Re: Siggraph dinner - the finale

2016-07-11 Thread Matt Lind
Friendly reminder as Siggraph is now less than 2 weeks away. If you would like
to meet other users over dinner, please RSVP by emailing me at
matt(dot)lind(at)mantom(dot)net with subject “Siggraph dinner 2016”. Guests
are welcome provided I’m notified in advance.

Please include:
- your name
- number of people in your party including yourself
- other accommodations, if applicable (dietary requirements, handicap
access, etc.)
- reliable contact information to reach you in case plans change
unexpectedly.

NOTE: I am switching web hosts this week. if your message bounces it probably
means the transfer is in progress. In which case just try again later.

Feel free to pass along the invite to someone who may be interested.
---
What:
A casual dinner amongst colleagues to put faces to names.

Where:
Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen @ Downtown Disney
1590 Disneyland Drive
Anaheim, CA 92802

Located on west end of downtown Disney, south side of the street.
(East of AMC theaters, west of House of Blues, opposite Taqueria and
Tortilla Jo’s).

When:
Sunday July 24, 2016.
- 6:00 pm meet and greet in the bar (lower level, right side)
- 7:30 pm(ish) seated for dinner.

NOTE: Everyone must be present or else hostess will not seat us
(Disney’s rule – they do enforce it).

Other details:
- Each person is responsible for his/her own bill, including gratuity and
taxes.
- The bill is issued per table, therefore expect to do simple arithmetic to
calculate
your portion, and (preferably) have cash on hand to pay it.

BTW - being the first dinner after retirement, attendees should wear some type
of Softimage memorabilia such as the oldest T-shirt (that doesn't look like a
truck ran over it) you can find, or something that commemorates how you first
got involved with Softimage.

Sorry for the delay. I've been very busy on the home front and am behind
schedule compared to years past, so this will be like the original dinners from
15 years ago I planned by the seat of my pants - which turned out pretty well.
I don't have a venue picked yet, but will follow usual schedule of dinner on
Sunday with meet n' greet starting at 6 pm and sit down for dinner around 7:15
pm-ish. The venue will either be near the convention center, or in the hotel
district.

If you would like to attend, send an email to matt.lind(at)mantom.net with your
contact information (email address you would like to be contacted at) and how
many guest(s) you are bringing. I'll notify you with choice of venue when it
becomes known. Just be aware it may be last minute.

Please only RSVP if you truly expect to attend.

I dug into my own pocket and reserved the upper balcony to ourselves at Ralph

great view of the area, fireworks over the magic kingdom, and private seating

Thank you to all who responded to my survey from a few weeks ago. The
results have been tallied and almost 85% of you requested Sunday as the
first choice of meeting time, and a smaller percentage specifically
requested a return to Trader Vic’s. Therefore, common sense says to
 do
  just that.

Every year at Siggraph I host a dinner for those wanting to get
together, break bread, and exchange anecdotes. This year marks the 10th
anniversary of the event. I'm conducting an informal survey so I may
better plan the event. Most years the event starts at 6:00 pm with meet n'
greet, then sit down for dinner some time after 7:00 pm. There's usually
 drinks afterwards at another venue.

This year Siggraph will be held in Los Angeles, California at the LA
convention center which is part of the Staples Center where the Lakers,
Kings, and Clippers play home games. For reference, last time I hosted in
Los Angeles the event was held at Trader Vic's on the north end of the LA
Live block on Siggraph Sunday which is immediately north of the staples
 center.

If you're interested in attending, let me know by sending an email to
 matt(dot)lind(at)mantom(dot)net.
Include some basic details such as:

- your name
- email address
- preferred day for dinner (1st choice and alternate choice).
- maximum time/distance from convention center you're willing to travel
- special requirements, if applicable (handicap access needed, food
 allergies, dietary restrictions, etc...)

I'll use submitted information for the purpose of scouting locations and
planning this year's dinner. It will not be shared with anyone.

  thanks,

  Matt
