There are settings in LMS to make the log more verbose.

Dont forget to apply them so they stick around next reboot .

You can have the log name every file its scanning . (dont remeber how at
the moment)
You both scanner.log and server.log some scan ends up logged in the
server log.

And how do I find the spooky file if the logs do not name it other than
with a split-half search?

And why doesn't it crash at each rescan, but only once in a while with
no apparent reason?

mea culpa, but that not the way to solve it...

if you repair your car cause something is rattling you would fix all
loose joints & bolts you woulnd fix one joint take a look if the
rattling is gone and if not unscrew that bolt again - but thats very
similar what you do.

When is the server crashing?

Believe (take look at my account) i am using that lms since 11 years and
usually its always the same.
LMS (and all former versions with another Name) only crashes when you ve
got some spooky files it has to manage.

Sometimes a bug is intruduced but when this happens - more than one user
is moaning about that and it would be fix as soon as the bug is
introduced.

If your familar with sql and the server is crashing on you might find
the issue easy.

A Split-Half Search would be indeed the fastest way to identify the
faulty element if the problem was constant.

But it's not: I get a crash when I scan, and if I rescan again, the
crash is gone.

Since crashes appear less than once a week, I would too live with 50%,
25%, 12.5%, etc... of my music for a long time.

I changed the name of this directory that *looked* like the one last
scanned before each cash, even though we did not understand how LMS went
there. Let's see what the log says if there is a new crash.

remove all the 3rd party plugins.

- go to the filesystem on that drive
- make 3 folders

Not the issue either. I did try to put the playlist elsewhere, and got

sorry, i am out of everything...

what drive letter you are using is trouser like jacket - the point is

no one - even me - does need a complete /24 ip range for his stuff -
dividing a ordinary 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x to two /25 and using a
router is afaik more useful and waterproof than using official addresses
with two nics.
And these out of the boy allinone router/bridge/wlan devices supports
such things out of the box (unless they are built around 1990).

I would say (excuse me i am just some certified network freak) you
should alter your setup to a common setup and after that try lms again -
it wont fail again when the circumstances are more common or best
practice.

B:\ is RAID appearing as a SATA drive, nothing more:

'[image: https://s24.postimg.org/yg648hha9/Drives.gif]'

The problem appears to be that the server log shows some access to D:\
(another SATA drive), while nothing in the configuration points to D:\.

The config on the crashing server is pretty simple:

'[image: https://s24.postimg.org/bfzgw5jgh/LMS.gif]'

I mistyped, the default range of my provider box is 192.168.1.x.
168.x.x.x would not be a problem anyway since it's on the LAN side. My
main network is 192.9.200.x which is also an official one I think, and
that never was a problem.

The point was just that the same folder B:\Music is used by 2 different
LMS instances, running on 2 different networks bridged through a VMWare
virtual machine so that only this folder is common to the 2 networks. If
my WIFI is compromised, the main network remains invisible.

The second LMS server never crashed, but I don't do many rescans with
it.

That's the only unusual thing with my setup, aside using B:.

I tried to make a junction on C:\Music pointing to B:\Music, so that LMS
could browse into it. That did not prevent the crashes, so using B: is
not the problem I think.

If you mean on Windows, the Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk
Management allows to map A: and B: in the same way as any other letter.

I do have a A: drive too. Never had any problem using A: and B: for
anything so far. Counting all my network shares, I'm almost out of
letters, so I also have drives mapped to folders.

If you mean with the LMS UI, by entering the path directly, since the
LMS browser does not show B:.

This is nothing in the settings that points to ihumor.

I scanned my library and playlists to search for either the name of the
directory ihumor or for the funny-thelink file itself, nothing. Then I
scanned it for any file containing one of these 2 strings, still
nothing.

Then I made a script to look for any symlink, nothing!

I also made a clean D:\m1\ihumor\funny-thelink.gif from
D:\m1\ihumor\funny-thelink.jpg and erased
D:\m1\ihumor\funny-thelink.jpg.

Finally, I changed the name of d:\ihumor to d:\ihumor2.

We'll see if LMS crashes on ihumor2 now!

What's weird is that there is no mention of
D:\m1\ihumor\funny-thelink.jpg in the scanner log.

Thanks for your help.

And it crashed on that ihumor folder again. You'll have to figure out

It could be the drag & drop feature into the web interface that triggers
it.

You don't have any links from your music folder to this somehow?

BTW, usually it's best to have the playlist folder outside of the music
folder.

I made the test to stop the second (virtual) server, but the first one

Noted. I was trying to show it in the post, next time I'll attach it
instead.

I'm thinking that I have a very unusual setting: I don't want WIFI users
to see my internal network, and yet I need the music folder to be
visible on some Logitec wifi based players.

So, I have 2 different networks, with a NAT router separating then. 168
address for WIFI, and 192 for the main network.

I have a PC with 2 network cards, the second one (168.x.x.x) is
connected on the WIFI side of the router and everything on it is
disabled except VMWare networking. Then I run virtual machine who
connects to 168, and exports the Music folder from the 192.x.x.x
network. I run a Logitec server in the Virtual machine on the music
share.

Bottom line, Wifi users that only access the 168..x.x.x network have
access to a server that sees the Music folder which is actually on the
192.x.x.x network.

So, 2 servers use the same Music folder. But they don't use the same
playlist folder, that would be a mess!

It's been a while I did that, and the crashes are more recent.

I could add a drive, and duplicate the Music folder with daily automatic
syncs if it's necessary, but that would be a (mild) annoyance.

I scan music only.

I see that the file is: D:\m1\ihumor\funny-thelink.jpg

But I haven't set up the D:\m1\ihumor directory to be scanned!

'[image: https://s16.postimg.org/hj6zlz0e9/logi.gif]'

Any idea why this directory is scanned?

Thanks for your help anyway!

With a new install, it's short, but the forum does not allow to post it
entirely, so here it is:

zip it, it should pass then (next time).

Your log file featured two or three messages about the database being
locked. This should not happen in regular use.

There's one message about a funny-link.jpg or similar. Are you scanning
image folders, or music only? If you only want music, then make sure you
disable scanning of images and videos in the settings (can be defined
for every path entered).

If you wanted to scan that image, could you drop me a copy so I can
investigate:

I restarted, added a couple of albums, and got a new crash after the

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Server keeps crashing

2016-12-02 Thread Bobsq

Hi,

I'm using LogitechMediaServer-7.9.0-1477086729 on Windows 7 x64.

A while ago, it started crashing regularly, maybe after an increase in
the number of albums, I'm not sure what's been triggering the crash.

I tried a complete uninstall, clearing all data, removed all the plugins
I don't use, but I still get a crash every time I make a scan, full or
partial, needing at least 2 restarts until it works again.

How can I diagnose what's happening?
