As the others have said, Composer is a no-longer-supported part of
SeaMonkey. Do NOT expect it to work well nor to have it updated. It
won't be.

You need to move into the 20th century. Well, okay, the 21st century
even.

Get a stand-alone FTP program. There are free ones (mentioned in
other answers.) Learn to use it.

And, unless your use of Composer is anything more than very casual and
just for you, you'd better go buy a good book on HTML and CSS and
start learning. Your use of Composer is rooted in mid-1990's Web
development. It won't cut it today.

Frankly, I wish Composer would be stripped out of SeaMonkey. It's an
abommination that should be banished from the earth.

All it does is cause problems.

Did you not feel that it is there to permit to compose a mail in an html
format.
I know that this composer is old, but, when i compose a VERY SIMPLE web
page, it's wonderful.
I agree totally, it should be stupid to strip off something that works,
even if not as one would like.

I can use it from time to time to make some documentation.

For a ftp client, there is one in total commander...

affected a second computer on the same wi fi network, which occurred
some days after the first computer became infected (I am not sure
this is any kind of virus- but I doubt it) Unfortunately I cannot
post images here, but will supply them on request.

Two things you can do, depending on exactly what happened:

1) If you look right under File Edit at the top of the screen and see
two speckly rectangles, click the longer one.

2) If you look right under File Edit at the top of the screen and do
NOT see two speckly rectangles, do View | Show/Hide | Navigation
Toolbar.

In the first case, it's probably because the user inadvertently clicked
too far left (beside the Back button) and hid the toolbar. With the
toolbar showing, you'll see a vertical speckly rectangle there, and
that's its purpose.

Paul, above did you mean look right under or did you mean look left
under?? ;-)

No, I meant directly under, which is the usual sense of right under.

I should probably have written speckled, too, but my eyesight is not
so good that I can confidently say exactly what the pattern is.

RGR, that makes sense.

To be honest I'm not sure if the HTML mail compose function is tied to
Composer. What I'm talking about is using Composer to create Web/HTML
pages. Back in 1995 it might have been okay but it hardly produces
well-made code by today's accepted standards.

For instance, it defaults to a transitional DOCTYPE and not even a
complete one at that. And you can't change it within Composer. If you
do change it to strict DOCTYPE you'll find the code won't pass validation.

If you have to rely on a WYSIWYG editor move to either Kompozer (not
actively being developed) or Blue Griffon. Both are derived from Nvu
(discontinued) which was derived from Composer. Blue Griffon is the
most up-to-date of all of them.

download manager problem

2014-03-29 Thread berniez
On my spare Windows 8.1 machine, using Seamonkey 2.25, most of the time
when I download a file, it reports in the the download manager that the
downloaded file has failed. This is always at the very end of the
download. If I right click the file and start the download again, it
works perfectly every time. Is there a simple fix for this or a way to
extend the timer when downloading.

Thanks

A quick visit to my search engine finds:

Newsgroup access is limited to customers who opened accounts prior to

They appear to be somewhat crippled. Heck, 30-day retention for text

sync account

2014-03-29 Thread William
I tried to set up a sync account today, and was rebuffed as my email
address was already in use.

I don't remember setting up a sync account before, but there is a lot of
stuff I don't remember anymore. Since I didn't remember the password, I
asked them to send me my user name, but it didn't come, nor was a second
request fruitful. I know SeaMonkey relies on volunteers, and this is a
weekend, but the process seemed automated. So I'll wait a few days for
a response.

Is it possible to recover a password, or to cancel one's account and
start over?

Hey Geoff,
Your suggestion worked!
Why didn't I think of a simple thing like that?
It was a tab that I left up that had something to print.

Moving IMAP local folder

2014-03-29 Thread Mike Doroshenko II
My drive is filling up and I need to move my SeaMonkey profile to
another partition. The profile is bigger than the maildir on the server
by almost a GB, is this for indexes or anything, can the GB difference
of disk space be claimed back by removing the indexes, if any?

Should I move the files before or after changing the Local Directory
Server Setting? I don't want to lose any new mail received if SeaMonkey
sees it's mail on the sever not local and deletes it from the server
thinking it was deleted previously on another client.

Does changing the the ftp in the publishing address to ftps not work?

I would imagine not, Chris. On my OS X system, attempting to access an
ftps://whatever.com URL nets a dialogue box popping up that an
application needs to be used (Yummy FTP, in my case). It seems that FTPS
is not a supported protocol in SeaMonkey.
