Problem installing Seamonkey 2.7.1 for a friend

2012-02-11 Thread Steven Silvera
The problem is that they can not connect to their internet provider.
They and I both use comcast.net. I've been connected for years without
a problem. I've called comcast and we are using the correct port and
the server setting are correct. But comcast still does not connect.
Any Ideas?

Do you have a Hotmail account that is actually eligible for POP access? I
seem to remember that the free accounts were changed, oh a decade ago, to
webmail access only -- unless you upgraded to a fee-based account.

SM 2.7 problem downloading Avast free AV

2012-02-11 Thread chicagofan
Have a new Win7 laptop, with new SM 2.7 installatioin, and when I click
to download Avast, it asks if I wish to Save the file, a yes response
gives me a SM download window and nothing happens?

Where do I start to resolve this, without switching to another AV? It
downloads fine with my SM 2.0.14 on an XP laptop.

can u take a screenshot of what the window looks like? like, is it
blank or does it give the options, then when you select it nothing happens?

also, did you try downloading with IE?

lastly, does this occur with ALL downloads or just Avast?

I don't have a Hotmail account, but I have noticed that webmail
providers have been quietly allowing IMAP access in order to be usable
by smartphone/tablet users. For instance, both Yahoo and Mail.com, which
used to allow POP/IMAP access only for premium users, now allow free
IMAP -- but sometimes, not POP -- access.

So, I would try IMAP before POP.

Another Down Load Problem (2.7.1)

2012-02-11 Thread Larry S.
That's three in a row. First it was 2.6.1, then 2.7, and now 2.7.1. In
each case, I attempted to download through check for updates, and in
each case SM installed and ended with the Release Notes/Changes page.
However, when I leave the page and attempt to start SM, I get XULRunner
Couldn't read application.ini. Yes, every time.

So, off to (yikes!) IE to try another download. Finally worked each
time, although I wind up with a very slow SM which eventually gets better.

So, what's happening here? How do I avoid it? Is it better to d/l
through IE than SM?

(Yes, I'm now in the habit of making a fresh copy of my profile before
d/l the new version, and I also keep a copy of the setup file for the
current and previous versions, in case I can't get the new one for some
reason. Thank heavens!)

freepops is not an addon to SM, but a separate program that must be run
along side SM to access various mail providers.

i have it run automatically via the startup folder when windows starts,

Yeah, I had a look around too. Apparently they are deliberately holding
on IMAP in order to push for their proprietary DeltaSync protocol.

But I remembered I have an old Hotmail account I no longer use. I
checked it -- yeah, it is still active. So I tried to set it up in
Seamonkey according to these instructions:

http://www.liveside.net/2009/03/13/pop3-technology-has-now-rolled-out-to-hotmail-customers-worldwide/

...but actually, I just followed the SM new-account wizard and filled in
the blanks. Turns out it download the messages with no problems using
the default POP3 port 110, with no encryption. (Although that might have
been my antivirus, Avast -- there's a gateway to live.com on port 995
that I don't remember setting up, so it might be that it auto-configures
these gateways for known services, so I might be using SSL on port 995
without knowing it.)

Manually changing the options for Connection Security SSL/TLS (port 995)
didn't seem to cause any problems. I also set up SMTP on port 587 (with
STARTTLS) and it worked fine, except for a message telling me to log on
and do a CAPTCHA -- which I wasn't able to find. Now I remember why I
never liked Hotmail...

Header shows wrong tags when displaying articles in a tab

2012-02-11 Thread Rostyslaw Lewyckyj

Currently on SM 2.7, But I don't think it's version dependent!
I have a mail folder with some messages which I think are duplicates,
and I'm trying to check this.

- I tag one article as 'to do' and the other article as 'later'
 - I point to the first and ask for it to be opened in a new tab.
 - I point to the second and ask for it to be opened in a new tab.

I expect that when I go to the first tab the header of the displayed
article will have it labeled as 'to do' and when I go to the second
tab the header will show its tag as 'later'

However in both tabs the displayed article is tagged as 'later' !

If I close the tabs and simply open the articles, they display with
the proper tags.
If I point to the first, the 'to do' article and ask for it to be
opened in a new tab, and then go to that tab, the article is displayed
with the wrong i.e. 'later' tag.

Is this an already known bug?
