That was it! Their View \ Threads menu was short the radio buttons ahead of the
All \ Unread \ etc...

Once All was clicked the messages showed up again and THEN the radio buttons
appeared on the menu options, All being the selected one. Very weird!

Mort, when you delete an e-mail from your inbox, they are really just
marked for deletion and removed from your view. They are really only
deleted when you File->Empty Trash and File->Compact Folders.

Give these a try and see if that helps.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your reply. The deleted e-mails used to disappear from view
and stay away from my view, even before I i did empty trash and compact
folders. Now, they return to my view when I next boot up the PC.

Now, this evening,a new development has occurred: Just within the
"inbox" section, there used to be a "trash" section. Now, this evening,
that trash designation has disappeared, and in its place is a new title,
another "inbox" in italics. This new inbox has a +, which when opened
reveals a new "trash", which is always empty. I do not now where my
original functioning trash box has gone, nor why.I have not done
anything to this system, and have running with my XP SP3 the Windows
Defender and firewall, and antispyware ,and antiviralware.

It just does not make sense to me,and I would really appreciate any
further help.

Thanks a lot.

None of that will be necessary once the View is changed back to All.
AFAIR, "All" is the default setting, so they changed it, probably by
mistake.

Inbox messages disappearing from one POP account after update to 2.10.1

2012-07-12 Thread Michael Lueck

Greetings,

A client has reported that they updated to build 2.10.1 on Windows XP x86. After doing so new messages were disappearing from one POP account's inbox when they would leave that account and come back
to it. All other POP accounts are behaving properly.

The messages would be there and be read. Once they left that folder they would
not be there upon their return.

They found a work-around, which I quote:

I created a subfolder and have a copy of all emails sent to the inbox sent to
the new folder.
The emails stay there. So this can be a work around for now.

Has anyone else seen 2.10.1 doing that sort of nonsense?

TIA!

We use Comodo AV and also Comodo Internet Security (which is AV + FW).

They have hard to find free for personal use versions.

They have some annoying installation-time advertisements in their free version... have to
be smart to install it correctly, unchecking various "help me" check boxes
along the way.

Reminds me... I need to update my blog about installing the latest version and
getting through the check boxes correctly.

Once installed, seems to work well.

- Instead of "Open in Containing Folder", click on "Show in Finder".
- To create a new folder in Finder, go to File-->New_Folder
- To create the userChrome.css file, launch TextEdit then save the file
in your Chrome folder. (Or save it somewhere else, and drag it to the
Chrome folder.)

Hi,

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

J., does the known bug include the forced download of Chrome and its
destructive effects upon my hard drive? Will that also stop? Aside form
the Chrome problem, I was happy with Avast.

Mort

I use an older version of Avast and haven't encountered the forced
download of Chrome but it is a topic of conversation in the
alt.windows7.general newsgroup. I haven't updated my virus database
since people started having this problem.

One reply suggested trying this:

"If you open Avast user interface and go to settings/troubleshooting
there is a box "Do not use Chrome as Avast default browser". Check that
box."

This seems to work for some users but not all of them?

Another reply suggested changing the Update to "Manual" for both the
Virus Database and Program also under Settings.

Another reply says the box to uncheck installing Chrome goes by pretty
quickly.

You could try an older version but I've never used the following web
page for that:

http://www.oldapps.com/avast_antivirus.php

Hi J.D.,

Thanks ever so much for your helpful reply. I have been using manual
update all along. I did find that settings-troubleshooting box re. not
using Chrome, and I did check it now. Let's see if it works.

So many software things seem obvious, once you know them. Getting to
know them is the problem.

Again, many thanks.

Mort

Hi Mort..

You're welcome. I hope changing that setting is the solution. Please
post back with the results. I haven't updated my virus database and I'd
like to know if I'm going to have the Chrome problem. 8-)

It seems like every program update presents the user with new, sometimes
unwanted, options. That's why we have newsgoups!

rjkrjk, check your SeaMonkey (Edit->Preferences->Mail &
Newsgroups->Network & Storage->Disk Space) Disk Space allocation. I may
be that you have reached your limit, so SeaMonkey is trying to download
your new e-mails at the same time as SeaMonkey is trying to compact your
mail folders.

When you "delete" an e-mail in your inbox, it is not really deleted, it
is just marked for deletion and hidden from view.

Try doing File->Empty Trash, then File->Compact Folders. This will
delete all the e-mails that you have marked for deletion from your inbox.

See if you keep getting the conflict message after you do this!!

I was able top change the fonts in the header pane, etc, by using

2.10.1 uses the same profile as 2.0.14, and addons are installed in your

Ah. Dang. I don't want both web browsers to interfer each other. Ugh.

So, using what Philip said, give yourself a new, empty, profile for SM

use the new one, never to interfere with each other (unless you want).
