I know, right?

It's like someone had their pet murdered and minced by the vet who was saying
"it's nothing, don't worry, he'll be fine", and a few years later they would
still resent a lying, puppy killing vet.
In that story the vet also invoiced and got paid several times over while he
was beating the puppy's corpse (and allegedly having necrophiliac farm sex with
it, but it's never been proven).
In the vet's defence, he did send a leprous, blind Labrador that routinely
shits on the carpet as a replacement for the puppy, and insisted it's much
better and only going to get even better with age.

I totally can't see why or how people would be upset after all this time ;)

Buying softimage to retire it, was itself a(n entirely legal)

As we sell OEM programs, we have already registered our software and so
there is no need for you to do this again.

RE: softimage 2015 and Vista

2014-11-12 Thread Sven Constable
If its for a render farm you can install windows7 on as many machines you like.
You just need a working serial, eg. from one of the workstations where you
already bought a legal copy of windows for. It's a bit shady but not illegal I
think. You just don't activate it and it will not stop working. After the grace
period certain things stop working like windows aero and the desktop background
turns black and things like that to prevent users to actually work with it
conveniently. And it's not possible to receive windows updates after that 30
days. But usually no one logs in on render nodes (except remotely once in a
while). Usually these machines have no internet connection either.

Making a sysprepped image of windows7 however is a bit more hassle than it was
with XP64 but it's possible to include everything in a sysprepped image like
windows key, language setting, timezone, workgroup etc. Even the annoying
thing that windows7 forces you to create an additional user at first boot time
can be skipped. So after you deployed the image on the render nodes you only
have to set the machine name once.

softimage 2014 was not supported under Vista, however you could install it on
it... which was, like nice. It would not be bad if I had to buy 1 or 2 copies
of windows 8 but it is quite a bit more than that.

Vista? Really? ;-)

But according to this:

it's Win7 and up. Time to let go and move on ;-P

Hi,
Yes, it's the "deform/shape/select shape key" method

Blendshapes workflow - alternative to Shape Manager?

2014-11-12 Thread Nicolas Esposito
Hi guys,

I'm getting used to the blend shapes in Maya, but I'm still slow with
modeling, so I'm mostly using Softimage for modeling.
Since I have lots of blend shape to create and I don't want to go back and
forth from Softimage ( modeling ) to Maya ( assign blendshapes ) is there a
similar way to setup blend shapes in Softimage?

Means that I create variations of the same mesh ( so meshes with the same
number of polys/vertex ) and later I add those meshes to the shape manager
or any other tool that works similar to the blend shape manager in Maya.

Cheers

Nicolas
