2018-07-12 Thread Vincent Langer
Hi there,
I do not know where to ask - so I try it here.

some time ago a saw a demo of a tool which creates normal maps from photos.
But the special thing was that you have to have a mirror ball in the
pictures so that the software can figure out the position from with the
light source is coming.

Does anyone know the name of this piece of software?

split-flap wall

2015-09-29 Thread Vincent Langer
Hi there,

I have to create a split-flap airport wall.
So the oldschool info textboard with the rotating letters.

Did anybody create something similar with ice?

I am a bit clueless but maybe it would be a good project to step into

All information are very welcome :)

Re: Alembic performance?

2015-03-18 Thread Vincent Langer
I think this is a softimage thing. Not a alembic thing. Softimage is pretty
slow with lots of objects.
I bet if the cinema guy would export all objects as one it would perform
very good in softimage.

Am 18.03.2015 11:32 schrieb Morten Bartholdy x...@colorshopvfx.dk:

I am stuck on Softimage 2013SP1 so I am using Crate for opening alembic
files. I am currently working with shots where we import alembic files
created in Cinema4D and they contain many thousands of objects that scale
and rotate. With Crate they are pretty slow to work with - scrubbing the
timeline is slow, and creating overrides in various passes is slow.

I can see our Maya artists can actually scrub the timeline in Maya
pretty inetractively with the same files, so I take it the built in version
from Autodesk is faster that Crate.

I am curious to know if someone here have tried the built in alembic
loader in a newer version of Softimage and had the opportunity to compare
it to the one in Maya?

 Best

What should be the best procedure to transfer the fluid data between the

 Interesting topic here.
Was just testing agisoft photoscan for some non commercial related work,

Has anyone tried to compare a kinekt based approach such as skanect (

 scanning?

I am curious about the pros and cons of both.

Check Momentum - Geometry Tools - Instancer.

It creates for you a polygon mesh with all our Instances in it. Its live,
but is merged! If your mashes are not to big that could be a way.

significant undertaking. Thus, the project was abandoned long ago.

A few weeks ago I got a message asking if I could share the unfinished
product, prompting me to dust it off and apply a few strategically placed
band-aids to at least get it functioning.
Consider it a lesson in bad design.

I need to reposition an environmentmap hdri, essentially moving it on the

 should have been.

Thinking I just need to rendermap out reflections from a sphere, I tried
this, but get a black image. I am in Arnold land so MR techniques are not
very present - should this not be possible, and what might I be missing?

Stick nulls to PointCloud

2013-01-30 Thread Vincent Langer
Hi there,

i have some pointcaches of underwater float particles and i want to create
a small ice setup which lets me move a null by this pointCloud.

i want to attach some bigger float pieces to that nulls.

i had no success so far.

the math is not the problem.

i take the three closest points at the modeling stack and in the simulation
stack i use the 3 positions to calculate the transformation and orientation.

but i can not get the null go back to an initial position which i define by
another null at the first frame.

maybe somebody has done something similar!

cheers,
Vincent

You could try the emPolygonizer4 plugin – the demo is free – and may even
just work to import the meshes, at least you can try it out.

ah okay - thanks,

2012/10/22 Debdas Mohanty devj...@gmail.com

 Hello Vincent,

 REAL FLOW:

The MD format is very similar to a particle emitter’s PD files. With
MD it’s also possible to choose from a wide variety of attributes to become
stored with the file, as you can see from the image below. Currently, MD is
not natively supported by the plug-ins and requires custom import filters.
A third option is to write out an OBJ sequence. OBJ is implemented in many
applications, but most programs can only load one OBJ file per scene,
 instead of entire sequences.

I think its best way to import .bin files through empolygonizer...
