There are three options for dealing with attachments:

extract - copies the attachment to local storage
detach - moves the attachment to local storage, retaining a link in the
email.

delete - leaves only an indication that the attachment has been deleted.

Deleted Messages Moved to Trash folder as read

Beverly Howard wrote:

Both are set for All therefore it should show all messages.

Anyway, with SM1 deleting an unread message will move it into the
trash with the status unread.
With SM2 deleting an unread message will move it into the trash with
the status read.

This has been discussed in a couple of bug reports:

Seamonkey https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465116

Thunderbird https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475911

Some of the people making comments including Robert Kaiser believe this
has been done by design and therefor should not be fixed (WONTFIX?)

Others making comments believe that if nothing can be done, at least
about:config should have an option so that he user could decide for
him/her self. It would look something like the following:

mail.moveToTrashMarksRead (integer)
  0 move to trash doesn't change read/unread
-1 (or any negative value) move to trash marks as unread
1 (or any positive value) move to trash marks as read.

I could live with an about:config option. My personal use of SM2 is to
download Get messages the first thing in the morning where I usually
get about 10 to 20 most of which I delete. On the weekend, I like to go
through the Trash folder to double check to see if any that I deleted
should have been kept. It makes it a lot easier if the ones that I
haven't yet done my weekend check are still shown as unread (bold)

We strongly recommend that all SeaMonkey and old suite users upgrade to
this latest release. If you already have SeaMonkey 2.0, you will receive
an automated update notification within 24 to 48 hours. This update can
also be applied manually by selecting Check for Updates... from the

I was quite surprised when SM updated automatically to 2.0.5! How do I
prevent this? As far as I can tell, I had it set to only automatic

My concern is an update will disable Lightning, my calendar, and I'd

No, as 1) SeaMonkey 2.0.5 parallels Firefox 3.5.10 which doesn't have
that, 2) we don't like shipping new features in stable releases, and 3)
Firefox doesn't have mail and newsgroups (the code for that is not
working with settings that are a prerequisite for this crash

We still hope to get this to work for SeaMonkey 2.1 but a lot of work is
needed to make mail and newsgroups code ready to work with the changed
build settings needed to do that.

Old Netscape 4 had a capability to create bookmark shortcuts. To the
user, a shortcut looked like an ordinary bookmark; but it would
actually be a pointer to a bookmark. Thus, you could have the same
bookmark in different folders and locations within the bookmark file.
If you changed the URI of the actual bookmark, that change would then be
reflected in all shortcuts pointing to it.

One of the improvements in Mozilla Suite was to eliminate bookmark
shortcuts. That improvement still exists in SeaMonkey. I don't know
if the old capability will be restored when SeaMonkey converts to using
an SQLite database for bookmarks the way that Firefox now handles them.

Assuming (probably unreasonably) that your bookmarks are not organized
into groups, you can easily eliminate dupes using MS Access.

1) Using your text editor, convert a copy of your bookmarks file to the
format

Name[tab]Location[tab]Description
Name[tab]Location[tab]Description
Name[tab]Location[tab]Description
...

2) In Access, create a table in Design view specifying the appropriate
number of fields (Name, Location, Description), and requiring that
Location must be unique (Indexed: Yes, no duplicates). Save the empty
table and display it in Datasheet view.

3) Now go back to your modified bookmarks file and copy the entire thing.

4) In Access, paste/append into the table. Access will reject any
duplicates and ask you whether to nag for each error or just put them
all in an error list. Choose Yes to get a list of errors.

5) Open the table Paste Errors and you'll see a list of dupes showing
Name, Location, Description. You can then delete these in the intact
bookmarks file from within SeaMonkey.

Re: Multiple bookmark entries.

The exercise prompted me to go into the bookmarks (via manage
bookmarks) and take a closer look.

Looking at the bookmarks using the bookmark manager, it became obvious
that the bookmarks contained multiple identical copies of almost the
entire bookmarks file. Not sure how they were created.

Reviewing the tags confirmed that the entries were identical.

I then made a backup copy of the bookmark file, and manually deleted the
obvious duplicate sections using the bookmark manager.

When I then re-ran the TextPad sorting process described in a previous
post, it exposed only a single case of a duplicate url in just over a
thousand bookmarks.

In SM 1.1.x, if you were looking for an email from a specific person,
Quick Search was nice for giving you a short list of the emails from
that specific sender, but now in SM 2, you get a longer list of
everything they sent mixed in with everything they have been copied on;
essentially, everywhere their address appears. In many cases, it's a lot
of emails to fish through. I preferred the previous SM 1.x functionality.

Is there an option or a preference to allow me to use the Quick Search
