Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Setting Unicode on LMS for Windows?

2021-06-24 Thread reinholdk

Setting arguments for LMS when it's running as a Windows service is done
in the registry, See
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?111436-LMS-not-seeing-files-with-non-Latin-characters-in-the-filename-(Windows)=975914=1#post975914

But it's important to have 8.3 file naming enabled for the disk using
the fsutil command, also mentioned in that thread.

The update has reset the streaming method to direct streaming.

direct streaming means the data stream goes direct from broadcaster to
player - and not through the LMS server. This is most efficient but the
player must be able to play the audio codec natively and if necessary
also support https.

Proxied streaming means LMS inserts itself into the interaction so
station audio data goes to LMS and then from LMS to player.

Since "proxied streaming" worked - it means there is a problem with your
player. If it is squeezelite - then it may need to be updated. If it is
up to date then it is a new bug.

What is your player ?
What is the version of software ? (check WebUI Setings/Information for
player info)

bpa was asking if you are using "direct streaming". As far as I know,
for playback of https streams you need to set the streaming method for
your players to "proxied streaming".
This can be done via LMS => Settings => Player => player name => Audio.
Almost at the bottom you can change the Streaming Method from direct
streaming to proxied streaming (if not already set to proxied
streaming).

Miraculous. That did it and Organlive now plays. I will try others.
Thanks.

For player incapable of https (e.g.SB3, Touch) proxied streaming will be
done automatically.

However for player capable of https (e.g. recent squeezelite) - stream
will be played directly but what if the player has a problem with their

You should be able to update your LMS to at least v8.1.1, which is the
latest official release. My advise would be to update to the latest
8.1.2 nightly build. Since I am not running LMS on pCP I do not know
exactly how to update your LMS. Am sure others can tell you.

You can open the server log via the LMS information tab (LMS => Settings
=> Information).
At the top of this information page you can see which version of LMS you
are using. It can be useful if you copy and paste the full LMS status
info in this thread.
For example, the status info of my LMS server is:

Code:

Logitech Media Server Version: 8.1.2 - 1622353561 @ Sun May 30 08:50:15
WEDT 2021
  Hostname: ATOM
  Server IP Address: 192.168.0.101

  Platform Architecture: 8664
  Perl Version: 5.14.1 - MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
  Audio::Scan: 1.02
  IO::Socket::SSL: 2.068
  Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.58 (sqlite 3.22.0)

At the bottom of the information page you can open the Server Log and
Scanner Log files.

What do you mean "they are about to play but won't" ?
what messages are in server.log ?
What are the symptoms ?

Where are you ?

These are N.America streams. The EU streams are not working.

Thank you for your insight, Michael. I can now see that the time problem
is key. Should have noticed before that the 'time screen' on my SQB
radio is totally incorrect. This, I assume, is why I am getting the
'Connect time out' messages - i.e. due to a mismatch between when I make
the request in (false) picoreplayer time as compared to the response in
real time.
I have rebooted pcp and restarted lms as you have suggested, but have
not solved the time problem.
It may be of interest to relate that if I run my SQB radio from a laptop
with lms 8.1.1 downloaded, there is no similar timing problem. However,
the laptop is closed a large part of the day and is not a solution I am
happy with.
So, what next? All help most gratefully received.

I there is an issue, then it is a LMS issue, I think nothing to do with
piCorePlayer.

My LMS uses an attached USB drive.

I did this test:

1. Played track. OK.
2. Renamed wav file.
3. Replayed track. Not OK. Error messages.
4. Renamed wav file back to original name.
5. Played track. OK. Normal operation. Nothing appears to be missing
from database.

Of course, a different setup, a different test, a different result.
YMMV. :)

Where is your cache stored? It might be better if the cache is local on
your RPi.

Since you are using pcp it is unlikely the the issue.

I have checked the below URLs and for me they fail both in LMS and

The "error" I get is that, while LMS appears to scan the library

Thanks, I understand what you're saying.
Since I am no experienced Docker / Linux user (and not quite sure about
my capabilities here) I guess this would mean having to re-configure
this container? This is why I currently update the docker container
using Portainer to re-create it to the latest version. I wonder if this
means it will automatically update to 8.2.0 if that becomes the latest
stable version. I guess so but I'll have to wait I guess.

I think that removing them is sort of OK because it prevents subsequent
attempts to play that track that are sure to fail (as long as the disk
remains unavailable).

However, I agree that it is worth resolving if someone has the time to
look at it - and it is low priority since it is a rare event with an
effective workaround.
A "Changed and New" scan should bring them back.

However, I still wonder if it would be possible to prevent LMS from
removing such temporarily missing songs from its database.
Or at least to have a more efficient way to get such removed songs back
into the database.

I guess there can be similar issues in other situations, e.g. for USB
mounts: If one uses a USB drive and that drive is temporarily
disconnected from the Raspberry Pi I would assume the same problematic
behaviour.

MAC Address 00:04:20:29:44:94

Initially able to play radio streams then drops UEsmartradio.com but
remains connected to internet.

Red internet symbol appears.

"No valid IP" network status

"There is a problem connecting to UEsmartradio.com" message

Modem and wifi are stable in all other ways

Have tried the following troubleshooting actions: Turned power off and
on, changed modems, did a factory reset plugged Ethernet cable into
modem, changed channels, switched to Squeezebox from Smart Radio.

Took radio to a separate residential location and problem *does not
duplicate*.

I have a second Squeezebox that works fine at the same second
residential location. (Could somehow a second radio be the source of the
problem?) Both are registered with Logitech.
