It's a very good list, considering a lot of the updates in maya seem to be
just bought plug ins

can anyone on the beta disclose whether or not the
biharmonic skin weighting at timestamp 4:01 https://vimeo.com/202435893
convert itself to regular skin weights readable in maya or unity (I guess
dual quaternion)?

I thought it was always interesting after watching this years ago
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9fqm8vgdB8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCo7nBdktbw
actually a lot of alec jacobson's stuff is very interesting

They were put together for H13/14 (I think, I'm sure Jordi can clarify).
But there's still plenty of useful stuff for H16. The Mantra cheatsheet

It's a near 700mb download altogether but it's pretty essential reading for

The H16 release is looking awesome!

So much new stuff, and I really like the new nodal look and workflow.
And radial menus for modeling and such :-)

Also very curious about the new rigging tools.

Looking forward to the (online) release presentation on Monday!

I'm still wondering if a baked animation pipeline works in it, if

It's based on just baking various constraints and re-constraining. and
building the rig for the bones on the fly

does houdini have mel type scripts you can build and run?

true...this is a great release and shows how much effort and passion
SideFX puts into Houdini!
I ges you won´t get more development from any developer. Compare this to
AD. LOL
You won´t get this much in 10 years..and if so, it will be implemented
half ass and instable ;)

At least, the furure is bright for Houdini!

I feel your pain… I have tried Maya countless times and always got the same
impression although it is fair to say the last 2 years seems Autodesk is
finally putting some things in place and I will expect to get it right on
future releases. Both for Flame and Maya they seem to gain some pace now.

Re: houdini 16

2017-02-04 Thread Eugene Flormata
I like the new stuff in maya
but it's just so unstable once I try to get fancy
mash breaks all the time past 2 mash networks
and using layers in the new render thing is never consistent.
the new render pass thing ignores overrides seemingly when it feels like it.
reference files constantly cause mash node disconnects, and there always
alerts that pop up that I just have to ignore in a scene?
sometimes the references work, sometimes they cause weird render issues
where redshift prepass just gets stuck on the same frame on the same
prepass. so when I want to keep things in one project, I can't, I have to
split it into separate files just to render it sometimes.
just gotta keep my options open.

if I just use it for modeling and UVing it's great though, just can't seem
to not hate it more when trying to do more than that.

any idea when the other features get shown Jordi? thanks for the reply by
the way

I can’t talk much but what you saw in that video is actually enormous amount of
features… have another look.

Indeed, it has the cookie tool that was booleans… and very good as well… now
they are… let’s say… incredible.
