been able to use my computer, and I wouldn't have been able to
communicate with all you wonderful folks on the list would I? So maybe
it wasn't so off topic after all grin dee

You are getting wiser by the day. grin

I have 3 computers, all within reach, .. they all work
perfect and access the internet.

You need at least 2, or 3 is better.

One is a super laptop, I use very little. but it is ready for duty,
like a good soldier.

I have 3 or 4 older ones, they all work too.

Never give up. You will be a techie one day.

Then if will be your turn to teach us a few things.

frustration.. I only came back because I finally purchased a
silver puppy and thought I might have questions or learn from others'

I think it would kind of ironic if the people who signed up to learn
about and share about CS went away in frustration while those posting
about other topics stayed and dominated the list..

2008-08-23 Thread Hanneke

Hi all,

This will be my last post before I un-subscribe.
It appears that a number of people are unaware of how and when to
use the off topic list, and also unaware of many general health
support groups available on the internet. As a result the silver
list, a pretty specific subject all in itself, is overloaded with
posts. The only thing missing now is posts on how to make a nice
cuppa and detailed knitting patterns.

On other topic specific lists, any off topic posts are considered spam.

Wishing everyone all the best and good health.

Hanneke

I understand where you are all coming from .. but personally, I enjoy this
list immensely ... if something is off topic, click it off, you don't have
to read it. Honestly, I have learned more on this list than on other lists
that are subject specific. I enjoy the information that is presented, where
it
be CS specific or other. I think the people on this list are very
intelligent and present subjects with more ability and foresight than most
other lists
to which I have subscribed. Please keep on doing what you are doing .. I
am enjoying this list ..

Thank you,

I do feel that this is a shame because you have always had such a
positive and helpful input Hanneke. I must say that I have not noticed
the silver list being overloaded with posts at all, indeed, I thought
that that was why the other topics were being posted. I personally
don't like the off topic list as it gets very confrontational which this
list almost never has before, therefore I apologize to all whom it has
offended, for posting about my computer problems. dee

I wasn't offended at all by your posts about your computer problems, Dee. I simply skimmed through them and then hit the delete button as they weren't pertinent for me. I also wasn't offended by Kurt's posts either (although I think they're mostly paranoid -- sorry Kurt). I think it's normal for any group of people to drift into conversations other than on-topic, if said topic happens to be stagnant at the moment. Be pretty hard to legislate against human nature. Also, that's what God made the *delete* button for (uh-oh -- does that make this a religious post? LOL) As long as the off-topic posts are related to health issues (well, even the computer post was related to health -- your mental health Dee, right?)I don't think they're out of line as long as they don't go on forever. As far as new people are concerned, well if I was recommending this list to someone, I would probably forewarn them that off-topic stuff does come up once in awhile. Perhaps that could be mentioned in a *welcome letter* to new members, Mike, if such a thing exists. I think that only a complete skeptic (to CS), or an absolute newbie to the concept of internet chat groups (does such a person exist?) would blow off an internet group because of off-topic or odd posts. And I think it's sad that intelligent people who are members of this list would be willing to leave because the list isn't performing in the way that they'd like. Personally, I'm willing to ignore a lot of *crap* in order to read the occasional valuable nugget of information that I'd otherwisenot have access to. JMHO, of course.

Mike has stated repeatedly that he wishes the list to stay on the topic of CS.
He doesn't mind if other topics are mentioned briefly when the list is quiet.
But Kurt seems to have major grievances and I understand tht he is upset.
However, Kurt seems to use the list to mainly post grievances and not about CS.
