I don't know what happened. Below is the complete message/question.

I brought up the VMS V4.7 + VWS 3.2 software as per Tony's recent

It is running quite nicely on my Windows10/Cygwin laptop. DEClander
brings back sweet memories :-)

However, I'm struggling with keyboard mapping in the Workstation
environment. The VWS software only lmows about VT220 and TEK4010
terminals. I'm using a PC-style keyboard on the laptop. I cannot find
a way to insert the proper mapping into the software environmet.

puTTY/VT102 works as always when I connect to a DZ/DH terminal.
DECwindows (on VMS 7.x) also allows me to get the mapping right.

That I cannot use the VWS VT220 emulator for text editing is one
thing, but to fly a DEClander without proper controls is appalling!

What am I missing?

There is absolutely no need to be stuck with a tight fit. The RQ disks
simulated
on the MicroVAX2 simulator can be any size. VMS doesn't care one way or
another.

A few years back I managed to image VWS V3.2 from an old TK50
distribution tape and successfully installed it under VAX/VMS V4.7
using SIMH microvax II (KA630) with "set cpu model=vaxstation"
graphics enabled.

I put a copy of the tape image of VWS032 at

  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8ua4QU-3W8kTG0yR2FMTmlZa0E/view?usp=sharing
(just click Download).

To get VAX/VMS V4.7 installed, the distribution tapes are on
ftp.trailing-edge.com. You'll need to install VAX/VMS V4.6, apply the
mandatory update for V4.6, upgrade to VAX/VMS V4.7 (all separate
tapes)

bb-bt05d-be_vaxvms_v4_6_bin_c1987.tap
bb-fy83c-be_vms_v4_6_mand_upd_c1987.tap
bb-ky59a-be_vms_v4_7_bin_c1987.tap

There's also a couple of security updates for VAX/VMS V4.7 from TK50s
that I've put at

  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8ua4QU-3W8kLTBLaVpZbml6N0U/view?usp=sharing
(again click Download)

It all fits on an RD54 emulated system disk - however it is a bit of a
tight fit. There's no Y2K fixes in VAX/VMS V4.7 but it seems to cope
with the current date just fine.

Even though the software doesn't require a license key - running this
should be fine for any current OpenVMS Hobbyist.

VAXwindows was a layered product (like just about everything DEC sold for
VMS). Without it a VAXstation of that era wouldn't be very user friendly,
but it would boot happily enough. However all my VAX software CD-ROMs are
from V5.3(?) onwards so I very much doubt the VAXwindows product is there.

2017-03-09 Thread Ray Jewhurst
I've seen references to VAXwindows. I know it predates VMS 5 but I am not
sure if it was a layered product or not. There is also a very primitive
window system for P/OS on the DECPro called Synergy (which I would love to
find documentation for) that you could control with either the keyboard or
the digitizer. I comes with the P/OS package for xhomer but I have yet to
get it to work with the mouse-emulated digitizer.

The eary VAXstations could also run VAXwindows, which predates DECwindows
and isn't based on X. I used it at one time. It was ok, but rather slow.
It's not a client-server system as X is. I wonder if any copies of the
software still exist.

2017-03-09 Thread Hittner, David T [US] (MS)
The Qbus-based VAXen support the QVSS (black-n-white) video module cards, which
were the basis of the original VaxStation I and were also compatible with
VaxStation II's, III's, and 4000's. The SIMH QVSS uses SDL for visualization.

This is a native DecWindows interface.

To be honest, it's just as easy to start DecWindows headless on any VAX and
connect to the headless DecWindows from your PC via X or X over SSH.

Subject: EXT :[Simh] VAX SDL support?

Quick question - I saw SDL graphics support mentioned somewhere and wondered
which emulators have graphics support? Do any of the VAX ones?

Can I run native DECWindows on any of them?
