Re: [freenet-support] Hello - my Freenet is dead

2015-11-08 Thread Stephen Oliver
Hi,

Installing Java 1.8 *should* have replaced the Java preferences panel
completely. So I don't think Java 1.8 actually installed properly, both
because Freenet is clearly using 1.6, and because you can still see Java SE
6 in your preferences pane. That old Java Preferences pane should have been
completely replaced by the Oracle Java Preferences, which you don't seem to
have.

My advice is to reinstall Java 1.8 again, download it from [0] if you need
to, and then restart Freenet from the web interface. The warning you see
about Java 1.6 should then go away. If it doesn't, try restarting your Mac.

The problem with the tray icon being "dead" is well known, it's been fixed
but the fixed version hasn't been included in the installer yet. Sorry for
the trouble! :)

[0] grab "jre-8u65-macosx-x64.dmg" from here:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html

2010-01-08 Thread zhan karibzhanov
Hello, I can't open freenet on Mac OS X even by addressing proxy
http://127.0.0.1:/. There isn't shortcut or anything anywhere. I'm using
Camino Browser. Mac OS is 10.6.2. My specification surpass requirements. I've
got mobile broadband, and wireless, so I use both. At first I downloaded, and
started it by broadband. It doesn't work from broadband, or wireless.

Could you be a bit more specific? Were you using the graphical installer
(new_installer.jar / the Java Web Start thingy) ? At what stage did you get
what error message? A screenshot would be ideal...

If the uninstaller has been installed, use that to remove Freenet, otherwise,
just delete the directory and try again.

Thanks.

[freenet-support] Hello and Question about win98se

2006-06-20 Thread Matthew Toseland
Windows 98 has some problems... but these should be less on 0.7, and I
don't know what the problem is in this instance.

Are you trying to run Freenet 0.7 or Freenet 0.5? Did the installer
create a directory with some jar files and so on in it?

If i'm not mistaken The Developers stopped supporting 98 a little while back...
and
unfortunately i don't know enough to help you out.

I can recommend another operating system (i'm not being an asshole, but trying
to help as
much as i can).

Is this your own computer and can you actually chose to install a different OS
on it?
Are there programmes that you need that must run under Windows/DOS?

I would advise to go with Ubuntu (free and gratis) or XPCorp (proprietary and
costly).
Ubuntu definitely works rather well with Freenet (that's the setup that i have
now) and
there are many people who'd happily walk you through what-ever problems you
might have
(especially if you ask politely, which seems to be the case... q;-D ). I had
Freenet
running on 2k3 also, it worked rather well.

P.S. It's also not very clear if you are talking about 0,7 (new freenet) or 0,5
(old network).

Um, freenet doesn't work that way. You are saying that you can only
connect out on port 5190? What about email, web, etc? Surely port 80 is
available? You will need to run the freenet server on some port, but it
will need to be able to connect to other freenet nodes on other ports.

 Thanks in advance!

There are two basic ways to use Freenet today (that I know of). The
first way, the way that I do it, is to surf Freenet like you used
to surf the WWW before Google. You start at one site, and follow
links to another site, and so on. The site you want to start with
is The Freedom Engine, which has links to dozens of other sites
(much like Yahoo!'s categorical index, but smaller). TFE is linked
from the gateway page (http://127.0.0.1:/).

The second way is to use a separate Freenet application called Frost.
This runs as a standalone Java program that communicates with Freenet
and implements some sort of message board thing. I don't use it
myself.

Hi Kostas,

I don't know what you mean with blue window but it seems that your Java
Environment isn't setup quite well.
I think you are working with Win98 or so.
You should have an File called FLaunch.ini in your Freenet Directory.

Please Check the setting for Java and adjust the Path settings to your needs :

[Freenet Launcher]
# Javaexec should point to your Java Runtime binary (jview.exe or java.exe)
javaexec=D:\jdk1.3.0_02\bin\java.exe
javaw=D:\jdk1.3.0_02\bin\javaw.exe

Mak

P.S. You should use the new installer freenet_setup0.3.9.1-1.exe .
