Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9.3 on MacOS 10.11.6 does not play some ALAC files
Success! I believe the new version of faad did the trick (thanks to ralphy). I tried a different track without any unusual characters and it also didn't play; good suggestion though. I also managed to get openssl updated to 1.1.h (thanks to mherger). I'm really impressed and humbled by the community's efforts to help me solve this. Thanks to everyone who chimed in! roryking's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=70758 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113049 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9.3 on MacOS 10.11.6 does not play some ALAC files
There's a 'newer faad build available' (https://sourceforge.net/projects/lmsclients/files/utility/faad/20200908-d0a0bca/faad-osx/download) that fixes a few more CVE issues. Please try it to decode one of the problem file. Is it possible the version of faad is out of date. Up to mar 2020 - darwin 64 bit build of LMS have a Jun 2017 version of faad. In Aug 2017 Ralphy fixed a lot of CVE-2017 bugs - admittedly these fixes are aimed at crafted mp4 files. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113049 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

If so, it might suggest that a solution, or an understanding of the problem, may lie in understanding how the "bad tracks" have been constructed. mrw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38299 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113049 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

The SSL modules are all out of date which means you'll have problem with LMS repository and internet services - if you use them. Unlikely to be able to update the SSL stuff without updating MacOS. Don't give up: somebody came up with instructions to update SSL stuff on macOS which have helped many already. https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?109738-Error-Can-t-connect-to-remote-server-to-retrieve%85=925539=1#post925539 -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Squeezelite is over a year old and there has been a lot of bug fixes. The SSL modules are all out of date which means you'll have problem with LMS repository and internet services - if you use them. So the problem is in either the file content or more unlikely perhaps the full file name - some strange letter encodings (perhaps of the &) have caused problems in the past for some applications ? To check the name copy the file and give it a simple name. faad is the problem - to fix faad, a copy of a "bad" file needs to be made available so the problem (e.g. content format, name handling) can be fixed . A workaround might be to use ffmpeg and add a custom-convert.conf to use faad - do you know if ffmpeg is available for your system ? bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113049 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9.3 on MacOS 10.11.6 does not play some ALAC files
File sort of looks OK. You didn't show the "File Format" but the screen shot shows enough (i.e file type = alc) Tags seem to be read OK by LMS. >From the log it looks like player is not capable of native ALAC or native ALAC is disabled. So ALAC is being transcoded into Flac and since ALAC may be hi-res - the ALC->FLC transcode rule is set up to use sox so that it can resample if necessary The resulting transcode command looks OK as resampling part of sox is not "active" Code: "/Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/Bin/darwin-x86_64/faad" -q -w -f 1 "/Volumes/Big iTunes/Music/Gillian Welch/Revival/04 Barroom Girls.m4a" | "/Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/Bin/darwin-x86_64/sox" -q -t wav - -t flac -C 0 - So time to verify that faad can really handle the problem files. Can you check this command works from a Terminal Code: "/Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/Bin/darwin-x86_64/faad" -w -f 1 "/Volumes/Big iTunes/Music/Gillian Welch/Revival/04 Barroom Girls.m4a" >testoutput.wav It should generate a wav file called testoutput.wav . The "-q" option is removed so I think it will generate log output to stderr. Try the same command with good/bad file instead of "04 Barroom Girsl.m4a" bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113049 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9.3 on MacOS 10.11.6 does not play some ALAC files
Yes for both of those commands. One thing I have noticed: when I try to play one of those ALAC files the server spins up an instance of faad. If I try to play another problem file the server will spin up an additional instance of faad. I got up to four instances of faad running this morning before moving on. Each instance wants to split up the total available CPU% almost evenly and this maxes out the computer's available CPU load making it very slow. The sox instance drops to 0%. 31835 Playing an ALAC file it "likes" will create an faad instance that uses less than 2% available CPU and a sox instance that uses about the same amount. 31836 +---+ |Filename: Screen Shot 2020-10-13 at 8.48.33 AM.png | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=31836| +---+ roryking's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=70758 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113049 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
