Changes in folder deletion?

2011-11-05 Thread Paul B. Gallagher
Useta be, when I deleted a mail folder, it would be moved to Trash, and
I could recover it if I made a mistake -- at least until I emptied the
trash. Now it seems that I'm working without a net -- if I delete a
folder, it's gone instantly, no chance of recovery.

Is there an option I can set to return to the old way, or do I just have

Try: title= or alt=

Try: title=Our summer cottage by the lake alt=cottage picture

The alt attribute is for replacing the image when images are disabled,
or in speech browsers. The title attribute produces the tooltip (except
in certain Microsoft browsers that do not follow standards). Title can
be used with nearly all HTML elements.

I was about to give up on this signature attempt when I learned
about the Attachment of the signature being a problem. I then decided
if there was another way of accomplishing the same thing in a non image
file. I found the answer right in front of me and it seems to work with
few steps involved. Here is what I did (starting from the SeaMonkey Inbox):

1. Clicked Compose

2. Added an Address, Subject, and a Message Text.

3. I then clicked the selection V at the end of the small window
containing Variable Width typed in it. (This small window is located
under the subject space and above the message space. I then selected
Script MT Bold from the drop down list.

4. I next selected the font size for the signature by either clicking
the A Up Arrow or the A Down Arrow.

5. Lastly, I sent the message.

Note: All of the settings I made during this process reverted back to

I hope this all makes sense...if not, let me know. Also, I

The recipient will see your signature in Script MT Bold only if he or
she has installed that font. According to
http://www.codestyle.org/css/font-family/index.shtml, that font
appears on only 58% of Windows systems and not at all on Mac or Linux
systems.

While browsers such as Firefox and SeaMonkey support Web fonts -- where
you can cause a Web page to use fonts from your server even if they are
not on the user's system -- I don't think any E-mail application has
that capability, either for composing and sending messages or for
receiving and reading messages.

Furthermore, there are still a number of individuals who view E-mail
only in ASCII. None of them will see your signature in Script MT Bold
even if they have installed that font.

NOTE WELL: Before anyone revives the argument about ASCII-formatted
E-mail verus HTML-formatted E-mail, please note that I did not say
anything about favoring one or the other. I merely said that some
individuals do favor ASCII-formatted E-mail.

On the SeaMonkey menu bar, select [Bookmarks Manage Bookmarks] or else
(on Windows) use Ctrl-B. Another alternative is to install the PrefBar

Asked and answered. No.

Anyway, if I delete a folder, it shouldn't be purged from Trash
instantly even if I do use the setting you have in mind. It should be
visible there until that time has elapsed.

(It's still there until you compact the Trash folder; you just

No, I didn't say anything about a change. Folder properties, and the
time limit, have been around for a long time. Check your account

You said it by implication.

In older versions of SeaMonkey, if I deleted an individual message, that
meant moving it to Trash, and I could see it there and move it back, and
the treatment of whole folders was exactly analogous: I could see the
whole folder sitting there in the Trash and pull it back out. This is no
longer true -- if I delete a folder, it doesn't show up in the Trash. It
just vanishes.

If you have nothing useful to contribute, I hope someone else will chime in.

Sounds like a corrupt profile. I just created 2 folders under Inbox, deleted
them, and they both went to Trash.

I do have the box in Preferences Mail and Newsgroups General Setting
Confirm when moving folders to the Trash checked, so I get a warning.

Is there an option I can set to return to the old way, or do I just have

Are you aware that shift+delete will delete your message of folder
without moving/copying it to trash!
Delete will flag the message/folder as deleted in the source
folder/folder list. (i.e. they will not be visible), and copy the
contents to trash.

Shift+Delete will flag the message/folder but will NOT copy the contents
to trash.

So until you have compressed, or deleted the trash and compressed the
folders, you can edit the raw data files to recover the messages, and
folders. You can do it either by resetting the flags in
X-Mozilla-Status: (Copy from a live message)

Perhaps you are inadvertently doing a shift+delete

Hope that Helps

I performed the same test, but no folders appeared in Trash. They just
vanished.

Nope, I'm not.
