To the user, a shortcut looked like an ordinary bookmark; but it would actually be a pointer to a bookmark. Thus, you could have the same bookmark in different folders and locations within the bookmark file. If you changed the URI of the actual bookmark, that change would then be reflected in all shortcuts pointing to it. One of the improvements in Mozilla Suite was to eliminate bookmark shortcuts. That improvement still exists in SeaMonkey. Assuming (probably unreasonably) that your bookmarks are not organized into groups, you can easily eliminate dupes using MS Access. 1) Using your text editor, convert a copy of your bookmarks file to the format Name[tab]Location[tab]Description Name[tab]Location[tab]Description Name[tab]Location[tab]Description ... 2) In Access, create a table in Design view specifying the appropriate number of fields (Name, Location, Description), and requiring that Location must be unique (Indexed: Yes, no duplicates). Save the empty table and display it in Datasheet view. 3) Now go back to your modified bookmarks file and copy the entire thing. 4) In Access, paste/append into the table. Access will reject any duplicates and ask you whether to nag for each error or just put them all in an error list. Choose Yes to get a list of errors. 5) Open the table Paste Errors and you'll see a list of dupes showing Name, Location, Description. You can then delete these in the intact bookmarks file from within SeaMonkey. -- War doesn't determine who's right, just who's left. -- Paul B. Re: Multiple bookmark entries.
The exercise prompted me to go into the bookmarks (via manage bookmarks) and take a closer look. Looking at the bookmarks using the bookmark manager, it became obvious that the bookmarks contained multiple identical copies of almost the entire bookmarks file. Not sure how they were created. Reviewing the tags confirmed that the entries were identical. I then made a backup copy of the bookmark file, and manually deleted the obvious duplicate sections using the bookmark manager. When I then re-ran the TextPad sorting process described in a previous post, it exposed only a single case of a duplicate url in just over a thousand bookmarks. Re: Quick Search changes in SM 2.x.
I just read of some of the new changes that are being placed into Thunderbird 3.1 in relation to it's new search filtering capabilities. This functionality would appear to resolve the issue I had with the change in search that occurred with the transition from SeaMonkey 1.x to 2.x. Does anyone know if there are plans to implement these new search features into SM after the release of TB 3.1? Thanks. Antman008 wrote: SM Community, Seems like the Quick Search feature has changed in SM 2.x. In SM 1.x, the quick search would find Search Subjects or Senders. In many cases, it's a lot of emails to fish through. I preferred the previous SM 1.x functionality.
