Is colloidal copper mostly "free copper"?

You don't want too much free copper, which can be toxic.

Brewer GJ. Curr Opin Clin Nutr Metab Care. 2008 Nov;11(6):727-32.

The risks of free copper in the body and the development of useful anticopper
drugs.

Abstract

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To review the toxicity and risks of free copper in Wilson's
disease, Alzheimer's disease, other disease of neurodegeneration, and cognitive
loss in the general population. We will also review the anticopper drugs and
how lowering free copper levels with an anticopper drug inhibits fibrosis,
inflammation, and autoimmunity.

RECENT FINDINGS: Some exciting recent work indicates that free copper levels
are increased in Alzheimer's disease, and copper may be involved in disease
pathogenesis, opening the way to possible therapy of Alzheimer's disease with
anticopper drugs. Copper may also be involved in other diseases of
neurodegeneration. A very exciting recent study indicts high intake of copper,
mostly from copper supplements, in conjunction with a high-fat diet in more
rapid cognitive decline in the general population. Other data indicate that
even low levels of copper in drinking water, perhaps similar to copper
supplements, bypasses the liver, enters the circulation, increases the
blood-brain penetration of copper, and may cause damage.

SUMMARY: Some of the implications are that Alzheimer's disease and other
diseases of neurodegeneration and fibrotic, inflammatory, and autoimmune
diseases may be treatable by lowering the availability of free copper. People
in the general population may wish to take steps to lower their free copper
levels and, in particular, to abstain from taking copper supplements and
ingesting significant amounts of copper in drinking water.

Everywhere else in this article -- that's over 60 places --,
"NAg" stands for "nano-silver", for which there are
92 footnotes, and most of those 92 referenced articles were published
"recently".

Rampant use of antibacterial nanosilver is a resistance risk

7:05 March 31, 2017

In summary:

.. Silver nanoparticles are becoming ubiquitous in medical and consumer
items because of their antibacterial potency in small concentrations and,
partly, incorrect perceptions about their safety

.. A more judicious approach and targeted surveillance are urgently needed
to preserve nanosilver's antimicrobial reliability

Researchers at the University of Technology Sydney warn that the broad-spectrum
antimicrobial effectiveness of silver is being put at risk by the widespread
and inappropriate expansion of nanosilver use in medical and consumer goods.

As well as their use in medical items such as wound dressings and catheters,
silver nanoparticles are becoming ubiquitous in everyday items, including
toothbrushes and toothpaste, baby bottles and teats, bedding, clothing and
household appliances, because of their antibacterial potency and the incorrect
assumption that ordinary items should be kept "clean" of microbes.

Nanobiologist Dr Cindy Gunawan, from the ithree institute at UTS and lead
researcher on the investigation, said alarm bells should be ringing at the
commercialisation of nanosilver use because of a "real threat" that resistance
to nanosilver will develop and spread through microorganisms in the human body
and the environment.

Dr Gunawan and ithree institute director Professor Liz Harry, in collaboration
with researchers at UNSW and abroad, investigated more than 140 commercially
available medical devices, including wound dressings and tracheal and urinary
catheters, and dietary supplements, which are promoted as immunity boosters and
consumed by throat or nasal spray.

Their perspective article in the journal ACS Nano concluded that the use of
nanosilver in these items could lead to prolonged exposure to bioactive silver
in the human body. Such exposure creates the conditions for microbial
resistance to develop.

The use of silver as an antimicrobial agent dates back centuries. Its ability
to destroy pathogens while seemingly having low toxicity on human cells has
seen it widely employed, in treating burns or purifying water, for example.
More recently, ultra-small (less than 10,000th of a millimetre) silver
nanoparticles have been engineered for antimicrobial purposes. Their
commercial appeal lies in superior potency at lower concentrations than "bulk"
silver.

"Nanosilver is a proven antimicrobial agent whose reliability is being
jeopardised by the commercialisation of people's fear of bacteria," Dr Gunawan
said.

"Our use of it needs to be far more judicious, in the same way we need to
approach antibiotic usage. Nanosilver is a useful tool but we need to be
careful, use it wisely and only when the benefit outweighs the risk.

"People need to be made aware of just how widely it is used, but more
importantly they need to be made aware that the presence of nanosilver has been
shown to cause antimicrobial resistance."

What is also needed, Dr Gunawan said, is a targeted surveillance strategy to
monitor for any occurrence of resistance.

Professor Harry said the findings were a significant contribution to addressing
the global antimicrobial resistance crisis.

"This research emphasises the threat posed to our health and that of the
environment by the inappropriate use of nanosilver as an antibacterial,
particularly in ordinary household and consumer items," she said.

The article Widespread and Indiscriminate Nanosilver Use: Genuine Potential for
Microbial Resistance is published in the journal ACS Nano.

Size- and Dose-Dependent Antiviral Effects of Silver Nanoparticles

NCTR scientists have demonstrated both size- and dose-dependent antiviral
effects of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in in vitro assays using feline
calicivirus (FCV) as a surrogate for human norovirus. Treatment of cultures
with 10 nanometer (nm)-sized AgNPs (at doses of 50 and 100 micrograms per
milliliter [µg/mL]) completely inactivated FCV within 2-4 hours of exposure,
resulting in a decrease in the viral titer, an absence of cytopathic effects in
Crandell-Rees Feline Kidney cells, and a reduction in viral capsid protein
levels; whereas no effect was observed with 75 and 110 nm-sized AgNPs. The use
of AgNPs as antibacterial agents has increased in consumer-use products;
however, its use as an antiviral agent is still an area of active research.
This study is now available online at Foodborne Pathogens and Disease:

Dose and Size-Dependent Antiviral Effects of Silver Nanoparticles on Feline
Calicivirus, a Human Norovirus Surrogate

Aschalew Z. Bekele, Kuppan Gokulan, Katherine M. Williams, and Sangeeta Khare

ABSTRACT

Objectives: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) as antibacterial agents are
incorporated in many consumer products, while the use as antiviral agents is an
ongoing area of research. We evaluated the antiviral properties of AgNPs of
variable sizes (10, 75, and 110 nm) and doses (25, 50, and 100 µg/mL) at
different contact time points against feline calicivirus (FCV), a surrogate for
norovirus.

Materials and Methods: Antiviral effects of the AgNPs were determined by
comparing the infectivity of FCV, the appearance of cytopathic effects (CPEs),
and the integrity of the viral capsid protein in viral suspension treated with
AgNPs with the untreated controls.

Results: The 10 nm AgNPs at 50 and 100 µg/mL concentrations inactivated the FCV
beyond the limit of detection, resulting in a decrease of up to 6.5 log10 viral
titer, prevented development of CPEs, and reduction in the western blot band
signal of the viral capsid protein. No significant antiviral effect was
observed for the 75 and 110 nm AgNPs.

Conclusions and Applications: These results demonstrate that the antiviral
effects of AgNPs are both size and dose dependent, thus potential applications
of AgNPs as antiviral agents to prevent contamination of foodborne viruses need
to consider size and dose effects.

I mostly brush my teeth with diluted Atomidine, from Heritage. That's iodine
trichloride, 600 mcg per drop, and it's clear (completely colorless). I make a
batch using 40-50 drops per quart of water, that lasts about 25 days... My
dentist wondered why my gums had stopped bleeding (10 years ago) and I told her
I brushed with iodine. She said that was a good idea because iodine removes
'biofilms' (she said that's why doctors wash with iodine for surgery
preparation), and she said I should keep using it.

By the way, someone keeps saying that nickel is toxic. Its not.
However if nickel is heated in the presence of Carbon Monoxide
it will form NICKEL TETRACARBONYL (Ni CO4) which is extremely
toxic, however this liquid has a high vapour pressure and the
vapour is carried away by the carbon monoxide. Usually the
vapour is passed over a hot surface and it decomposes back into
metallic nickel and carbon monoxide and recycled. We are not
very likely to be meeting with NI CO4.

 Bob,

I just searched through my files for 'nickel'.

Regarding nickel tetracarbonyl, actually we are likely to encounter
this toxic substance that you describe as carried away by carbon
monoxide. Tobacco smoke (and auto exhaust) contains both nickel
and carbon monoxide, thus tobacco smoke (and auto exhaust) contains
some unhealthy amount of toxic nickel tetracarbonyl. Inhaled
nickel accumulates in the lungs and has been associated with
increased rates of lung, nasal, and laryngeal cancers.

As for nickel being toxic or not, it all depends on 1) the degree
of exposure and 2) the state of immune activation to this heavy
metal. Although I haven't collected any Medline references I read
that nickel is a known carcinogen. However, food contains ultra-
trace levels of nickel, and 'organic' nickel (from vegetables,
grains, beans, and nuts) likely does help to maintain health.

Nickel allergy can cause local skin or systemic reactions. The
nickel in jewelry, dental materials, or prosthetic joints or heart
valves (stainless steel) may also be allergenic sources.

The EPA lists nickel as a toxic waste (even non-radioactive nickel)
if it comes from industrial processes, but not if it comes from
vegetation. The EPA names nickel in its list of the 100 most toxic
and hazardous chemicals found at Superfund (toxic waste) sites.

Below are quotes extracted from various sources.

Another 'side-effect' of hydrogenation is that a residue of
toxic metals, usually nickel and aluminium, is left behind in
the finished product. These metals are used as catalysts in
the reaction, but they accumulate in our cells and nervous
system where they poison enzyme systems and alter cellular
functions, endangering health and causing a wide variety of
problems. These toxic metals are difficult to eliminate
without special detoxification techniques [EDTA chelation],
and our 'toxic load' increases steadily with small exposures
over time. Since they are increasingly found in our air, food
and water, the cumulative doses can add up to dangerous levels
 over time.

Joyce,

Be careful with the coil. Vinegar will clean it, but there
is another potential problem. Bob Lee just reported that
Nichrome (the heating element) is 80% nickel (toxic!).

I don't know, but the 'burnt taste' could even be the taste
of nickel, if the distiller is letting some of the minerals
through, without removing them all. Maybe that's what a
homeopathic dose of nickel tastes like (to you).

This problem should pass after using the distiller for some
time, as the heating coil will become covered with mineral
deposits boiled out of the tap water.

Therefore, I would presume it's best not to clean the coil
from now on, no matter how encrusted it becomes.
Unfortunately, distillers need cleaning, and the coil gets
cleaned in the process

I know my hair tested much higher for nickel after using a
distiller for several years. (I stopped using a distiller
due to the steam and humidity problem that accelerates the
indoor growth of mold, fungus, and dust mites)

You could try letting your distiller run for ten or twenty
hours and throw away the 'burnt' distilled water produced,
and then try tasting the next batch.

Good luck.

But when I poured the 50:50 mixture through the coil of my Sears

If nothing else works, I may get a carbon-filter water pitcher

single type of light bulb and just line up a few sources for it?

 Mike,

From the recent discussions, I've gathered that the bulb actually
does not function as a current limiter, because 25 or 40 milliamps
(allowed by the commonly available small bulbs) is too high of a
current to produce 'desirable' CS production. (The bulb does
serve to indicate remaining battery strength, and to limit battery
drain in case of an electrode short circuit.)

Reports indicate that the desired smaller sized CS particles are
produced when using lower currents. So far, 8 milliamps seems to
be approximately the maximum desired current. I'm inferring
 this from the following:

Please note this was done using 36 vdc:
   7-13-98, George wrote:

When the current reached approx. 3.0 ma the wispy discharge
would become apparent. From this point on the current would
increase at a quicker rate due of course to the increased
conductivity of the CS solution. When the current read
8.0 - 10.0 ma I noticed something different occur. In
addition to the CS 'floating' around in the vicinity of the
electrodes there was also a rather thick 'stream' of CS that
was sinking to the bottom of the container.

I've thought of a simple current limiting design. It uses 2 or 3
pairs of electrodes configured with one center anode, surrounded
by a circle of 3, 4, or 5 cathodes wired in parallel to the anode.

The battery output will be limited to 25 milliamps, by feeding it
through 2 or 3 of the 12v x 25 ma bulbs wired in series, to handle
either 24-27 or 36 vdc. (Radio Shack bulbs, part number 272-1141A)

The parallel circuit, per-cathode current will thus be limited to
 a maximum of 1/3, 1/4, or 1/5 of the bulb's 25 ma -- that is: 8.33,
6.25, or 5.0 milliamps. The smallest CS particle size would then
be obtained by using the 6-electrode (5-cathode) design with only
 5 ma per cathode.

Note: With multiple cathodes, increasing the center anode surface
area may additionally improve the production of the smaller sized
CS particles. This is a reason to test the results of using larger
sized .999+ silver coins and ingots, or a longer length of silver
 wire(s) for a center anode.

For that matter, why not try a (nickel free) stainless steel sleeve
about 3 inches in diameter by 5 inches long (submerged length) for
a cathode, with a large silver (several coins in a row?) anode
positioned along the vertical center line of the cylinder. This
would distribute the current flow over a relatively huge area, and
perhaps rapidly produce the smallest of CS particles.

access to electron microscopy, or a similar accurate test.
(How much does a surplus electron microscope sell for ?)

Of course, the purity issue is a third parameter involved.

 --
Another problem is knowing the exact state the silver is in
when you're weighing it. Is it pure silver? Silver oxide?
 []

Which brings us to the *other* possibility, which is an
entirely chemical assay that uses pH or some other
characteristic with reagents and an indicator to standardize
and visualize the reaction and allow you to measure the
 silver present by quantity required.

With regards to 'purity', some types of analytical chemistry
testing should be able to determine which types of silver
compounds are present. (Some type of spectrography should
work, also.) If several silver compounds are present
(mixed together), there is also the issue of the need(?)
for determining the amounts (ppm) of each.

I believe it should be a priority to find a CS production
protocol to minimize or entirely eliminate any unwanted
compounds, regardless of their characteristics -- while
being able to do a simple check of the 'overall' CS purity.

Then we'd be able to do our two main tests for CS ppm and
(the range of) CS particle sizes.

 --
If anyone knows a chemist who could help us with that it
could save us a lot of effort.

Maybe Bruce Marx i...@csprosystems.com would be willing
to share some insights from his experiences in testing his
HVAC colloidal silver. He has some useful info at:
  http://csprosystems.com/TechNotespg.htm

We could collect a concise list of questions for Bruce.

 --Bill

So here are some ideas. If I've convinced you an in-house
ppm test would be useful, I hope you'll help me get one of
these ideas working, or suggest another.

 Be well,

 Mike D.

Hi George,

Thanks for your advice. I wonder what brands of CS you and

Do you know what kinds of testing are done to test your CS ?

How much CS, and of what concentration, do you use to
hold prostate cancer in check ? Is it effective against
a virus or bacteria that causes or aggravates p.c. ?

I hear it is difficult to get sufficient antibiotics into the
prostate due to limited blood flow. This limited blood flow

into a periapical abscess (or root canal infection), so your
answer to the last two questions may help to indicate how much
CS to try using for a jaw infection.

 Reversing the electrodes will help
them to disolve at a more equal rate, but you would have to
stop the process and switch them every minute or so to have a
chance at keeping the buildup off, and I'm not too sure that
would work or even be a good idea.

Why stop the process, when a timer chip could switch electrode
polarity automatically, as used in Bob Beck's circuit ? And if
you wanted to try it manually, you could use a DPDT switch.

If you did build a 'Beck device', did you use it to make CS ?
If yes, did the electrodes stay 'cleaner' ?

 What would you be making
if you had some of the black buildup on both electrodes???

How do you know there would be _any_ black buildup -- the
reversal of polarity might 'unbuild' the black buildup,
molecule by molecule, while you relax. All I'm suggesting
is that nobody seems to have investigated, or at least
reported, on this.

And even if there was some amount of black buildup on two
electrodes, there still may be significant advantages.
(Is there a reason it should be hazardous to have silver
oxide on two electrodes, rather than only one ?)

It seems possible that some of the gray silver particles which
collect on the cathode would be quickly converted to CS, each
time the cathode switched and became the anode -- thus improving
the net efficiency of CS production by up to several hundred
percent.

Likewise, the black silver oxide on the 'anode' (now cathode)
might be rapidly converted into CS plus H2O.

Thus leaving both electrodes relatively 'clean'.

Seems worth a try. I'd like to see test results to compare
the resulting CS vs. 'standard' CS.

Also, I always stir my water just before putting the
electrodes in. This will keep the water moving for a long time.

Re: CS chemistry

1998-07-16 Thread Bill Kingsbury
 Doug,

Spectrographic analysis might be one way to determine of the
amount of silver oxide present in CS.

I wonder if there is more production of silver oxide in the
high-voltage CS systems, where a lowering of pH has been
observed (see message from 6-28-98, below).

pH measurements are useful, since any consumption of oxygen
(producing silver oxide) could leave behind a relative surplus
of hydrogen -- thus lowering the pH. I don't think we can
assume that the small bubbles (observed during CS production)
all immediately rise to the surface, thus taking 100% of the
dissociated hydrogen and oxygen 'out of the picture'.

I'd be interested to learn if ozone (O3) can be smelled exiting
a high-voltage CS system -- possibly indicating that hydrogen
peroxide is also present, dissolved in (acidic?) CS liquid.

I read that ordinarily, CS and hydrogen peroxide should not be
used together. Then, what are the long term effects on CS
(and on it's effects), if the CS is produced containing hydrogen
peroxide. Would it rapidly turn into colloidal silver-oxide (CSO) ?

Is CSO useful, as long as it's a colloid ? Or, is CSO the final
product, after the antibiotic potential has been expended ? Can
we measure the 'bioactive potential' of CS, by quantifying the
CS/CSO ratio ? Is the CS/CSO ratio a factor of the pH ?

 I don't know the facts, but I'm picturing a 0.010 micron colloidal
silver particle as 1) containing perhaps 10,000 to 100,000 silver
atoms, 2) having a net positive charge, and 3) being (in some
cases) partially or entirely coated with silver- oxide molecules,
therefore appearing and acting as 'colloidal silver-oxide' (CSO).

CSO may be harmless(?) to higher life forms, but entirely
useless(?) as an antibiotic, although stomach acid could perhaps
turn it into ionic or dissolved silver (but stomach acid should not
be an issue if consumed on an empty stomach).

Can anyone supply any corrections or additions to the above ?

Producing a pulsed DC CS generator supply is quite simple; a basic 555
timer astable circuit will produce more power than needed. Parts can be
less than $25.00, including either a battery holder, or an AC plug in
power supply; all available at Radio Shack. The 555 timer chip will
tolerate up to 18 volts, which was a guideline in my early
experimenting.

If there's enough interest, I'll post a circuit diagram on my website
for a 12 to 18 volt powered pulsed DC CS generator. If there's enough
interest, I'll produce a PC board, parts list, and instructions for
around $12.00. With enough interest, a full kit could be made available
fairly reasonably. Generating your own quality CS doesn't have to be
expensive!

Let me know if anyone's interested; times are busy, but we can make it
happen if there's an expressed interest. Otherwise, the circuit will sit
on the 'back burner' for a while longer...

Currently Preferred Silver Colloid Making Apparatus, Means and Method

For information and educational purposes only, not medical advice.
 Copyright 1993 Robert C. Beck, D.Sc. Revision 28 February 1997

To easily and rapidly make unlimited quantities of good quality
silver colloid concentrate for ~1 cents per gallon (plus water
costs) you'll need three 9 volt type MN1604 regular alkaline
transistor radio batteries, three battery snap-on lead connectors,
 2 insulated alligator clips, 1 grain-of-wheat 24 volt 40 mA sub
miniature incandescent bulb, a foot of 3/32 heat-shrink insulation
tubing, 10 pure silver wire, and a foot of 2-conductor stranded
insulated wire for clip-leads. This should cost under $20 maximum
for everything and take about 35 minutes to assemble from scratch.
This design is idiot proof and simple to use. It makes an
odorless, tasteless, colorless fast and powerful antiseptic and one
of the most remarkable healing agents known. The entire colloid
making process takes about three minutes per 8 OZ batch for ~3 ppm
laboratory tested concentration at room temperature.

Use three snap-on connector clips for the batteries. Solder them
in series (red to black) to provide 27 volts. Connect a 24 volt
incandescent lamp in series with either (positive or negative)
output lead. Solder a red insulated alligator clip to the positive
(anode) and a black insulated clip to the negative (cathode)
2-conductor lead wires. Insulation is shrunk over soldered
connections using a heat gun or match. Use ONLY pure silver (.999
fine) electrodes. #14 gauge (AWG) is the preferred size. Pure silver
is sometimes available at electroplating supply companies,
foundries, precious metals dealers, etc. Do NOT use Sterling
silver (.9275 or other) since Sterling contains copper and nickel.
Nickel can be toxic. WARNING Sterling is sometimes passed off for
electrodes with commercial colloid makers through ignorance or by
entrepreneurs who are trying to cut corners and save money. Discard
them as hazardous. Use only triple distilled or de-ionized water for
injectable colloid. Single distilled water makes the best
transparent colloids BUT its higher resistance takes up to half an
hour to make a 5 ppm concentration. Tap water is O.K. for most other
uses but contains chlorine which may produce some AgCl which is
harmless but gives a mirky appearance as will any salt (NaCl) which
 should be avoided.

Bend top ends of silver electrode wires to clip over rim of plastic
or glass container. Leave about 4 inches of bare electrodes
submergible in the working solution (water). Spacing between
electrodes is not critical. There is no on-off switch, so process
starts immediately when alligator clips are both attached to
submerged wires, however most commercial colloid makers do have
switches which must be on when using. Process stops when either or
both clips are disconnected. If bulb glows visibly, proceed and let
current flow for about three minutes then remove clips, stir, and
you are done. If bulb doesn't light or you see only a faint reddish
glow, proceed longer. Do not add any salt. You may observe
smoke-like plumes of pure white ultra fine grain silver against a
dark background as colloid electrolytically sinters off the anode
(positive polarity side of battery; red lead) and drifts into
solution. Stir thoroughly before using or storing and shake each
time before using. Three minutes activation of ~8 OZ of properly
conductive water at ~72F gives ~3 ppm (parts per million) strength.
Each additional 10 degrees F, will double ppm for a given time.
Yield also depends on water conductivity, surface area of
electrodes, amount of current, and time. ~3 minutes makes a stock
solution which can be safely used full strength for anything. But
its best to charge water by itself and add this to other foods or
liquids as desired or drink it directly. Overdosing with any amount
is considered unlikely for metallic Colloid, but silver PROTEINS can
be harmful, toxic, and stain skin (Argyria).

Colloidal or Ionic -- or Dissolved ?

1998-07-13 Thread Bill Kingsbury

Peter Lindemann's info (see below) clears up the question
Colloidal or Ionic? -- but how do we know if there is
dissolved silver (DS) in CS ?

Is it possible to dissolve pure silver in distilled water ?

Is there always some DS in properly made CS ?

Is consuming too much dissolved silver unhealthy ?

Is dissolved silver present in CS only, or primarily,
when made using certain methods ?

Do certain CS production methods produce excessively
high levels of dissolved silver ?

Does the level of DS increase over time, as CS ages ?

Does the 'rate of conversion' to DS accelerate when CS is
exposed to certain types of electric or magnetic fields,
 or heat, etc. ?

When testing CS, is there a simple method to determine if
 dissolved silver is present ?

When testing CS, is there a simple method to accurately
 quantify dissolved silver levels ?

  Colloidal or Ionic?

Another big controversy surrounds the question of whether this
method produces colloidal silver or ionic silver. Most people
have been told that colloidal silver is good and ionic silver is
bad. Once again, the truth might be unpopular. The word
colloidal refers to a condition where, in this case, a solid
particle is SUSPENDED in a liquid (silver in water). The solid
particles are too large to be considered DISSOLVED, but are too
small to be filtered out. This colloidal condition is most easily
detected by what is called the Tyndall effect, where a narrow
beam of light is shined through the liquid to produce a cone shaped
dispersion of the light. The particles so illuminated also exhibit
a random, zig-zag activity called Brownian motion when observed
under a microscope. When something is completely dissolved, both
the Brownian and Tyndall effects disappear.

The word ionic refers to a condition where a particle has an
electric charge. In the case of electro-colloidal silver, this
electric charge is ALWAYS positive. Silver will not form a
negatively charged ion. So, the truth is that electro-colloidal
silver is BOTH colloidal and ionic. It is considered colloidal
because of the particle SIZE and it is considered ionic because of
the particle CHARGE. In fact, most of the biological studies
suggest it is colloidal silver's ionic characteristics that make it
such a good germicide. It is also interesting to note that the old
chemistry books make no distinction between the colloidal and ionic
 states of the electro-colloidal metals.

1998-07-13 Thread Bill Kingsbury

Chuck,

Thanks for clarifying the purposes of the bulb. The basic
question, however, is still looking for an answer:

Does anyone know how to design a 5 mA current regulator ?
 (Any references or ideas appreciated.)

As Mike wrote:

 That's what I would try.

I've long thought that current limiting schemes of various sort
would emerge as the best strategy once we start to really study
 the process.

Any clues ?

This is Marsha's husband replying. My name is Chuck Hallett and my
profession is Electrical Engineering. I am writing to hopefully describe
the purpose of the light bulb in the silver generator circuit.

The primary purpose of the bulb is to limit current in the event the
electrodes touch each other (short circuit).

When the wires touch, or your alligator clips touch, the current in the
batteries and the wires is limited only by the internal resistance of the
batteries and the connecting wires. Electrical Current generates heat.
Lots of current generates lots of heat. Try this, take a single
nine volt
battery (a used but not totally dead one) and connect a spare
alligator clip
lead to each terminal. You should notice the wire getting anything from
warm to hot enough to melt the insulation.

The bulb limits the current to 40 milliamps which is a reasonable
amount of
current for the battery circuit, and far below what the colloidal silver
process will use.

If the leads short together, at best, your batteries ($4.95 retail each)
will quickly discharge and you'll be out buying new ones. At worst
the heat
generated could cause the wires to melt, and at an extreme, cause a fire.

Why a 28 volt 40 milliamp lamp? Answer: Economies of supply.

28 volts because we don't want the bult to burn out if we short the wires
together. When this happens all you've done is closed the switch on
what is
now the equivalent of a flashlight. If a smaller voltage bulb
were used,
it would glow very brightly for a short period of time and burn
out. Then
it would act like a blown fuse, i.e. no silver generation until replaced
with a new bulb.

40 milliamps because it is a reasonable limiting value for the
circuit and
more importantly it is a commonly available bulb (at Radio Shack anyway).
Just like the light bulbs you put in your lamps, these small lamps
come in
standard sizes. You can get different sizes which would work, but
they are
harder to get and much more expensive.

Lastly the bulb serves as a battery condition indicator.

The bulb serves no purpose in the silver generation process, it is only
there for the reasons stated, and you can make a perfectly functioning
generator without the bulb, by connecting the silver electrodes
directly to
the batteries. You just run the risk of running your batteries down
quickly. If you are worried about a fire, either make sure nothing
combustible is near the batteries wire, or don't do it.

I hope this sheds some light (pun intended) on the situation. Direct all
flames to me at w7...@usa.net

 Bill, Bob,

I have a hunch that the low pH is caused by electrolysis. The high
voltage is breaking the water into hydrogen and oxygen. Then the

Sounds like the HVAC method may have some flaws, and the results

all three. (I'll paste in some of my previous posts :)

I use a 12000 volt ac transformer with the following specs:
 Primary: 240 v - 1.65 amp
 Secondary: 12000 v - 30 milliamp
 50 Hz, 360 VA

This unit is used by neon display companies to power the tubes in the

9000, 1 and 12000 volt, all 30 milliamp. This is according to a guy
 at a neon sign manufacturer.

The transformer measures 225 mm long, 95 mm wide and 130 mm high. It
weighs just under 10 kg and is made in Hong Kong - ah so! :

I connect a multimeter in series with the live wire and leave it so as
to monitor input current for the whole duration of a typical 4 hour run.
I first measured the current with the transformer under no load, no
wires connected at the secondary terminals and it drew a constant 0.16
 amp.

I use a one liter glass beaker. I will upgrade this to 2 liter shortly.
I have a piece of plastic - gray stuff in-between nylon and hard
plastic - that I machined on a lathe to fit securely on the top of the
beaker. You don't want anything to move around at 12000 volt! It is
about 7 mm thick and 11 mm in diameter. It has two ventilation slots on
 top.

The electrode configuration is almost exactly the same as the Bruce Marx
setup. Warren was kind enough to measure his setup on the HVAC Ultra.
I'll just paste in his very detailed description. (Thanks again
Warren.)

 -start paste-

The way my CSPro Ultra is set up, there is a bar of silver which is
about 1.5 millimeters thick and about 10 by 2 1/2 centimeters. It is
suspended by two copper wires hanging down from a female banana plug in
the plastic top of the plastic container where the CS is produced. The
silver bar hangs horizontally from the two copper wires in the form of
an inverted v terminating in bent ends like the letter j passing
through two holes drilled in the upper edge of the silver bar. The bar
hangs in the water up to a millimeter or so from the copper wires. In
other words, the vast majority of the silver bar is hanging in the
distilled water almost to the level of the two holes which are drilled
near the top of the bar.

On the plastic top to each side of the banana plug terminal for the bar
at about 3 and 1/2 centimeters is found another female banana plug
terminal. A copper wire connects these two terminals. One of the female
banana plugs is filled with plastic so nothing plugs into it. Suspended
from each is copper wire that is formed into a one centimeter coil (to
allow adjustment) and then terminates in another j . A short (about 2
1/2 centimeter) twisted piece of silver wire with an eye hangs on each
copper j wire and is set at about 1 or 2 millimeters from the surface
of the distilled water (These hang on each side of the hanging bar).
When the unit is set up with the cables from the machine plugged into
the top of the water container and all clearances are correct (silver
bar in the distilled water all but a couple of millimeters, twisted
silver wires a couple of millimeters from the top of the water) then I
am ready to turn on the power. At that time, if I have good

CS for MS - MS may be infectious in nature

1998-05-25 Thread Bill Kingsbury

Colloidal silver is possibly useful for treating MS:

CS may be an effective treatment for Multiple Sclerosis, since
(at least some) MS has reportedly been found to be infectious
 in nature:

 1) MS has been found to be caused by Chlamydia pneumonia.

 2) In other studies, MS has been found to be a spirochetal disease
like Lyme Disease.

 Below are some references.

 --Bill

 P.S.--

MS can be caused by a vitamin B12 deficiency or a B12 blockage
which can be caused by B12 analogues (inactive forms of B12).
B12 analogues can be produced by certain micro-organisms, and
at least hypothetically, these could colonize the human digestive
tract. CS could possibly control any such organisms.

Note: Spirulina algae, often used as a food, also contains
B12 analogues, and if consumed frequently, may eventually be
unhealthy, even for people who don't have MS. Although the
body normally stores up to a five year's supply of vitamin B12,
analogues may block the use of these stores -- thus a normal
B12 blood test could be misleading. Blood tests for detecting
B12 analogues are rarely done, except in research projects.

The coenzyme forms of vitamin B12 will probably circumvent any
B12 analogue blockages. The coenzyme forms of B12 are the
methyl-, hydroxo-, and S-adenosyl- cobalamins. B12 injections
also may circumvent B12 analogue blockages.

This makes sense, considering the theory that hair-loss is
infectious in nature, (usually?) due to fungus or mites living
 in the hair follicles.

There was a news-slot on CBS channel 2, around six weeks ago,
regarding the purported discovery of the root-cause of hair loss.
I missed it, but I saw the two-second preview shot -- of a
wiggly mite, somehow clearly filmed in a hair follicle.

Does anyone have more info ? I tried looking on their web
page: www.channel2000.com , but there was nothing there, at
 that time.

There was a special on PBS TV (Nova ?) on mites earlier this
year. The largest mites (in humans) are found in the eye-lash
follicles, and they are found in pores and follicles everywhere
on the body -- unless you take peroxide baths often, I guess.

Or colloidal silver baths... Yes, a CS hair rinse makes sense.

CS in the washing machine might make sense, also, since mites
live in clothing and bedding -- where ever there's (dead) human
skin flakes (or dandruff). Pillows and mattresses are the most
mite- populated places. Would a CS pillow- spray work ?

Dust mites, naturally, live on dust, but most dust is purported
to be human skin flakes. 'Mite control' is important for those
with allergies and asthma, since mites (and mite feces) are a
 MAJOR allergy trigger.

Hi All,

You can find Mark Metcalf's two excellent articles posted on
his web site (they were also published in Perceptions Magazine).

See:

Also see: http://www.silversolutions.com --for other practical
information about making your own colloidal silver.

By the way, does the Silver-List have archives of past messages ?
How does one access the archives ?

 Article is information packed.
 thanks mike slivinski

Hang on to those articles. We should see if we can get the
publisher's permission to post them to our web site. We'll at least
mention them in the massive bibliography we're compiling, right? g

Be well,
