Annodized steel rings are great! Extremely light too.

In the annodizing process the steel is melted away by the acids leaving only
the color. Really stands out in the sun, your pilots won't have any trouble
picking up the wrong lines.

Or you could use a short colored piece of leader line to the rings, Mason
line can be found in florescent pink, yellow, orange and green at contractor
supply houses that sell to the masonary crowd. You'll have to check on the
line strength to get a piece strong enough, but its out there. I had been
using it for years on my winch and bungees. Since its a short piece you
don't have to have that strong of a piece, and of course you can double it
up.

RE: [RCSE] This Winters Projects - for All

2008-01-13 Thread Zb. Michalczyk
Get yourself reliable A123 cells
Ether 2300mA from deWalt or BD1100mA (smaller) and get over with this
problem
That's suppose to be everyone project for this winter
You charge them once and they stay charged for couple of years solid
6.6V nominal for two cells
Max 6.85V
You charge them with no time with lots amps
No cycling
You charge them from any stage of the charge - no discharge (cycling) is
obligatory
Stay safer
They are awesome

No need for regulator for all double voltage (4.8V and 6V) servos
Stay away from dedicated 4.8V servos only

Too many planes means far too much time cycling batteries. That's all I
seem to do with my slope planes!

Hold on

I got about 1/2 dozen of this blue boxes
They are nice chargers except you do not see what they are doing for you
I have got occasionally mishaps with batteries ( not necessary from your
bad vendor) but as soon I lost my $4000 plane in spring I got really upset
an got myself real charger.
It got all the Blue boxes under one hood
After fiddling with it for over a month I found it most reliable and
professional charger my eyes have ever seen ( they seen a lot) and I decided
to import them here
You have see it to believe it.

No more guessing for years to come

PS. It might sound like an add, but is certainly straight from the heart,
just to let you guys know
There is a world out there and there was a plain coincidence I got hold on
this charger just month ago.
This thing is awesome
The other PS
forming is one thing
cycling is another
I was able to revitalize 80% of my batteries to full potential in a week
and record all changing performance on file
Some of them were very old and now they back in service to desk duty.

I should have listened to a LOT of your guys' advice regarding BATTERIES
AMERICA...what a JOKE of a company.

Past experiences were nominal like wrong items shipped only to have me
ship back to wait and wait to finally get what I originally
ordered.dealing with RUDE people on their phone..receiving a
couple

RX packs that didn't even SNIFF the capacity level AFTER a 24 hour charge
with my Sirius Pack former..get the runaround over the phone about NOT
PROPERLY CHARGING, etc. Like a Dumb-dumb I keep loyal and try to give
them

the benefit of the doubt.

Recently (the past 2 and 1/2 years) I have had THREE painful surgeries on
my

FEET that has hampered me to do much flying...or anything at all at that.
Prior to my second operation I purchased servo's and batteries for
upcoming

projects once I am back on my feet. Well a THIRD operation was necessary,
unfortunately.and am now getting projects completed. I cycled a 2100
mah

pack , recently, which I purchased roughly a year ago and have not touched
IT or the other products like Volz servo's and another RX pack from a
local

hobby store, and it cranked out a wopping 510mah after a 24 hour trickle
charge. I then re-cycled it for another 24 hours and it really jumped BIG
TIME to 710mah!!! Its a 2100 mah pack
The other pack I purchased from a hobby store cycled up close to where
it

should be and has been working quite well. I asked a friend regarding this
matter and He felt one of the cells went bad. I phoned BATTERIES AMERICA
to

have someone tell me I am a big boy and I NEED to accept REALITY, in
that, its been over a year and thats that. I told them I understand ,
BUT,

the pack has NEVER EVER been cycled...EVER. They claimed that I am not
being realistic, as I agreed it has been a year BUT I am honest and have
NEVER touched the battery or cycled it EVER. I re-coiled and stated back
at

them then your telling me that NONE of your packs haven't sat on the
shelves for a year...TWO...or more?? How am I to know they didn't
ship
me a 2100 mah RX pack that hasn't been collecting dust on their shelves
for

a year or two or three He said THAT is immaterial...I asked how? I
asked can you tell me right now that ALL your packs are LESS than a year
old

and all cells used to put the packs together? He bobbled about only to
say how its NOT THE SAME POINT , its immaterial to my point and matter and
He can't state they ONLY have batteries put together in less than 12
months.
What a joke of a company...I have had other problemss and have read some
of
your guys' NIGHTMARE dealings with these people. I am the one to blame as
i

should not have done any business with these people after the humiliating
conversations and lack of prodcing a product accurate with its description
and expected performance. For a measely 20-30 bux they lost a LOYAL and
HONEST customer.

BTW...the VOLZ servos and the DS368's from Johnny Berlin fired up GREAT
and

the other battery I purchased that sat around until I recovered from my
painful nightmare cycled up and is working very well. I just don't get
it.
How petty are these people and what TERRIBLE business practices they have.
I

recently sent in a $30+ servo I bought from JR that stripped out and they
replaced it with a NEW ONE...no questions asked. How can a 2100 mah
battery

that was NEVER cycled by the buyer be so bad after sitting in my drawer
awaiting my recovery? I wonder how much people like this TIP a
WAITRESS or WAITER after dinnerhow straight-up LAME and CHEAP! I
will NEVER buy a THING from them EVER AGAIN.

Thanks for the bandwith and sorry you guys had to hear me piss moan and
groan! :O)

one guy an he guide me to the genuine producer of this device.
When I got slowly getting familiar with it I could not believed this thing
is soo advanced and use friendly at the same time.

Then I start to look for comparisons
Shultze $460
Shultze with PC interface $560
some of the HonkKong stuff $200 - $300
None of them fully comparable if it comes to multifunction ability

Then I have combined all currently used chargers
Alfa 4 - I paid $250 for second hand charger ( I do not recall how much they
used to cost new)

Robbe Infinity sold by Avoex while back $240
5 Pieces of Sirius chargers - Current prices total over $600

PULSAR 2.07 sells in Europe for 270 euro. + VAT - that what I had paid for
it

For piece of mind and some scientific approach it might be worth it

No - that calculation would give the wingspan for 8 deg on each side (if
59.525 is the span with no dihedral). The correct calculation is 2 x
(59.525 /

2) x cos4deg, or just
59.525 x cos 4deg = 59.38 (draw a diagram!). Good Lift

What's the best template material in terms of a workable compromise
between
workability, durability, accuracy and cost? I think PC board material
would be
overkill, it's only blue foam, even if I make three sets of spares, I
think
it's going to be used for all of an hour to make up all the components,
but
should the worst happen, I guess I would have them on file to pull out,
but not
often. Then there's the remote possibility friends might wanna use them
too...
pretty remote, as I have so few friends;-) I was thinking of using the
rolled
coiled metal flashing common in roof and gutter repair, or maybe just
cheap
balsa sheet (not contest grade or even any particular grain), with
plumbers tape
run around the edges or something? The wing is a flat plate, the fuse
shapes
are all pretty square, this should be a simple process...

Re: [RCSE] Antenna hanging out

2005-03-26 Thread Zb. Michalczyk
It seems like placing the short base-loaded in the nose would be great idea
make it as lance for dork landing
or with safety ball on the tip for les accurate pilots
It is note a joke
make a nose cone go over it with small opening on the tip
make antenna heavy to balance the tail so you use less lead in the nose
practically no drag added for speed , some if nose up.
real aviation does it all the time
OR
ask maker of the kit to do nose cone out of the Fiber Glass only ( you need
weight there anyway)
place the base loaded whip antenna to starting coiling at root bulkhead and
going forward as far you can reach with straight run
I use
http://www.microantenna.com/index.html
this fashion with great results so far but my nose cone IS Fiber Glass and
the boom is carbon occasionally
real aviation hides all electronic ( radars , radio) equipment under those
huge nose cones made of materials not restricting anything
Why the wheel has to be discovered over and over again
we are talking about safety issues here

Try it. I doubt however the second parallel unit will be effective. It
runs a very high chance of double imaging at the RX front end (reduction
in range). The other issue is the antenna element and the distance it sits
relative the carbon, the closer (as in fractions of a millimeter) the more
energy loss.

The best solution, although cumbersome (transport to/from the field with a
6 vertical can be a pain), is a base-loaded whip that stands vertically
out of the existing ground plane, that being the rest of the ground side
of the existing wiring harness. With proper placement, the gains
associated with the ability to be positioned 90 degrees to the existing
GND plane will equal or exceed the OEM antenna...which always lies
parallel to the GND plane (not optimum by any means).

With the element just aft of the wing TE, receiving losses in 3 dimensions
(3D plots) shows the worst gain when the TX is 45 degees down directly in
front the aircraft (~6dB). Not enough to ruin your day be any means.

Finally, parts of the antenna left to dangle are doing most of the
work...away from the dissipative CF...keep this in mind when sticking with
the OEM (of any length).

George Voss wrote:
To all of the double E's out there, I have an antenna question: Since
a
large number of new sailplanes have copious amounts of carbon in the
fuselage, and leaving some of the antenna wire seems to solve nearly
everyone's issues, what about using a fine copper wire that runs parallel
to
the fuselage on both the top and bottom, that is taped to the fuselage?
This will get rid of drag and make the antenna 'visible' to the
transmitter
nearly 100% of the time. Is this a workable situation or is there some
electrical faux pas that this commits?

Subject: [RCSE] Rare earth magnets as wing retention devices?

One more question: anyone tried using large rare earth magnets as wing
retention devices on wings with plug-in wing panels? I know that these are
routinely used for hatch and canopy hold-downs and similar, just wondering
if people have tried them in place of snap-type wing locks or hook band
retention systems?

Does anyone have any experience with this receiver? It looks too good to
be
true... but with today's SMT technology I'm not surprised. Any feedback
good/bad is much appreciated.

Thanks.

[RCSE] scale pilots

2005-02-19 Thread Zb. Michalczyk
Hi All!
I got some scale pilot dummies in 1/3.5 and 1/4 scale
they have been made for special order to fit style of 50's and 60's but
could be used to any glider between 1/4-1/3 scale.
if they would become popular I might try to have more of them in the future.
There is only few left in each of this two sizes

Thanks for a band

What is wrong with the list
Ihave a hard time to post anything there for
months. Practically no luck
"Test" message is first one showing for
weeks
it goes there (no bouncing) and never shows
up
from the other hand there is very little messages
showing up on my mail box any way
Some of them are answers for question I have never
got ( and seen)in my box
Is that e-mail messaging going to look like that
this days( firewalls, spam protection and who know what)
or something can be done?
anybody experience similar problems?
it seems that anonymous filtering is killing spirit
of this exchange

Harley!
www.klasskote.com
It seems exactly the same like Hobby Poxy and KB paints, primers, etc.
I have been using old parts with new ones interchangeably with decent
results
I am using it on my scale gliders with fraction of gelcoat weight
Very powerful paint per volume/per money. Very light - One of the kind
and very practical - brush, spray gun, Q-tip on FG, fabric , wood ... on
anything
fades with the time , but very little and stays that way

Subject: [RCSE] K B primer/filler

Years back I was able to get the 2-part K B primer-filler. One was
Primer, a thick, white formula in an 8 oz. can to be mixed with the
Primer Catalyst.

When glassing over wood structures, this mix would fill low spots and
scratches and could be wet sanded with progressively finer grits to get a
glass smooth finish for painting.

In the past I could get it directly from ACE R/C and Tower stocked it. Now
Ace only sells to dealers and Tower no longer handles K B paint
products. There's no ACE dealer in this area.

A recorded message at K B says they are closed until Jan 3, but they
were downright rude when I tried to get some this directly some time back.
They evidently do not want any nuisance retail sales.

I've only used the old formula with #'s in the 8100's. The new #'s are
8226 and 8227 shown in an older Tower catalog.

Can anyone help me get some of this stuff? I'd be delighted to take stuff
you might have on hand stored for years. The shelf life must be 20 years
or so.

Johnny. . .does ACE show it in their catalog?
Does anyone have any of this stuff or knows where to get it.
Tower one handled it but has discontinued

Re: [RCSE] What do you use as a building table?

2004-11-07 Thread Zb. Michalczyk
A solid 80X 24 door from Home Depot
If they straight on the rack they will stay that way
support them evenly at three points so won't develop a bow with the time
They come with different width , but I found out the narrower table comes
more practical then wider one
You can always add another half... on the hinge

I'm looking to invest in a new building table, but am curious where to
go to get a decent one.
Many of the standard tables I see are only 30 deep. Perhaps two of
those together is good?
Anyway, any ideas or suggestions you have would be great.
