This would be very beneficial for me too. I can't find anything close to

can't believe they just don't bring it back to 2.02.

This is to inform everybody that he should

I had installed SM2 without removing first SM1:
- I encountred a mixed between SM1 and SM2 in the Start - All
Programs - Seamonkey
- Then to eliminate the mix - i used add/remove program to Remove SM1.
- The mix dissappeared - so far so good - BUT also the link to start SM2
by using Start - All Programs - Seamonkey

To remove this problem:
- I used add/remove program to Remove SM1.
- I used add/remove program to Remove SM2.
- And finally i install SM2 by running the donwloaded SeaMonkey Setup
2.0.2.exe.
- Now the Start - All Programs - Seamonkey is ok and suit SM2
only and completely.

So i repeat:
- First use add/remove program to Remove SM1.
- Then Install SM2 by running the donwloaded SeaMonkey Setup 2.0.2.exe.
To avoid the problem i encountered.

I installed SeaMonkey 2.0 under Windows XP back in October and now have
SeaMonkey 2.0.2. I just now removed SeaMonkey 1.1.18 without any
problem. I did not have to reinstall SeaMonkey 2.0.2.

I initially installed SeaMonkey 2.0 in a different folder than SeaMonkey
1.1.18. My four profiles for SeaMonkey 2.0 were also under a different
folder than the profiles for SeaMonkey 1.1.18. For the startup, I
created separate folders for the two versions of SeaMonkey, both under a
single Mozilla folder, which also has the startup for Thunderbird.

Obviously, if I wanted to install and use two different versions, I had
to avoid overlapping the two versions.

Nice to know that you don't get any problem ... but could you start
SeaMonkey by using this way: Start - All Programs - Seamonkey ... ?

Yes. Because I set my Start Menu Properties in Windows XP to Classic
Start menu and because I group SeaMonkey and Thunderbird together under
Mozilla, the sequence is [Start Programs Mozilla SeaMonkey2
SeaMonkey]. Before I removed SeaMonkey 1.1.18, I also had [Start
Programs Mozilla SeaMonkey1 SeaMonkey]. This was part of how I
avoided overlapping the two versions.

Ok, now i understand.
I had installed SM1 all by default, then installed SM2 by default.
Finally i removed SM1 and the problem was that the start-browser and the
start-mail dissappeared from Start - All Programs - Seamonkey
because SM1 and SM2 have different repositories, different program
locations but have the *same* location for the start links under Start
- All Programs - Seamonkey.

Instead, I escape the command with a back-slash, which causes the actual
command to execute instead of the alias. This keeps the safety of the
alias but allows me to intentionally bypass it.

The command
\rm abc*
will ignore the alias and remove all files in the current directory
whose names begin with abc without any prompt for confirmation.

I escape the commands rm, cp, and mv when I use them in a script.
However, I don't escape them until after I have tested the script just
in case I have an error in the script.

When a popup is blocked, a little icon is shown in your browser (for me,
it's at the bottom right, but I don't know if it's standard). You can
click on it to change the behaviour.

Also, you can go in Tools - Popups to accept or refuse all popups from

This has been there since 2.0 FIX IT (please)

The proper term in Windows is Internet Shortcut. I use these for
sites that I might want to visit again over a short period of time and
then never again. Thus, I don't want to added them to my bookmarks.

Do the following check:

1. Open My Computer.

2. On the menu bar, select [Tools Folder Options].

3. On the Folder Options window, select the File Types tab.

4. Near the top of the list of Registered file types, you should see
an icon with (None) for the extension and Internet Shortcut for the
file type. Select that entry and then the Advanced button.

5. On the Edit File Type window, select Open under Action and then
select the Edit button.

6. On the Editing action for type: Internet Shortcut window,
carefully examine the path to SeaMonkey in the Application used to
perform action area. Does the path point correctly to where you
installed SeaMonkey? If there are any blanks in any of the folder
names, the entire path -- including the seamonkey.exe -- needs to be
enclosed in quotes. The quotes do not include the %1 at the end,
which is separate from the path. If any of this is awry, correct the
path; be sure to include seamonkey.exe at the end.

7. Conclude by closing each window by selecting its OK button.

NOTE: If there is no entry for Internet Shortcut in step #4 above,
you have a Windows problem. Let me know.

I have reason to believe that in many cases, but other reasons may

After a few windows crashes I found it to be a good rule to save data

This is wrong. Windows always asks if you are sure when deleting a file.
When you empty the Recycle Bin, it also asks if you are sure.

When a popup is blocked, a little icon is shown in your browser (for me,
it's at the bottom right, but I don't know if it's standard). You can
click on it to change the behaviour.

Also, you can go in Tools - Popups to accept or refuse all popups from

Unless you have installed 2.0.x *over* 1.1.x (that is, right in the same

different profile. It simply copies the necessary data from 1.1.x to
create a brand new 2.0.x profile

Now if you have installed everything over in the same folder, that is a
whole other story and a simple case of PEBKAC.

Interviewed by CNN on 18/1/2010 14:25, Klaus Weber told the world:

After a few windows crashes I found it to be a good rule to save data
not on the system partition but on a separate partition, better even on
a separate hard disk. Unfortunately I could not find a simple
possibility to move also documents settings to another partition.

Well, there are a few tools and tutorials out there that claim to do
that. However, I never liked the idea of messing with the basic settings
of a system post-install -- too much room for it going spectacularly wrong.

A better approach, I think, is to do it *during initial setup*. nLite
(http://www.nliteos.com) is free and allows you to create a customized
XP setup disk, changing a lot of parameters -- including the default
location (and even names) of system directories. I did it when I
reinstalled XP a few years ago, and it worked without a hitch.

If you have Vista, there's a sister project called vLite
(http://www.vlite.net) that should be able to do the same. I never
personally tested it, though, so I can't give personal experience on this.

typed it correctly...

Thank you David.
I went as you suggested and found that in the application used to open
there was thisrundll32.exe ieframe.dll,OpenURL %l

I browsed to my SeaMonkey folder and changed it to
C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe %1
Did not make any difference
Then changed my DDE Message to reflect what is in a similar spot for
FireFox to %1,,0,0
Application I changed to SeaMonkey; nothing in DDE application not
running; and in topic changed it to WWW_OpenURL

But.. still no joy, I still get the windows error message.

email/News and the you click button to browser. The cure is go to home
page by clicking on home page (if you set one) Then shut down SM and
reopen. And will suddenly do that even if you have both set to open at
same time. In that case go to home page clicking home button. then going
to Preference Browser and in window showing homepage location delete
what's in the in the window. (everything even returns) then click on
*use current page* in either case fix last about week to two weeks.

VML/SVG

2010-01-18 Thread n...@home

I'm using SM 2.0.2

When I use the Best Western web site, it whines that my browser does not
support SVG and VML. I don't know what those are, but it appears to be
related to using a map they display.

Is there an add-on I can use to get this capability. Its hard to pick
one from the plugin site when I don't even know what I am looking for.

Re: How to start SM Browser with a spécific p age/file

I have a link on my desktop to Start SM Browser.
Using it bring me SM Browser with his Home page.
Is it possible to modify a copy of this link in such a way that the
browser start and display a spécific page like:
file:///C:/Program Files/GIMP-2.0/share/gimp/2.0/help/fr/index.html
?
(in case SM is not the default browser)
If you want your browser to open to a specific page from a shortcut on
your desktop. Go to your page however you normally do then grab the
favicon to the left of the URL (your mouse pointer will become a
hand)and drag it (right mouse hold) to your desk top.

But you may then have the issue I am grappling with.. an error message
from Windows about not being able to find the file.. The page will in
fact open.. and you will have to close the error message before the
desktop becomes accessible to you. This seems to be a bit of a bug.

They're using a browser sniffer and they don't recognize SM. I went to:
http://www.bestwestern.com/ with no warning. You can report their error
to them or change a setting in SM.
