Also, bromelain, an enzyme derived from the pineapple plant, is purported to make antibiotics work more effectively. You can buy bromelain fairly cheaply and take it in divided doses with water (on a fairly empty stomach is best). I would take up to 3,000 units a day, and back down possibly to 500 units 3 times a day. The dose isn't that critical, just take enough... Works to reduce inflammation and bruising too. If you are unable to, then find another family member or friend that will be supportive. Someone who will not offer advice but be there as a go for. Greetings, Moore Family! The spider bite idea is likely not correct. It sounds like you have acquired CA-MRSA. THIS is assuming that you are correct when you state that the infection is actually MRSA. Has your doctor actually had the bacteria cultured? If it is CA-MRSA, then your doctor needs to wake up, as this type of infection is treateable with antibiotics, but not the ones he's prescribed to date. If it is CA-MRSA, then the spread of this infection needs to stop. Your doctor should have immediately done a risk assessment, and then even considered doing a quick vector analysis. WHile CA-MRSA is susceptible to rifampin, it is obvious that the regime is not actually eliminating the infection. What your brilliant doctor is thus doing is encouraging an even MORE aggressive strain of MRSA to develop. If this is CA-MRSA, then a specialist needs to consider using clindamycin and vancomycin. Topical Mupirocin has also been used, in conjunction with the right dosages of the right antibiotics, effectively. However, I do not know how far you will get with the MD's. You may need to get a bit more aggressive with them. If you do not find satisfaction, then you are welcome to email me off list, and I would be glad to assist your family with strategies in eliminating the infection through alternative methods. Jason is correct. When I had MRSA the doctor prescribed a two-week course of Duricef (Cefadroxil). When it returned, I found that a shot of Vancomycin (in my butt) actually jump started the next round of antibiotics - Doxycycline. I used CS the whole time, and still do, which I believe helped clear any leftovers. But a culture (usually taken from the nostrils) must be done in order to find out what antibiotics are resistant and which are not. Hope that helps. Hi, Tim, This is a good place to ask. There are lots of people making lots of claims, but beware of those that claim that only their product will work- silver can be a cure all of sorts, in any nearly any form, but there are some that can under certain circumstances, be not so good for long term use. Things to stay away from include any silver salts, as these can accumulate faster than the body can excrete them. Normally, ionic silver will not do that, unless consumed for extended lenghs of time at very high quantities. Don't fall for the size arguments, as any ion is probably nano sized- there is no smaller unit of measurement for an element than an ion.
