For security a lot of routers have a default setting that prevents wifi clients from communication with each other. If there is a network issue, how you have setup up the Linksys device is probably the key. I'm guessing the switch is a basic "dumb" unmanaged consumer device. The simplest setup would to set the Linksys device as a AP and all routing, DHCP, DNS are done by Vodafone router. Otherwise you could have two interconnected routers that can route - that needs to be setup carefully. > In general, yes I use DHCP. Most modern routers allows users to set defined IP address according to MAC and so all devices can be setup to be DHCP and all IP assignments are then managed from the router. Since NAS is setup manually - you need to make sure network interface setting (i.e. address mask, default route address) are the same for DHCP assigned devices and the NAS device. > I think I had assumed discovery was the other way - players discovering > LMS on local network. Everything is 192.168.1.something. I haven't done anything fancy to separate into segments. But the network is maybe a little more complicated... the Linksys is just wi-fi. There's a Vodafone router (with wifi disabled), then a switch, then the first linksys mesh device. So maybe the vodafone and linksys are getting in each other's way? In general, yes I use DHCP. But for the NAS, I did use the NAS's own network settings to choose a static IP within the 192.168.1.xxx range. I did this because I access it by IP, and want to be confident it'll stay where it is. I think I had assumed discovery was the other way - players discovering LMS on local network. But the way you're describing it, it sounds like it's actually the other way around. So maybe I didn't reboot things in the right order. musicalrower's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49347 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116139 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

For completeness, some switches can do VLAN and so devices can appear to be on a different LAN segments but you haven't done anything like this. I presume you are using DHCP to let Linksys equipment allocate IP addresses. Discovery is done using Broadcast UDP packets. The broadcast only happens when a player is rebooted/powered up . Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] No players connecting to LMS
musicalrower wrote: > Players were definitely connected to network - could see them in > mysqueezebox . Just to be clear, players show up in mysb.com if they have ever been connected, even via different network, etc. Even if they are gone. They just stay there until they are deleted. I have players in mysb.com that I don't even own, I set them up for a friend! But, as you mention, they show connected when they are connected to mysb.com. So, if you are connected to LMS and you go setting-advanced-networking-connect to mysb.com, you should see them connected in mysb.com. Similarly, you go to my music, and they should show not connected. My suggestion on ethernet was just temporary, as a test, say with the radio, just to take wifi out of the equation. But, thats just a wild guess, and your issue has me (and you) baffled. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] No players connecting to LMS
Players were definitely connected to network - could see them in mysqueezebox (although now I've set it to remote library, mySB is showing them not connected, which feels like it's to be expected) NAS and LMS were definitely connected to network - could access the :9001 interface on a laptop that's on the same wi-fi network as the players. I could try playing with ethernet, but only one of my players is in a room with a network port (I did have networking throughout my old house, and that's when i last had SB really running properly). But right now it works, and unless there's a really good reason to, I'm afraid to go changing things! musicalrower's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49347 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116139 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

There are so many members here that are better at answering your network/LMS questions than I. @bpa is one of them. Lets hope a few chime in. You really shouldn't need to use remote library, that's for...remote libraries. There are two connection points, your network, then LMS, lose your network and lose LMS. Do your players connect to your network but not LMS? I had problems with receivers on wifi that would not connect or drop. Ethernet solved that (for the receivers). You could just try an ethernet cable on the same switch network as your nas, just to see if it behaves. Like @bpa said, the players should discover LMS on their own. If you do try ethernet, with the radio (and touch?) you may need to go into settings to switch. Not sure if the power/+ will reset that. Not sure about alot of things actually ;) Jim Redrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116139 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

LMS was definitely running - I can see the UI on port 9001 of my NAS. But autodiscovery just isn't happening for some reason. The manual step of connecting to remote library and giving it my NAS ip address is doing the trick though. In doing this, am I missing out on anything? Any extra connectivity feature that comes of being autodiscovered? The players are all on a wi-fi (Linksys mesh setup) that's connected to a switch, and my NAS is connected to that same switch. So I think it should be discoverable. I haven't taken any advanced steps in network management. musicalrower's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49347 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116139 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I just rebooted the one that I had done the factory reset on, and that did the trick thanks! I did just power it on earlier, - after the factory reset but before I did the step of add new library. Is the trick that I needed to do the reboot after that too? I've also done it on the Touch that I didn't reset today - also fine (and again I did just power it on earlier today, but before the step of add new library) The Radio is all the way upstairs, so I'll do that later. musicalrower's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49347 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116139 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] No players connecting to LMS
In rereading the first post, I don't see any indication that you confirmed that LMS is running? @bpa, is there a way to do that other than the UI or a player? Maybe find the ip address and add :9000/? and see if the UI pops up? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] No players connecting to LMS
I read your post earlier and since I didn't have a definitive answer, I thought I would just let one of the heavy hitters (the ones who know) chime in...:) You should not need to use remote libraries. You also really should not need to have the mysb.com integration working to use lms. Really, when a player comes up, it should "find" LMS as long as it's on the same network, and it's not looking for something else (like your old network). It has been a while bringing a touch into the mix, but I do it all the time with radios, so give this a try - make sure LMS is running full power off your radio (blank screen) press and hold '+' then press and hold power until the buttons flash, screen comes up. go through the setup, pick your network, then it should connect to your LMS. Like you said "my music" should take you there. This way you can test the players connection to the network, then LMS, and see where it fails, if it does. with the mysb.com integration (separate subject) I always test by going to favorites->on mysb.com (on player) or, switch to mysb.com is in the menus somewhere (settings-advanced-networking?), and see if I see my mysb.con favs (which are different). You can use my music to go back. A couple users have had the mysb.com credentials in LMS look ok, but when they reentered and restarted, it revealed they weren't ok. Ah, I found the Remote Libraries > Add new library setting. Doing this, I'm being told that my server's version of LMS is too old. I will take questions over to the QLMS thrread, but does anybody know what version of player and server I should be using? musicalrower's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49347 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116139 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
