Awesome. Thank you so much - this one works for me.

After installing its latest version through QNAP OS Appcenter, info page
of LMS says

Perl-Version: 5.30.1 - x86_64-linux-thread-multi
IO::Socket::SSL: 2.060

The 3rd party plugin page is enabled and I have already tried out some.

The level of SSL/TLS support is all to do with the underlying OS and
packages provided with the OS. Latest version of security packages are
not offered for old versions of OS.

Fom the LMS/Docker/QNAP thread I posted - it seemed to work out easily
for the user and easier than OP thought.

If you use internet services such as internet radio - it will get worse.
More and more station are changing over to https as the only service -
sometimes they do it overnight with no warning.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I'm running LMS 8.2.0 (latest nightly
release, Logitech Media Server: Unix Tarball (i386, x86_64, i386
FreeBSD, ARM EABI, PowerPC from
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/8.2/lms/64adf61647ea8d534cca588b1dd9d0ea6ee9ccbf/logitechmediaserver-8.2.0-1620914398.tgz)
on latest QNAP OS. So there is nothing I could do to be more up-to-date
with these binaries.

Docker is a completely new territory for me and I feel like I have to
accept the fact I cannot use any of the latest plugins for LMS. Could be
worse. Thanks again.

In general terms, I cannot provide any QNAP or SSOTS specifics.

In the last 12 months https has become ubiquitous and nearly the default
option for many services including cloud spaces where many repositories
are stored.

LMS has added https and realistically LMS 8.1 and higher is requieed for
modern services & plugins.

To use LMS 8.* IO::SOCKET::SSL requires version 2.06 and this in turn
requires openssl of version 1.1.* - these are all layered on the
underlying OS.

If the underlying OS is "Old" (maybe more than 18 months) then support
for openssl and IO::Socket::SSL will not be adequate. All the earlier
posts in this thread are about 3 years old.

You have choice upgrade QNAP to latest and see if LMS can be made to
work OR get a Raspberry PI or Polyvection' server or separate another
LMS server and use QNAP (without upgrades) as a file servers.

For Synology x86 systems - there is a Docker based solution to provide
LMS. Is there Docker on x86 QNAPs ?

The Settings/Information shows as follows:
IO::Socket::SSL: None

I know that my installation is missing this piece and that's the reason
LMS cannot access the web pages of the 3rd party plugin providers as
these are all offering https only.

What I need to know is: Where to download and how to install the missing
SSL library for Perl (step-by-step) w/o breaking SSOTS package, as
reportedly this happened to many others before trying to fix this
issue.

Thanks again for any helpful advise.

2021-05-15 Thread Paul Webster

If you go to the web interface of LMS and the Settings/Information
what do you see for Perl Version and IO::Socket::SSL:

Should be something like:
Perl Version: 5.32.0 - arm-linux-gnueabihf-thread-multi-64int
IO::Socket::SSL: 2.068

If your IO::Socket::SSL is much older then it will fail when trying to
connect to some destinations ... which is probably what is happening to
you.

Fokks, after searching the net for 4 hours I still have not been able to
conclude on a step-by-step procedure to fix this issue.

Background:
Runnung LMS 8.2 (beta) on SSOTS 4.14 on x86 QNAP TS-451+ device -
everything works fine but I wanted to check for some 3rd party plugins
which I may find useful just to get the error message that none of these
repositories is a valid sources as LMS cannot connect to these due to
lack of IO::Socket::SSL library installen in Perl.

Any help available? Highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So I managed to get past the perl problem. The perl program? in

I installed through QNAP GUI -> App Center -> Developer Tools -> Perl
5.10.0.2. That resulted in new perl installation in
/share/HDA_DATA/.qpkg/Optware/bin/
I added that to by PATH=$PATH:/share/HDA_DATA/.qpkg/Optware/bin/. Then I
went to dir
/share/HDA_DATA/.qpkg/LogitechMediaServer/tmp/Mozilla-CA-20160104 and
typed:
perl Makefile.pl (as perl in env PATH).

I have had a TS-251A for a few weeks now, after my 9 year old TS-239 Pro
gave up the ghost. It's certainly much quieter than the TS-239. I have
