Normal Map from Photos with mirrorball Tool
Hi there, I do not know where to ask - so I try it here. some time ago a saw a demo of a tool which creates normal maps from photos. But the special thing was that you have to have a mirror ball in the pictures so that the software can figure out the position from with the light source is coming. Does anyone know the name of this piece of software? Cheers, Vincent -- Softimage Mailing List. Re: Alembic performance?
I think this is a softimage thing. Not a alembic thing. Softimage is pretty slow with lots of objects. I bet if the cinema guy would export all objects as one it would perform very good in softimage. Cheers Am 18.03.2015 11:32 schrieb Morten Bartholdy x...@colorshopvfx.dk: I am stuck on Softimage 2013SP1 so I am using Crate for opening alembic files. I am currently working with shots where we import alembic files created in Cinema4D and they contain many thousands of objects that scale and rotate. With Crate they are pretty slow to work with - scrubbing the timeline is slow, and creating overrides in various passes is slow. I can see our Maya artists can actually scrub the timeline in Maya pretty inetractively with the same files, so I take it the built in version from Autodesk is faster that Crate. I am curious to know if someone here have tried the built in alembic loader in a newer version of Softimage and had the opportunity to compare it to the one in Maya? Best Morten

3d point position to 2D screen X/Y pixel position
Hi there, there was a tool that lets you output 2D screen positions from a 3d null point or someting like that. but I can not remember the name. or ist there an easier way to get that? cheers, Vincent

Re: Rendermapping a reflection?
You Can render a new hdri with the spherical cam lens shader oder adjust the former hdri in nuke Am 20.02.2013 11:52 schrieb Morten Bartholdy x...@colorshopvfx.dk: ** I need to reposition an environmentmap hdri, essentially moving it on the z axis and create a new env map hdri from that, because space on the hdri aquirement location did not allow me to put the camera exactly where it should have been. I am in Arnold land so MR techniques are not very present - should this not be possible, and what might I be missing? Thanks! Best Morten
Stick nulls to PointCloud
Hi there, i have some pointcaches of underwater float particles and i want to create a small ice setup which lets me move a null by this pointCloud. i want to attach some bigger float pieces to that nulls. i had no success so far. the math is not the problem. i take the three closest points at the modeling stack and in the simulation stack i use the 3 positions to calculate the transformation and orientation. but i can not get the null go back to an initial position which i define by another null at the first frame. maybe somebody has done something similar! cheers, Vincent

Re: Realflow .md files
ah okay - thanks, the extra attributes in the .md files is what i am looking for. cheers, vincent 2012/10/22 Debdas Mohanty devj...@gmail.com Hello Vincent, REAL FLOW: The MD format is very similar to a particle emitter’s PD files. With MD it’s also possible to choose from a wide variety of attributes to become stored with the file, as you can see from the image below. Currently, MD is not natively supported by the plug-ins and requires custom import filters. A third option is to write out an OBJ sequence. OBJ is implemented in many applications, but most programs can only load one OBJ file per scene, instead of entire sequences. I think its best way to import .bin files through empolygonizer... -- Vincent Langer Leonberger Str. 38 71638 Ludwigsburg +49 176 965 177 61
