The old SB3 can only use 2,4gHz g network the new N and AC stuff does
not apply .

I have an SB radio with the same limitation i keep a separate 2,4 GHz
net for that one , it's currently My only wifi player My phone iPad and
friends phone uses My 5ghz net .

Awesome - thanks!

I'll keep pressing on on my plans. Now I just have to wait for the
remaining parts to arrive (and for my wife to go out one day so I can

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the well written Italian reply. Just kidding! :) But the
content do read a little a like a foreign language to the
non-linux-adept me.

I was thinking, if I rename the "wrong" bin folder (i386-linux) to
something like i386-linux-old, and then create a symbolic link named
"i386-linux" pointing to "x86_64-linux" (supposedly the right folder),
then restart LMS, would it achieve what you are saying?

Sorry for my inability to understand such technical details.

Thanks again.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Use --nomysqueezebox when starting from System Preferences on Mac

2017-06-12 Thread odw199

To run LMS with the --nomysqueezebox option on a Mac when
starting/stopping LMS from the System Preferences you'll need to modify
a simple script.

Open the file below in your favourite text editor:

Code:

/Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/Resources/start-server.sh

Then change just add the --nomysqueezebox switch the slim server.pl
line. In my file it now looks like this:

Code:

#!/bin/sh
  SERVER_RUNNING=`ps -axww | grep
"squeezecenter\.pl|slimp3\.pl\|slimp3d\|slimserver\.pl\|slimserver" | grep -v
grep | cat`

  PRODUCT_NAME=Squeezebox
  LOG_FOLDER="$HOME/Library/Logs/$PRODUCT_NAME"

  if [ z"$SERVER_RUNNING" = z ] ; then
if [ ! -e $LOG_FOLDER ] ; then
mkdir -p $LOG_FOLDER;
fi

if [ z"$USER" != zroot ] ; then
chown -R $USER $LOG_FOLDER
fi

cd "`dirname $0`/../server"

./slimserver.pl --nomysqueezebox --daemon $1 &> /dev/null &
  fi

Caveats:
1. This will only take effect when manually starting LMS from the System
Preferences. I doubt it will work when automatically starting at boot.
2. I presume the changes will be lost on upgrade, so you'd need to
re-apply the change after an upgrade.

If there's a better/cleaner way to enable this option then please feel
free to point it out.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Lms 7.9 QtS4.3 64bit problem?

2017-06-12 Thread chrissy

Hi,

under linux, the first thing executed in a binary file is the linker
loader, usually located in /lib or /lib64 on 64 bit systems and named
ld-linux.so.3 or some different number. The linkerloader is hardwired in
the binary. If the linker loader is different in the binary and there is
no linker loader with the correct name, you will get the message "file
not found" when the binary is executed. For example, on my cubietruck
with armbian 5.25, the binary of, for example faad in the
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Bin/arm-linux dirctory, which seems to be
used as default are linked with ld-linux.so.3, which does not exist by
default on my system. The existing linker loader is ld-linux-armhf.so.3
.If you put a symbolic link with the command ln -s
/lib/ld-linux-armhf.so.3 /lib/ld-linux.so.3 the binary finds the correct
linker loader. An alternative would be to copy the working binaries into
the default directoy ie. copy them from the
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Bin/armhf-linux to
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Bin/arm-linux or change the default search
directory from /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Bin/arm-linux to
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Bin/armhf-linux , but I don't know how it's
done. The way adding a symbolic link worked for me.

If you dont know how the linker loader of your binary is named, you will
have to use a hexeditor like HxD under windows to figure out how the
linker loader is named. ( copy the executable to a location that is
served with samba, map the directoy in windows and open it with HxD and
search for ld- which should be in the first few lines). But for lms it
should be the names mentioned above.
Hope this cears up things.

Greets
Chris

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How many sync'd players are realistc?

2017-06-12 Thread iPhone

.
.
The main issues are always going to be available Network Bandwidth and
how much muscle one's Server has. Then add if there is interference from
other WiFi Networks using the same channel if one is trying to use only
WiFi connected Squeezeboxen! Lastly, if the players can't transcode the
source file natively, then that is additional strain on the Server.

I have had 21 players sync'd at one time with more then half on Ethernet
and all of them actual Slim Devices (one side note, players need to be
SB3/Classics or newer). Playing one source file seems like not such a
big deal if the Server and bandwidth are available and transcoding is
not needed. One needs a powerful server if wanting to Sync eight to ten
players while having several others players running different
playlists.

Everyone's setup is different as are most Servers, the biggest hurdle
seems to be running a "clean interference free" WiFi network, so YMMV!

2017-06-12 Thread pippin

I've synced up to 7. I think there used to be a limit of 12 or so but I
think that's no longer the case.

One thing that is important with so many players is that they are
similar.
Different device types have different timing behavior and that can cause
a lot of sync corrections which with this number of players can have an
impact on sound. But it think with similar RPis you are somewhat safe.
But if you then add PCs or Android devices or iOS devices to the mix it
could get worse.

I suspect that as they're using the same carrier frequency you will find
that two identical pairs of power line adapters performs just as badly
as one mesh of four. Not that I've tried this.

I would always vote for a Linux setup - it's likely to be long term more
stable and supportable as it's what the LMS community seems to have
moved towards. But you don't really need a lot of horsepower unless you
are doing heavyweight transcoding.

Thanks! I didn't realise that and it may explain some odd LMS behavour
when my NAS has also been running hard. If I was to run into problems
could I pare them independently to double band width, i.e. a 2x2 layout
with 2 source adapters on my main hub running to a single end point
each. Or do they still compete on frequency/bandwidth in some way.

I really appreciate the help on this! I've been a long time user of LMS
but always just pottered with 2 or 3 end points, so this is my first
major setup.

Actually I've just had a count up and I'm already happily running 4
players at the moment on 'phase 1' of my implementation. All are on wifi
and they are keeping sync really well. I have 3 others set up but
haven't tested all together in sync as I'm still waiting on
DAC's/AMP's/Relays to arrive.

I'll ultimately switch some over to wired as needed if that turns out to
be problematic (I have a bunch of powerline network extenders which I
can use around the 3 parts of the house).

I've successfully run four devices synced over WiFi. The biggest issue
is going to be bandwidth and CPU power, so this will depend on your
chosen source. If it's 320kb MP3 and all the players can play it
natively (which is the case for Pi's) then you probably won't have any
problems.

I wouldn't expect them to be in perfect audio sync though.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How many sync'd players are realistc?

2017-06-12 Thread s2kiwi

Hi all,

I'm slowly building up a new squeeze implementation for our new house
(ok, we've been in it 2 years, but it'll still be considered new until I
get the music sorted).

But I have a burning question: How many separate synchronised players
will realistically work together?

Ideally I have 9 zones in the house, so that would be 9 players. Most of
the time they'll be playing the same so will need to stay synchronised.

Does anyone know if that is feasible or will I need to cut down the
players by having multiple zones on each player? The hardware I'm
planning to run is largely Raspberry Pi's, each running two instances of
squeezelite with 2 DAC's per Pi (one I2S DAC and one USB DAC on each).
In case it matters, quality needs to be "good" but not "audiophile"
under this config. If I'm in the main listening room I'll turn off all
other zones to avoid having to worry about syncing.

Any thoughts from anyone? Anyone else running high numbers of zones?
