Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Speaker for garden. Bluetooth?
Libratone Zipp 2 arrived today - and is now up and running. I deliberately went through the set-up without using their app or the Apple special Airplay Setup stuff (detects the device and offers to set it up from the iOS WiFi page). So I did it all from regular Windows machine over WiFi and web browser. Now playing via Airplay Bridge. Tried via UPnP Bridge first and it played 5 seconds and stopped ... I'll research that later (maybe). Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Speaker for garden. Bluetooth?
... that is just thining about it from LMS side of things. Maybe you can use the AirPlay functions in iOS to set them as a stereo pair ... I think I remember Philippe saying that even though stereo pair is talked about as an Airplay 2 feature it actually worked with AirPlay 1 as well. I think wait for the definitive on this from Philippe ... so maybe ask in the AirPlay Bridge thread or link from there to here. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Speaker for garden. Bluetooth?
You can experiment set the "Output Channel Mode" for the device ... (Left/Right/Mono) ... and see if it filters as you would hope LMS/Settings/Player/the airplay device/Audio If it does then you should be able to set one as left and one as right and then put them in a sync group ... might work. Would mean that if you wanted to have just one playing by itself then you would have to go back to the settings and make it Stereo (and have the device combine) or Mono (and let LMS/bridge? combine). Good experiment. There are allot of radios on the US ebay and many offer overseas shipping (not sure where you are located). All you have to do is swap out the adaptor. I check in on ebay here is the US frequently and there is always an abundance of radios. Touches and Booms are more rare (and seemingly more desirable = higher price). The radios generally for for about $50 - $70 USD. I have bought a few, use 2 and have 2 in storage. The dac32 is using the same (in essence at least) software as SqueezeAMP but does not have a built in amplifier so you lose one potential benefit. Sorry, I forgot to mention I use the Squeezeplayer app which registers the phone with LMS as a player. LMS Material app used for control and music beamed to the speaker (a Logitech Boom bluetooth speaker ironically). I leave my phone on the table because when I wander off my wife will immediately want to turn the volume down! As my son said to me "Dad, you drive way too fast, turn the music down you are deafening me". I punched the air after that one! Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Speaker for garden. Bluetooth?
pCP has a really nice bluetooth support option, as Paul says. The drawback, for me, is that you have to go back to the specific host pCP prefs to re-connect your BT speaker if you turn it off or use it elsewhere. That adds a bit of friction to the experience that I dislike and that others in the household find wholly untenable. I'd also love to learn that there's an easier way. It would be neat if there were a way to reconnect BT devices from LMS rather than the individual pCP prefs page, which would reduce that friction. As it is, I found that a true LMS player was a better UX overall because it just appears in the LMS player list when powered on, unlink my BT devices. In my case, a Squeezebox Radio, but soon I will play with a SqueezeAMP. benh's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6732 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114356 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Speaker for garden. Bluetooth?
pCP can drive a bluetooth speaker using the built-in Bluetooth ... but it might work better with a Bluetooth dongle instead of the internal one. However, Bluetooth does not travel very far ... so how far away is your garden listening point from your RPi ? A battery powered AirPlay or Chromecast device might be better since they run over WiFi which will travel further (and use the batteries faster). Another route is SqueezeAMP embedded inside a passive speaker and powered by recharagable batteries.
