via www.unleashedbyshelby.com and click on the 2006 product link at the bottom of the page, then scroll down to the Dodge Rampage listing towards the middle and click on the yellow lettering or you can click on this direct link: http://www.unleashedbyshelby.com/AAR_RampagePackage2006c4.html As customers start to purchase and install them I'll update the photos and show how good they'll look in a variety of color combinations. I'm really looking forward to seeing them using different color schemes and especially in some reflective vinyl. Re: SD WTB: 1986 GLH-S / Florida $2-3k
Hello, I asked a while ago to see if anyone has a 86 GLHS for sale and got a few offers but none in Florida so i'm trying again! Looking for a 1986 GLH-S In Florida!! for $2-3k I would highly recommend expanding your search area. The state of Florida covers a lot of surface area (I live in Jacksonville myself) but real 1986 GLH-S Omni's are not commonly available here or in any part of the country. If they were divided up evenly each state would only have ten cars. Their level of desirability over the last few years has greatly increased and I have the inside perspective nobody else has on what's the most common Shelby Dodge's to be restored since I sell replacement stripe packages. I'm very familiar firsthand with the Florida marketplace for numbered cars and that price range would be about impossible. Maybe a more rural area up north or out west, but for that price range it's going to be a fairly heavy project that'll need extensive bodywork or missing a good number of hard to find parts. The fact is the 1986 GLH-S is the most sought after of all the numbered cars, the one the big names in the classic automobile field deem as the best future collectible potential and it's the least commonly put up for sale (it's about a 10 to 1 ratio compared to 1987 GLH-S Chargers being put up for sale). If you wanted to stay in that price range you'll either need to do whole lot of legwork following up rumors of backyard projects and find someone who is completely unconnnected to the Shelby Dodge community like mailing lists or car clubs. If the masses hear of good deal on an 1986 they'll grab it before you get a chance. The main ones available right now are in the $10,000 plus range for mint, low mile original rides or more for the better than new full tilt restoration/upgrade that the owner invested a much higher amount the parts alone than he's asking to get out of it. Two amazing examples offhand belong to Allan Quackenbush Nick DeRoo. If it's not the collectibility your desiring, then a 1986 GLH Turbo is alot more accessible for that price range and can be easily built to perform equally.. Re: SD Shelby title issue
The people at our MVA said the same thing about how long they had been working there etc. I made them pull the MSO and they corrected it and just tossed it on the counter and walked off without any apology. Maybe some states do not hold on to MSO's forever, or maybe they just don't feel like looking. In 1984 our MVA still had the MSO and original registration for my '69 Barracuda. Do you think that would still apply if the vehicle was not originally sold in that state? I believe my 1987 CSX #172 was originally sold in another state which would lead me to believe that the MSO would be on file in that particular state. Anybody have the records to show the original state/dealer that #172 was sold in? I had my local DMV here in my home state of Florida run what they called a body file for my vehicle to get a printout of all the previous paperwork history that's on file. What I received was a copy of a West Virginia title followed by the transfer paperwork to a Jacksonville, FL dealership who sold it to the guy I bought it from. A good friend of mine from here in Jacksonville bought his 1987 GLHS Charger #0664 when it was new and the state of Florida in it's wisdom saw the word Shelby when setting up the paperwork and ended up listed the make as Ford on his title. Just an open question to all on the list. What vendors will be attending the All Chrysler Nationals at Carlisle, PA this year? I have not read anyone saying anything about this show this year. .Remember everyone, it only comes around to NE PA once a year. Those of us in PA and the surrounding states, very much look forward to this show every year!! Thanks!! Since the subject of Carlisle came up I wanted to let everybody know we're returning again this year which will be our 5th year at our same great block of vendor spaces. Due to vehicle problems I couldn't make it last year but I just got back in from SDAC-15 and I'm returning to the road for this great show. They'll be a few new things for us starting at this year's event. Chris Wright from Turbos Unleashed will be bring a full selection of inventory available to purchase at the event where at he past he only had display products. He's got a amazing selection of great new items I'm sure everybody will want to purchase. Since the FWD vendors have all expanding our product lines and we've only got a limited (unexpandable) amount of vendor spaces in this great location so it's just going to be Positive Impressions Turbos Unleashed for this year. Cindy from FWD Performance needs more space for her truck car trailer so she'll be in separate block of vendor spaces from now on. Unfortunately she won't be attending this year's event but we look forward to seeing her next time. The All-Chrysler Nationals are being held in Carlisle, PA on July 8th, 9th, 10th. We'll be traveling in from Florida Arizona to be a vendor at this great show. It'll make things much easier for the SD fan by being able to visit one area within the swap meet to find an variety of latest products available just for OUR cars. In addition to meeting the faces behind both Positive Impressions Turbos Unleashed we'll also have the latest items on display from Polybushings.com. We're working on having a better display area than ever. If anyone wants a map of how to find our location, check out the link below. If your going to attend only one car show this year, Carlisle is the place to be. It's the best organized show I've ever seen with a 2,000 car show field and tons of great vendors. http://www.geocities.com/unleashed_by_dave/Carlisle2001.jpg For all the details on the show, you can visit the website for the car show at www.carsatcarlisle.com . That'll give you all the up to date show info. Re: SD Daytona convertible
Just saw this on e-bay anyone ever heard of such a thing? Pretty wild. Brett Item number: 4559004855 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemrd=1item=455900485 5category=6210 An older friend of mine that was into Shelby's when they were new saw a convertible version of a Chrysler Laser being sold at a Dodge dealership in central Florida when he was looking for a GLH. It looks nearly identicaI to the ones in the pictures in the eBay ad. I believe the story was that there were a number of them sent off to be altered and they were going to see what kind of feedback they got. Supposedly a local friend of mine knows someone who has one that he's wanted to buy for years. Is it a factory prototype? I don't think so, nor is it only 1 of 5. Here's some pretty cool pics he took of it in the mid 1980's. http://www.geocities.com/unleashed_by_dave/ChryslerLaserConvertible1.jpg http://www.geocities.com/unleashed_by_dave/ChryslerLaserConvertible2.jpg http://www.geocities.com/unleashed_by_dave/ChryslerLaserConvertible3.jpg http://www.geocities.com/unleashed_by_dave/ChryslerLaserConvertible4.jpg David Salamone Positive Impressions PO Box 27073 Jacksonville, Florida 32205 904-388-4040 phone [EMAIL PROTECTED] See the updates on our website at www.unleashedbyshelby.com ---REMOVE-FOOTER-WHEN-REPLYING Questions? Re: SD Has anyone ever shipped GLH sideskirts and front air dam?
I've got a real nice set I'm planning to sell but wow is it long. Has anyone ever shipped a set? and was there anything special about the box? or extra fees? When I was shipping Shadow bumper covers I discovered large bulky objects can be a challenge to ship affordably. First off use Fed Ex and go directly to their main location if at all possible. They're going to measure it via a limit of a certain amount of cubic inches (side x width x height, etc). You'll have no room to spare on these so boxing them up is not an option. What you do to keep the size to a minimum is to cover them in bubble wrap from end to end. You can buy a roll of the small bubble stuff at Office Depot along with the clear packaging tape. You may have to ship the sides front separate to meet the size criteria. Also if you go during a busy day (with lots of people in line) they're less likely to notice (or care) if it's slightly oversize. Re: SD 89 Dakota wheel
I did alot of research on another leather wheel restoration company that had an extensive resume of experience and was lower priced. To check out the quality of their work (because I was interested in using them as a vendor) I had them first do a 3 spoke Shelby Dakota wheel. The craftsmanship seemed decent but they used the wrong grain of leather. I was also interested in having them redo the 1987-88 four spoke wheels (that were not originally covered in leather) so I sent one out. What I finally got back after way too many we'll get it right out's what finally arrived was a joke. They didn't put the seams where I requested and glued on leather patches around the spokes instead of wrapping it. I had them redo it but it still was still substandard when I finally got it back. There are few companies that are skilled enough to properly recover a steering wheel so I'd say American Stitches is the way to go. David Salamone Positive Impressions PO Box 27073 Jacksonville, Florida 32205 904-388-4040 phone [EMAIL PROTECTED] See the newly updated product list at www.unleashedbyshelby.com I saw (and held) one that Tim Costello had done by American Stitches in Mesquite Texas. It was superb!!The leather was tight, but soft to the touch. It felt so good to the touch, I didn't want to put it down. If I had a steering wheel like that in my car, I would want to go on long trips just so I could steer. The wheel he had done was one of the wood grain wheels, so the leather was only on the sides of the rim, but did extend to the rubber part of the center spokes. The stitches were top quality, the fit was perfect. They will cover entire wheels also. American Stitches - Terry Rowe VP Sales Marketing 972-613-8678 [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.american-stitches.com Barry I have an 89 Shelby Dakota, that needs it's steering wheel redone. I'm having a problem locating one; or even a good place to get this one redone. All the places I called couldn't guarantee how tight the leather would be after it was done. Re: SD Thanks, and 86 GLHT paint completed in flat black epoxy
Looks good.. I wonder if that would shine right up with a coat of clear? heh.. As for decals, yeah, go with the red decals, that'd look awesome. :) I could make the decals in a custom color combo such as flat black for the inner portion (normally red) of the lettering and gloss black for the outer portion. It would have a subtle phantom look to them. SD New AAR strobe Rampage stripe set
A while ago on the mailing list there was a thread about the AAR 'Cuda style stripe set being potentially used on the Charger or Rampage and a number of people that were expressing interest in having one. This theme being discussed was the classic Mopar musclecar design with a graduated series of vertical strobe lines stretching across the upper body stripe. The idea was brought up when someone displayed online photos of the 1985 'Cuda prototype car that Chrysler considered building. I've seen at car shows and dealerships that a number of owners of newer Mopar performance cars (and trucks) have incorporated the same design retro design into their vehicles. I decided to come up with the quintessential version of a this idea that stays true to the original design in a much more accurate way than the prototype 'Cuda ever did. I used the 1983 Charger 2.2 / Rampage 2.2 factory decal set as a general outline and modified it to properly incorporate the exact design of the AAR strobe pattern into it. I incorporated in an AAR typeface of Rampage on the upper rear quarter stripe and a large matching design strobe hood scoop decal. It took months of hard work to get things to look and fit exactly as I envisioned them. I completed the Rampage version first because an overseas customer of mine expressed serious interest in the new design after I mentioned it in passing. Well, I've finally got this new design completed and it's ready to cut. My plan was to have him install it on his truck first, take plenty of photos of how cool it looks and then I can debut it to everyone around convention time. This way I can give everyone an exact idea of what it'll look like once applied. Unfortunately I can't seem to reach my initial customer and I'd like to get this great new product introduced soon. What I'd like to find soon is somebody with a nice, clean Rampage that's been recently painted (or at least looks like it has) to purchase this first stripe set (at a discount) have it properly installed (professionally would be ideal) and have them take a series of photographs of the completed vehicle from all sides. It would need to be a solid paint color vehicle that would use a contrasting color stripe set so that it would photograph well. I would prefer a 1982-83 style 2 headlight front nose and not too many external modifications. A Shelbyized version with ground effects would be fine. These pictures would be scanned by me for use in ads on the company website. A lot of people will see your ride. Anybody out there interested in being the first one to wear a great new original Positive Impressions design AAR decal package? I'd like to find a Rampage owner initially and later on the same thing for the same package for a Charger. I'd like to make some progress on it fairly quick so I can finally have some photographs prepared of it to officially debut it for sale. In the next few days I'll have the pricing finalized so contact me soon if you were serious about getting one of these new designs and seeing your truck (or car) in ads. Re: SD Dodge Manufacturing List
I am just curious on why there is a NADA listing for a Dodge Rampage from 1982-1984? It was manufactured from 1982 through 1984. The Plymouth counterpart the Scamp (and Scamp GT) were only a one year venture in 1983 only. It was the first time the name Plymouth was on a truck in quite a while. SD Website Update
I just wanted to let everybody know that I made some updates to the product list section of my company website. I added a few new items that weren't listed previously and clarified a few listings. It'll give a better idea of what I have available. I also updated improved the host when I renewed the domain name. Check out the update at: www.unleashedbyshelby.com The website is still extremely basic for right now but when the car show season winds down I'm going to take some design program courses so I can get things looking the way I designed them to. My original background was in graphic arts printing so once I learn the new software all my traditional design skills will make things come together within this medium that is still new for me. Re: SD Poor Charger.
The paint job is cool, but I think it could be better. Flat black.. Yes, a flat black shelby skunk stripe up and over that car, and then flat black shelby decals on the sides along with the part that's usually silver along the bottom in flat black. I think that would make that an absolutely gorgeous and very unique Shelby Charger. :) That shade of gold is far better than what Ma Mopar put on the Aries in the early 80's.. ;) On 5/1/05, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Someone decided to un-beautify this Shelby Charger. =( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemcategory=6199item= 45 45920628rd=1 I agree, with the right custom color stripe set it would really bring it back to life again. Re: SD 1990 Voyager T1 no spark (again)
I'm going to look at a 1990 Plymouth Voyager 2.5 T1 minivan for sale today. I have been trying to get with the seller for a few weeks and finally got their address to see it. The van has no spark and I have already asked you guys what the problem might be (Thanks for the replies) and think that I have developed a semi-methodical approach to figuring out the problem. I had a car recently with the same general problem that quite a number of local people couldn't figure out. In the end what it turned out to be was a poor connection to the power module computer. If you'd turn the key to the on position and poke at the connector you'd hear the fuel pump activate and after a good cleaning of the outlets for the computer pins it would finally run once again. Re: SD Misc Dodge Shadow/Sundance/Duster parts wanted

Must be great living so close to Carlisle :) I would also like to find power mirrors, I believe I can still get aftermarket regular (non power) new ones at a great price. mint front bumper (paint bad but no cuts, prefer CSX-T), Narrowing it to a 1988 CSX-T one will make it alot harder to find. It's a standard 1987-88 Shadow bumper cover with the Shelby airdam overlaid on top of it. I had a source for great aftermarket ones but they discontinued them. The ones currently available from Chrysler I've been told have been superceded to the later 1989 up design (which will not accept the overlay). Look in the local salvage yards for an aftermarket replacement. The giveaway sign is their usually in their original (unfinished) state. They're easy to take off. grey fuse box cover piece of dash, standard Shadow piece. grey carpet, Stock 1988 Shadow stuff, try Auto Custom Carpet at www.accmats.com headliner. Re: SD Restore Shelby steering wheel?
Am-stitches.com is one of them off-hand. Mr. Salamone might have an idea on one since he didn't seem to impressed by am-stitches material (the work was good, the material wasn't an exact match, but close if I recall) I was dealing with a different vendor and thought I had a great resource for a reasonable price, but they were a huge disappointment. Poor customer service, extremely slow turnaround and far too many big mistakes being made. I've heard decent things about American Stitches but have never tried them myself. I remember Dave Knochenmus had one redone there with good results though. The black is flaking off and the outside grip is showing wear. When they get to that point they're expensive to repair and more expensive to cover in leather since the early 4 spoke wheels were never leather wrapped to start. I've done alot of research on these pieces firsthand. Can a place like Momo redo them? No, nor did they make the original. Re: SD Titled as a Shelby
Doesnt matter if the door tag or underhood tag says shelby, there could be a big giant sign on the hood that says built by shelby. they go by the vin and the only way to register it is to simply bug them with the other info that they dont use. Another trick is to not use the she and bug one of the guys till he gets annoyed enough to say ok ok its a shelby. I just send him a scanned copy of my title of my old 1987 GLHS which was bought titled in Florida (with Shelby properly listed as the make not Dodge) along with a copy of a certificate of origin for an 1989 Shelby CSX to show what the dealer would have received before a state title was issued. SD 1992-95 2.5 TBI engine wanted
As some of you might remember back in June of 2004 my 1994 Voyager company minivan broke down while enroute to SDAC-14. Unfortunately this forced me to eliminate my appearance at the convention the Carlisle show. Upon a closer look the engine damage was much more serious than I expected. In addition to blowing the 2 year old head gasket I discovered large chunks of a broken rod and other internals sitting in my oil pan. It took me by surprise since it was well maintained and has always had good oil pressure. Since a decent remanufactured engine is out of my price range for the time being I'd like to pick up and install a reliable used engine to get me back up and running. To be more specific I'm looking for a late model (1992-95 preferred) non-turbo 2.5 engine that's been well cared for (or recently had a good rebuild) and has got plenty of life left within it. If somebody even has a uninstalled crate motor sitting around that they wouldn't mind making a deal on I'd love to hear from them. Currently I'm working on finding one on a local level (including buying a whole car for parts) but I just don't want to get screwed from buying a pre-pulled motor that I have to spend all my time installing only to find out it runs poorly. Having a so called warranty on it is worthless if I have to uninstall it all over again. There's alot of great people here on the mailing list that have helped me in the past and someone out there may have just what I need. If my current efforts including locating a running accident damaged (or rusted) car don't come through I'm considering all options including having one shipped to me in north Florida. I'm familiar with working with air freight companies and I can get a decent deal. If someone has something available, let me know. I'd like to get the company minivan back on the road for daily use for a while before the rigors of long distance driving to car shows. Thanks again. SD 1987 CSX seats for sale
My roommate recently picked up a project 1988 CSX-T off eBay and decided he's going to restore that allocation instead of pursuing an 1987 CSX. He picked up a used but extremely clean (unripped unsplit) a while back for a future restoration and decided since he bought the CSX-T that he doesn't need it. It's the only P body spare parts he has and he decided he wants to sell it. He's got the two front seats and the divided rear seat as well and all are in excellent condition free from stains and splits. His price for all is 300.00 obo. Over the next week he'll be unwrapping it out of the plastic from staorage so I can later shoot some photos and weigh some pieces to be able to come up with an idea on shipping sizes costs. It can be picked up in person (I'm in Jacksonville, Florida in the northern part of the state) or it can be shipped or potentially delivered to SDAC-15 or Carlisle (if you're willing to pre-pay). Re: SD Is there a market for pre pre 91 Daytona rear badges(Dodge, Daytona, Shelby Z, Pacifica)
I am checking into a possible lead on NOS Daytona badges. The red and black ones found on 87-91 Daytona's and possibly other years. If there, is, which ones are most desired, and what would potential buyers be willing to give. The current demand for these is moderate and as it usually goes the high performance vehicle restoration parts are the more desirable of the lot. I've never received alot of requests for them which is likely since I've heard they are accessible to those who have a decent dealer parts person and know how to locate parts no longer being actively produced. Some people get scared off by the term NS1 (dealer parts dept code for no longer made) but it doesn't necessarily equal rarity. Almost every non mechanical part from the 1980's is NS1 technically but there are still a good supply of old, existing inventory sitting on dealer shelves all over the country waiting to be found. When dealerships go through their old stock and catalog it and put it on the online parts locator services the supply of hard to find items increases. In the past I've seen some truly rare unfindable parts suddenly appear because of this. If you decide which ones are most in demand and the cost for you is reasonable and you're willing to pursue the avenue of locating potential buyers then you might want to go for it. It would likely be a venture that will take a while to sell out what you get but if you're willing to be in for the long term as the other supplies dry up and the demand (and perceived value) increases you'll do alright. I am sure the decal style found on the Daytona Shelbys is reproducable and David Salamone may already have them since he typically has most of the OEM NOS decals. That is correct, I've got most of them covered and I'm working on the last few variations of Daytona decals now. Re: SD Daytona plastic model kits?
Hey guys, I was wondering if anybody knows anything about Dodge Daytona Shelby plastic model kits? I cant find any anywhere, and was hoping somebody on the list might have some info on it or possibly one for sale. Please let me know. I see them come up steadily on eBay every week. They made a few different varietys of regular plastic models for the 1980's cars and the later IROC cars got a lot of items. Re: SD New Kid On The Block
It will be on the tag on the core support. Its just standard 1987 Dodge Shadow black. The silver should be standard silver from the same time period as well. It left Chrysler as a solid black car and Shelby added no paint to his vehicles. How you ask? The front rear airdam along with the side ground effects were pre-painted with the dark silver paint. The balance of the silver was 3 sections of decals. As far as the code # for the lower body metallic silver it's: PPG DBU5013 Dark Silver Metallic. Same paint code as a 95 Dodge Truck. This is the perfect match for 87-88 CSX(T) cars. Just be sure the utilize flex agent in the paint since your just painting the flexible plastic parts on the car. SD Backwards minivan racing?
I was just sitting back doing some channel surfing and just came across a really bizarre show on Spike TV where people were racing minivans backwards in a demo derby type track. The guy that won was running what looked to be an 1989 or 1990 Dodge Caravan and another competitor had a later 1991-95 model Caravan (or Voyager). It was called Carpocalypse and I just caught the very end of it (after that they raced old school buses chained together in a figure 8 track in Orlando). I still haven't figured out that other Spike show that featured a 1987 GLHS and discussed Carroll Shelby though.. Re: SD Just got skrude: Carfax Please
After spending a little of my tax refund on another 87 CSX #488, the (not so) great state of Iowa desigated it as Previous Salvage becasue of a title transfer from Illinois in 1991 to Iowa. Starting Jan 1st, Iowa converted to a new (and mostly fuxed up) software system and there are more horror stories I'll spill later. The OLD title paperwork did not obviously mark 'salvage' or 'damage' under the 'designation' space. All it stated was IL for Illinois. I never suspected salvage and neither did the previous owner (so he says) Arm yourself with some information on it and put up a fight. With enough persuasion they'll have to fix the status of it. Don't let them cause the demise of a numbered car with reasonable potential. It'll be a worthwhile fight in the end. Re: SD 1985 Stripe Part Numbers
Does anyone have an old Mitchell's Body Manual or something similar that body shops used ? Yes, but it doesn't show that particular set of decals in it's listings. I am hoping someone can look up the part numbers of the stripes for my car. Details: 1985 Daytona Turbo Paint: Desert Bronze PE5 (cinnamon color) Stripes are two or three colors (depending where on car) which are orange and red. There is also a Turbo decal on each door. I've already reproduced the large turbo decal for a customers car a while back and I believe he used generic two color pinstriping along the lower section. SD 2005 Decal Sale (last chance)
Only 3 days left on these sale prices. This sale ends on Friday the 21st... Well it's the beginning of a new year and I'd like put out a great offer that will help those out there that will be restoring their 1987 CSX or 1987 Shelby Lancer. Even if you're not quite ready for repainting as of yet this would be a great opportunity to get some needed items at a much lower price. How many times have you envied those proactive individuals out there that were smart enough to gather spare parts while they were still available while others do without later? If you look at the product/price list on www.unleashedbyshelby.com you'll see the regular price for the 1987 CSX body set is 165.00 and the 1987 Shelby Lancer set runs 160.00. For the next 2 weeks (until January 21st) I am going to place them on a temporary sale price to even out some inventory. This sale only applies to these two stripe sets only and all the other decal packages and matching windshield decals remain at their original prices. Take a look at what's listed and you might something else you might need as well. The '87 Shelby CSX would go from 165.00 down to only 130.00. (save 35.00) The '87 Shelby Lancer goes from 160.00 down to only 110.00. (save 50.00) Again this is a very limited time offer, I don't have very many sales since I try to keep all my prices to the most fair, affordable level I possibly can. Despite the constantly increasing cost of production shipping I've only increased prices one time in the last 7 years of being in business. SD Mopar filters for sale (cheap)
A while back I came into a case full of original Mopar air filter elements that may have been a discontinued part. They weren't the regular size ones I was used to that most of my cars use but were a little different shape. They're a little longer and have a separate foam filter attached to one end. I wasn't sure what vehicles they fit but after doing some research at a few local parts stores (and calling a cross reference hotline) I've got most applications figured out. First off the Mopar part number is 04268981. The first cross reference number I found is an STP brand which is SA6576. I believe the Fram number is the same but with a different two letters in front. The Puralator equivalent I found in Advance Auto Parts came up as A14652 (or AF14652) and I found a dusty, beat up one on their shelf and it matched up perfectly. These will fit most of the 1990 to 1992 LeBaron's, Daytona's, Shadow's, Spirit's, etc. with a 2.2 or a 2.5 turbo that have either a C or a J in the 8th digit of the VIN number. These ones I'm describing measure about 4 x 11 vs the other ones that are about 4.5 x 8. They also fit the 1990 model only Caravan/Voyager turbo minivans as well. If your not sure you can see it at http://www.mindspring.com/~shelbydodge/90_92AirFilter.jpg These may be discontinued or getting harder to find elsewhere since I did try to cross reference one in the Fram book at Wal-Mart tonight and they dropped the part number. I've got a bunch of these available and they don't fit anything I drive so I'd like to turn them into some much needed cash (or possibly trade some of them for something). They retail for around 7.00 or 8.00 dollars each so I'd like to get 3.00 for the first one and 2.00 for each additional one purchased and shipped at the same time. Shipping shouldn't be much. I figured somebody out there would be wise enough to stockpile up on a few spares since they're a regular maintenance item everyone needs plus the price is right. You could mail in a payment, use PayPal or I can use my Positive Impressions account to process a credit card payment over the phone. Let me know and I'll set some aside for you. SD Positive Impressions phone problem
Last week there was some changes made to my local telephone account and the phone company mistakenly discontinued forwarding my Positive Impressions phone number (904-388-4040) and put in a disconnected message. It wasn't realized immediately since all my other phone numbers worked perfectly (as I use a dial up modem as well). SD Minivan movie now playing
If you're a early model Dodge minivan fan there's a pretty cheezy movie on the cable channel TNT network right now called The Big Hit. It has a hilarious scene towards the end where the bad guys all drive a pack of Dodge minivans in a big chase scene. Re: SD csx grille reproductions
would anyone be interested in reproduction 88 csx grilles in fiberglass? There would be a significant demand them if they were priced on a reasonable level. The challenge is that they are an intricate design with small thin sections along the headlight buckets that most likely couldn't be replicated in fiberglass. The original grilles are made from injection molded plastic. The same project has been brought up before but I haven't seen any results from any others so far. Actually I'm in need of one myself for my 1987 CSX #172, but for now I'd be happy to find one that's heavily damaged on the passenger side so I can experiment on fusing it together with my original one that has driver's side damage. Anyone got one? Re: SD WTB: '87 Shelby Lancer
I'm looking for an '87 Shelby Lancer in good+ condition, maybe like new or near new condition. Prefer 5 speed with cloth interior. Less than 60K would be great. Re: SD Re: 86 GLHS Omni #002 located
What an AWESOME find Was that the second one built? I have heard they were not always built in numerical order? I'm not sure if it was the 2nd one built since they were built and delivered in random order. But it is one of the first children in the Shelby/Chrysler marriage. Re: SD 86 GLHS Omni #002 located
Fitzgeralds in Laconia, NH got all the #2 cars except the '88 CSX-T. I used to own '89 Shelby Dakota #2 and it was indeed from Fitzgeralds. Good to hear from you Cliff. That's interesting. I wasn't aware they got all the #2's. Is this car still located in the New England area? I know that '87 GLHS #2 is owned by Bill Hazelton in VT and another local guy has '87 CSX #2 still also. He's resides in Pennsylvania and plans to bring it to Carlisle next year. Re: SD VIN Tag
i have a small problem that ive come accross on my daytona R/T. i bought the car used from a scrap yard that was closing because the owners were getting older and didnt want to run the place anymore. but anyways they had some contract with chrysler canada and got all the dealer buy backs and what not. the car i bought has no VIN tag and im not sure if i can put it on the road or sell it. from my understanding the car had some engine troubles and instead of fixing it, the dealer simply bought it back from the owner and scrapped it. when they did this they removed the vin tag and the metal id plate on the upper rad support, as well as the tire id sticker on the door. If they have an agreement with Chrysler it should state in it that they are not allowed to re-sell these vehicles as whole. Hence the reason why they went through all the trouble of removing VIN tags VIN information. Chrysler did not feel that it was financially feasible to continue making warranty repairs on the vehicle so the settled out with the owner, regained ownership to the vehicle and make their choice to destroy (or in this case scrap) the vehicle. The factory wrote it off and the vehicle is never legally allowed to be used as a whole again, as stated before which is the reason why they went through all the trouble of removing VIN tags VIN information. The salvage yard broke their contract by selling it as a whole. It is not legal to title, register or put back on the road. What you have is a parts only car. Once it's parted out it may even be a challenge getting rid of the shell if they notice VIN's are missing. the car is not branded or anything like that and i dont think it was a theft recovery because the ignition cylinder has not appeared to have been tampered with. im afraid that they did this for the exact reason that they didnt want this car back on the road. It may not be do to theft but the factory bought back this vehicle and took specific steps to see that due to serious issues it would not be returned to the road. the car is completely legit except for the VIN tag, id plate, and the door sticker with the tires specs and whatnot. That would be a contradiction in terms, it's not legit without it's VIN tag. You unknowingly purchased something that was not allowed to be sold to you (or returned to the road) and cannot resell it so that someone else can do the same. now if i try to sell this car, whoever comes to look at it sees the absence of the tag and is completly turned off from the deal. Fully understandable. It cannot be legally titled. now my question is: is there any way i can have the VIN Tag, door sticker, and/or ID plate made or where can i get one, keping in mind it is NOT stolen or anything like that and i went and got the ownership with no troubles whatsoever. In extra rare occasions some places will reissue a VIN tag (with a new numbers) for a rare legitimate situation. In your case the salvage yard had no approval to resell it as a whole and most likely if the VIN number is looked up in Chrysler's database for warranty work it'll come back as a written off (salvage only) vehicle. It may not be stolen but there are reasons why they wrote this vehicle off. i think that its just this small detail thats keeping the car from being sold and i really need the cash right now. It's a very crucial detail that changes the whole deal for buying or selling it. Sorry for giving you the bad news but what you have is an expensive parts car. You can be sued if a buyer discovers he cannot register it so your best bet is to part it out to return the investment and remember the lessons learned. Re: SD CSX-T out of retirement
Pulled an '88 CSX-T out to put back on the road. Also the rubber window trim on the front windows is dry rotted and in sad shape. Are the ones from the newer Shadows the same? Nope, the 1987-88 have unique window trim. I learned this from. There are a handful of NOS ones at the dealer but they are expensive. But once they're gone, they're gone. Re: SD Shelby Lancer Hubcaps
I was just looking at an old Shelby Lancer brochure, and noticed that the hubcaps were tiny, round things with the CS logo. Mine are, and always have been, 5-lobed units that partially encircle the lug-nuts. Which are correct? I couldn't find any 5-lobed caps, up here in Worstern Oregon, when I asked at the local Tire Factory. I guess the question should be are the small round caps OK for the Shelby Lancer, or do I need the 5-lobed units to be correct? I'd hate to attend a Cruise-In, and display this brochure, only to find that my hubcaps are incorrect! These were the pre-production prototype pieces used for the photo shoot scheduled far before the regular production pieces were ready. Press photos have to be taken long before the cars are in production so final versions of each piece are not always ready to photograph. One of the only people out there that may actually have one of these prototype center caps is our own SDAC national club president, Barry Goodall since he owns one of the original prototype 1987 Shelby Lancer's used for testing car magazine photo shoots. The rear CS medallion was different as well. If I remember correctly what they used was the plastic portion from their regular version of the Shelby Lancer wheel (which was manufactured and sold in assorted sizes by Carroll Shelby Wheels, Inc. as a model called the CSS). They added in a earlier prototype version of the center medallion which looked rounder like the typical Ford version CS logos. What you've got on there now is correct, all the production models wear the same ones that you have. On a side note be extra careful with the ones you do have, because the plastic portion hasn't been available new in many years and the chrome finish CS center medallion that I reproduced is also out of stock for the time being. However I do have a handful of the goldtone versions left in the same size for only 15.00 each. The plastic fingers that mount them to the rim tend to dry up and become brittle and break off which can cause the center caps to fall off the wheel. Re: SDparts in short supply
GLH and GLHS parts are in short supply and most are NS1 and NS3 (NS3 apparently means discontinued because of low demand. these are parts that were intended to be produced indefinitely unlike an NS1 part) For that matter most any of the performance cars of the Shelby Dodge era. The older is is the worse it gets. The newest L body is now 17 years old. Some of the earliest are over 20 years old and even the most carefully protected, garage kept, one owner cars are starting to show age and wear out certain parts. I'm currently restoring GLHS #087. and its been a bugger getting the simplest parts. like door window wiper seals, hell, any seals for that matter. trim, body pieces, moldings, etc. Being that pieces like this don't effect mechanical operation of a vehicle there are only a limited amount of extra pieces produced. I've been trying to explain for a long time to stock up on consumable parts that could be damaged from an accident (airdams, noses, rust free fenders hoods, etc) plus vehicle specific items that wear out from repeated use or age (rubber seals, weatherstripping plastic moulding pieces). Every passing year there are fewer cars from our era available in salvage yards. I ordered the last few parts in the COUNTRY a few weeks ago and it took my local guy a week to track them down. one came from a dealer in alabama, one in colorado. etc. I've ordered the last available one of numerous Shelby parts in the past and even at dealer price they can still be less expensive that a re-sellers price due to rarity. PLEASE folks. If you know that a car is heading to the crusher, or is available for parts, try your best to make them available. consider really stripping a car bare before letting it go. it could really help people like me. all of us are now in the same boat. god forbid you get into an accident, as I don't know where you will be getting your parts. Same goes for what you see at a local salvage yard (even if you can't personally use it) if it's a clean, hard to find part either grab it up before it gets crushed or at least quickly pass it on to someone else who needs it. You may be able to use it for trading. I still can't find an airdam in good condition. I can relate, I'm still looking for an 87-88 CSX grille in decent shape or at least one that only has damage to the driver side headlite area (so I can combine my old one with it).
