seamonkey-2.x.. shortcomings (linux)
Hi all I am far from an experienced linux user, however I can find my way around a linux system. I use Puppy Linux which uses Seamonkey as the default browser. Now, in Seamonkey-1.x series I (and all other Puppy users) could drag a link or an image from the browser to a directory and wget would automatically start and download the file. Nice feature. In all seamonkey-2.x series so far this option seems not possible. I have tried static builds, official mozilla builds and have compiled seamonkey myself (several times) and still can not get this functionality. Is there a ./configure option to enable this? If there is I would have thought it would be the default. Any help will be appreciated. Nail Newsgroup Account Settings and Leave Messages on Server Settings
Background: I decided to install SeaMonkey 2.0.3 on my system yesterday. I also intend to keep SeaMonkey 1.1.18 installed on my system. I allowed the 2.0.3 software to be installed in the default locations--I made absolutely no changes to this process. My operating system is Windows XP SP3. Subsequent Actions Since Installation: I established shortcuts on my Desktop for SeaMonkey 1.1.18 (one for mail and one for browser) and SeaMonkey 2.0.3 (one for mail and one for browser). Both shortcuts are working properly. Problem 1: I am having a problem with the entries listed under Go when I am looking at the 2.0.3 mail window. Here is the problem: When I click Go at the top of the screen (the line just under the blue banner)I see the following: Next Previous ___ Mail Start Page ___ f...@pond.com Local Folders Microsoft Help Mozilla Help etc. All of the letters for Next and Previous are in black letters and the remainder of the entries are in gray letters. I need to know how to make the gray letters black so that I can click on them--so that they will take me to the items clicked. Any suggestions? Problem 2: I want to continue to use 1.1.18 as my default internet capability for now while I learn more about 2.0.3. Thus, I would like to know where the setting is on 2.0.3 that will cause messages downloaded to this version to remain on the server. Rob Steinmetz wrote: Can anyone tell me if there is any difference in behavior in Seamonkey regarding the Archive folder. One thing I have noticed in the SeaMonkey 2,x is that it periodically re indexes mail folder and if you have a lot of mail that can take a long time. I was wondering if the Archive folders are normally skipped in that process. It would seem that they would not need to be maintained at the same level as the main folders. AFAIK SeaMonkey does not periodically re-index mail folders (like TB3's gloda). It does periodically compact mail folders, though, if you configured it like that (by providing a space saving threshold). AFAIK Archives folders are not treated differently there. But unless you delete messages from folders they won't ever need to be compacted so if you always only add messages to Archives folders they won't be affected. On the other hand, since the Archive feature moves messages, the source folders are quite likely to need compaction at some point in time. Information was taken from F:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs. The F Drive is a USB connected hard drive used only for making backups of my system. I renamed the file on the Desktop from SeaMonkey to SeaMonkey1. Next, using Windows Explorer, I moved the SeaMonkey1 file to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs. This allowed me to have access to my SeaMonkey 1.1.18 profile, etc. It seems that everything continues to work properly--the Desktop ICONs and the Start Menu items. Do you foresee any problems with what I have done? No problem, but I think you went way overboard in creating these shortcuts. You could have created them manually in far less time. However, if they're working for you, then I don't see any other problem with them. Puppy must be doing something special, because the term drag a link or an image from the browser to a directory doesn't connect with any behavior I've seen, there being no directory anywhere in sight. As far as the action goes, I assume you would right click and use either save image or save link target to get the pop-up menu and select a destination. Ever since I have been using Puppy it has been the default behaviour to drag and drop files from Seamonkey-1.1x to an oen folder in Rox- Filer, the file manager used in puppy. Barry Kauler, the creator of Puppy actually mentioned his dislike of Seamonkey-2.x on his blog because this is not possible any more. The procedure is very basic, just like dragging one file from one window to another. It works for images or links. Immediately wget starts and downloads the file to the location you dragged. I hope that clarifies what myself and many Puppy users are actually doing. I haven't used Seamonkey 1.1x in another distro so I don't know if it works in other distros. It might well be a Rox-Filer feature, incompatible with Seamonkey-2.x. Lost inbox on 2.0.3 install
I just loaded Seamonkey v. 2.0.3 over 1.1.17 and seem to have lost 43,000 messages in the Inbox. The install seemed normal and asked if i wanted to import a range of information, including mail which was selected. It imported all other boxes and profiles except my Inbox. Re: lost inbox messages on 2.0.3 install over 1.1.7
Interviewed by CNN on 28/2/2010 22:47, u...@domain.invalid told the world: I just loaded Seamonkey v. 2.0.3 over 1.1.17 and seem to have lost 43,000 messages in the Inbox. The install seemed normal and asked if i wanted to import a range of information, including mail which was selected. It imported all other boxes and profiles except my Inbox. Any suggestions appreciated. Well, this doesn't look as a lost messages case, it looks like a failed to import messages case. The messages are PROBABLY still where they always were -- in the old Seamonkey 1.1.x profile. They just weren't copied to the new profile. In this case, the simplest thing to do would be to copy the old inbox. file to the new profile. I really don't remember right now where the old profile is located, but the new one should be on C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\[random string].default\Mail I must warn, while mail folders are pretty safe, most other stuff shouldn't be simply copied from the old profile to the new one -- there were format changes and whatnot that can cause problems. The recommended procedure is to use the import tool. By the way, 43,000 messages is a pretty big inbox. In my experience, after a few thousand messages, performance degrades a lot. You might wish to eventually move older messages to another folder. And... just checking: when you say you loaded 2.0.3 over 1.1.17, did you by chance force it to install in the same folder as 1.1.17? Because, well, there are technical reasons why the default install folder has changed... mainly, that the program changed enough that installing over the old one is a Bad Idea. -- MCBastos This message has been protected with the 2ROT13 algorithm. I'm on 32-bit Windows Vista SP2 running on an HP notebook with the AMD Turion dual-core chip, 3 MB RAM. After about 8 hours of use, suddenly the browser stops working in a curious way - clicking on a bookmark or an embedded URL silently presents a blank page, no complaints, just no pages will display. Email continues to work, until I close all Seamonkey instances while trying to fix the problem. What happens then is Seamonkey pops up a box that complains it is already running, and to close that Seamonkey before trying to run. But there are no visible instances of Seamonkey running. Going to the Task Manager, I see an instance of Seamonkey IS running. So I kill it in Task Manager. Then I kill it again. Then I kill it again ... etc. etc. The Seamonkey process is unkillable. I have to at this point re-boot before the browser starts working again. What can I do to help get this fixed? There is no crash report because Seamonkey is unaware it's munged and unreachable. Problem in copy pasting of multiple e-mail in address bar

I have to copy paste each e-mail individually which takes longtime. Please solve my problem as soon as possible. 2) The E-mail client of Seamonkey does neither receive the mails nor send the mails despite of all server settings(POP and SMTP) are correctly configured. The only message it displays is CONNECTION TO SERVER TIMED OUT OR FAILED TO CONNECT THE SERVER. FYI, I am using multiple e-mail accounts including gmail accounts.
