Hang on, I am currently using SM 2.7.2 and it works exactly as it;s
supposed to, as far as I am concerned. If SM does not do what you
require, stop bitching and help the SeaMonkey team by providing some
solutions to *YOUR* problems. (I'm guessing that's how the SeaMonkey
team started!!)

Snip

Yes, I understand there are users who are satisfied with the newer
versions. But when evaluating a version I read the complaints and decide
if they are about something that also I will be unhappy with. And it has
been so, to many times.

What, do you want the happy campers to complain about how happy they are??

Sorry, It just my feeling I guess,

Yes.

Snip

That's what a lot of complaints has been about, the upgrading has not
been straightforward. And I don't care about the download history either.

It's not the SM team's problem if the authors of the add-ons that you
rely on cannot be bothered to keep things up-to-date!!

Well, not everybody likes changes, I concede. But it's pretty hard to
avoid them.

But you are trying to avoid it.and blaming everyone else!!

I guess I have to change my Internet habits and in the future settle
with just what is strictly necessary, like paying my bills. :\

Wide Window

Grab hold of one of the sides of the screen with your mouse pointer and
reduce the width of the window.

Works for me!

I tried that several times but that does nothing. When I click on the
sides I get a system error sound (sort of doink) and the bookmark window
flickers a bit. Resizing is impossible, it's fixed and locked.

You don't click the window borders, you hover the cursor and it will
change to a border-dragging symbol. *Then* click (once) and drag the
window to an appropriate width or height. Also, hovering a corner will
change to a diagonal arrow for click/drag.

I can move the window left/right/up/down when I click/grab the top bar
with the red X but nothing else.

That's what you should expect if you click in the window title bar. To
resize it, you need to hover an actual border of the window. This is all
standard GUI stuff from way back to Windows 2.0, and earlier in other
graphical operating systems.

Standard GUI stuff since Windows 2.0 and earlier, You mean DOS 1.0 ?

Yes, very nice explanation, it should work like this, but it did not
because the localstore.rdf file in some way was corrupted as Hartmut
Figge explained to me. I followed his advise and all is well now.

Question for you:

Do a Ctrl-D, the file Bookmark Window pops up, can you hover the borders
to enlarge or decrease the window as you can in the Bookmark manager ?

Yes, I could do this..mind you, the first time I tried it, I
switched to my Browser and pressed Ctrl-D and nothing happened, but then
I went back to my email screen re-clicked on the browser tab, clicked
somewhere in the Browser screen and then did Ctrl-D and up popped the
Bookmarks Manager screen!

Install language packs system-wide in Linux: How?

2012-02-26 Thread pengo

Hi everyone,

it must have been asked a hundred times before, but unfortunately,
having researched the web with a couple of search engines, I was unable
to retrieve a real answer. So, please forgive me, if I have overlooked
something, and point me to the respective information.

I want to install the German language pack system-wide on my Linux box,
so that all users can switch the UI to German, without having to
download and install the .xpi file for each user account separately. I'd
rather download and install the language pack just once.

How would I go about that?

Thanks everyone in advance!

Inappropriate default links for Seamonkey ex nihilo installation ?

2012-02-26 Thread Philip TAYLOR

This is a new build system, and Seamonkey has
been installed /ex nihilo/ within the last month.
Tidying things up today, I decided to investigage
the default links that Seamonkey provides, and
followed the link first to mozdev.org and then
to mozillaZine. I was staggered to find that
not only does the latter proudly state :

MozillaZine's news site has gone into hibernation.

but it then goes on to say :

Are the Seamonkey developers really trying to commit corporate
suicide ?! Why on earth does an /ex nihilo/ installation of

Seamonkey contain a very obvious link to a site that is not
only moribund but which contains an advertisement for an
alternative browser ?

have the standard smaller file bookmark manager window back but in SM
2.7.2 still no way to hover the borders, no arrow cursor symbols and not
 in SM 2.7.2 portable.

You can't even do this in Firefox 1.0.0.2, try it, I can't, at least not
 on my system.

Hopefully, you meant 10.0.2 (1.0.n would be quite old).

I have an older Portable SM 2.0.1.4 on an USB stick, there I can do
this. There I see the double arrow cursor symbols in the File Bookmark
window. Here I can make this window smaller/bigger.

I still have SM 2.4.1, although just now I've gotten notice that 2.7.2 is
now available in my Linux repository. I'll probably upgrade later this
weekend.

Recommendations for high-memory usage

2012-02-26 Thread Jesse Molina

Hi all

I use Seamonkey. Both mail and the browser.

My platform is Linux 32-bit.

I leave my computer running constantly and the only time Seamonkey gets
restarted is when it crashes or when it gets so slow that I just kill it
and restart.

I have a tenancy to run with maybe twenty windows, each with an average
of five tabs each.

Eventually, once or twice a week, Seamonkey just crashes or I kill it
because it has frozen up or become so slow that I can not take it any
more. I often find that the first symptom of over-usage is that
drag-and drop of tabs and mail items stops working.

Are there any recommendations for configuration options, environment,
plugins to use/not-use, etc for my situation?

I have gotten into the habit of bookmarking windows and their tabs and
then opening then when I need them, but my usage of so many windows is
legitimate and it slows down my work when I have to go searching the
bookmarks list for the tabs I need to reference.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for me?

Thanks in advance.

A few more things that I forgot to mention...

I have been using Seamonkey since Netscape came in a box. I probably
should start over with a new profile. I have not needed to do that in a
long time though, so some things in there could be slowing me down and I
do not realize it.

I have 16GB of RAM, very modern multi-core CPU etc. Seamonkey only goes
up to 2GB before it maxes out. Right now, I am at 500MB real / 1GB VS.
