[speedtouch] Re: Modem connection gradually gets slower.

2004-04-05 Thread Sergio Millich

Sorry everybody, I think I've found out what did it: it must have been my
firewall configuration. The firewall setup in rpppOe (the 1 option in
adsl-setup) does not work or at least I don't know how to use it correctly.
On top of that I had a firewal configuration left over from my previous PCI
modem which was on eth1 (there's nothing there anymore). Without any
firewall (0 option) everything works just fine, at least for now. Thank you
all for your concern.

I guess that Firefox and Thunderbird have a peculiar way of querying
the
connection when you type in the location bar. I'm no expert really. The
strange thing is that Mozilla still worked perfectly while that was
happening, at least until the other day when the response times got
painfully slow. Could it be related to the fact that I didn't kill
 modem_run
  etc.. properly on shutdown?
 No

Did you use a proxy (what is the cache size, how much memory installed)?
 Did your disk swap?

Hello Sergio,
then gradually I have been getting problems with Firefox and
Thunderbird not being able to type into the location bar without
 freezing the browser.

Care to explain how that could be related to the speedtouch driver?

Leonard.

I took it as his connection was slowing, but now you mention it...

It sounds like a memory leak to me. What does top (or vmstat) say when
things start getting slow? Hit the 'M' key in top to see who's using the most
memory.

Ciao,

Duncan.
