This is a known issue, but the trigger is unknown.

You need to openabout:config in the browser and look for one of your
accounts that has been flagged as invalid (mail.server.serverX.valid =
false, where X is a number). The fix involves changing the value of that
key to true or to delete the problem account. Once that's cleaned up,
you should be able to use the account wizard as usual.

The irony is that the only email account which had the variable set to
'false'

was actually the 'news.mozilla.org' newsgroup account.
I changed the variable to 'true'. re-loaded seamonkey, and the account
manager wizard
was working good as new again, i.e. when i went to make a new account i
had all options again:

1. Email account
2. Blogs and news feeds
3. News group account.

What exactly does the message say? File in use? Admin privileges needed?

If file in use, then use Task Manager to see if the process is still
running; if so kill it and reattempt. If not, reboot and then reattempt.

If admin privileges needed, that's normal and if you're an admin it
should proceed once you dismiss the prompt. If you're not an admin, log
off the current user and login as admin.

Hi to all nice enough to reply. Thanks alot. I'll try each method until

Mort Linder

1 - Go to the Chrome directory.

2 - Do a 'Select all' (Control A).

3 - Right click on highlighted files and directories.

4 - Click on Delete.

5 - If you get the Admin Permissions error, go to the directory you get
the error on and repeat steps 2 - 4.

6 - If you can delete all but one or two files in one or more Chrome
sub-directories, do a system restart and repeat the process.

Reason you cannot delete the root directory for Chrome is that some of
the sub-directories use 'inherited permissions' and must be removed
before the root directory can be removed.

There is a handy tool called 'Take Ownership' which makes resolving this
kind of problem very easy. Search for it, read about it, install it, be
happy.

AVG requires that the old version be uninstalled before installing an
update. I almost always go off-line to install any software. I remain
online when only stub installers are available; stub installers require
an Internet connection to download addition files. However, AVG is
always available as a complete installer; so going off-line is not a
problem for updating it.

The most frustrating program that I have had to install or uninstall is
newer versions of doPDF; it fails to install completely and then the

I uninstalled Revo Uninstaller. Unsure of how it would deal with

Seamonkey Account Wizard - BUG - Detailed Explanation Steps to Fix

2014-07-30 Thread Ben
Seamonkey - BUG - Accounts Manager assumes every new account you want is
to be a newsfeed account only - FIX INSTRUCTIONS:

Problem:

You want to make either a new 'Email account' or a new 'Blogs
Newsfeeds' account,

from the Accounts wizard ( File New Account ).
But instead of getting the normal standard 3 questions about which type
of account you

want to make. i.e.

1. Email account
2. Blogs and news feeds
3. News group account.

Instead, the Account Wizard 'assumes' you want to make an 'News group
account.',

it gives you no other option at all.

1. Type the following into the URL Bar (where your internet address shows)

about:config

A window will come up with the following:

!This might void your warranty!
Changing these advanced settings can be harmful to the stability,
security, and performance of this
application. You should only continue if you are sure of what you
are doing.

Press the 'I'll be careful, I promise!' button.

You will now have an entire list of seamonkey system modifiers (or
strings as their often called)
These seamonkey modifiers (or 'strings') have either 1 of the following
values:

1. A numeric value

or

2. An ascii text representing something

or

3. A switch that can be either 'false' or 'true'

The 'value' (the field with that name on the absolute right) displays
what is often called a 'variable'.

This is something that can usually be changed (or though not always).
All the variables are displayed accordingly under this heading/title.

Type the following in the search bar just above the 'preference name' field.
(_NOT_ the normal seamonkey browser Ctrl-F 'Find in page' option.)

mail.server.server

This will (or should) show ALL of your email accounts.

If you have literally HEAPS of email accounts (like say 30 for example),
then one quick way i have found to look for the email accounts(s) that
have the text 'valid' at the very end of them is to do the following:

1. Click on the 'Preference Name' heading/title itself.
This will list all the email accounts listed under this
heading/title in alpha numeric order.
2. Bring the scroll bar up to the very top (can use home and end keys as
well to do this).

Now all of your accounts - email, newsgroups, etc, etc, have a number
associated with them.

Seamonkey Newsgroup Account - Actual example list:

mail.server.server9.valid
mail.server.server9.type
mail.server.server9.storeContractID
mail.server.server9.spamActionTargetAccount
mail.server.server9.socketType
mail.server.server9.port
mail.server.server9.numHdrsToKeep
mail.server.server9.newsrc.file-rel
mail.server.server9.newsrc.file
mail.server.server9.name
mail.server.server9.max_cached_connections
mail.server.server9.max_articles
mail.server.server9.login_at_startup
mail.server.server9.keepUnreadOnly
mail.server.server9.hostname
mail.server.server9.downloadUnreadOnly
mail.server.server9.downloadByDate
mail.server.server9.directory-rel
mail.server.server9.directory
mail.server.server9.daysToKeepHdrs
mail.server.server9.daysToKeepBodies
mail.server.server9.cleanupBodies
mail.server.server9.check_new_mail
mail.server.server9.charset
mail.server.server9.applyToFlaggedMessages
mail.server.server9.ageLimit

IMAP EMAIL ACCOUNT EXAMPLE:

mail.server.server8.userName
mail.server.server8.type
mail.server.server8.timeout
mail.server.server8.storeContractID
mail.server.server8.spamActionTargetFolder
mail.server.server8.spamActionTargetAccount
mail.server.server8.socketType
mail.server.server8.serverIDResponse
mail.server.server8.port
mail.server.server8.namespace.personal
mail.server.server8.name
mail.server.server8.moveTargetMode
mail.server.server8.moveOnSpam
mail.server.server8.max_cached_connections
mail.server.server8.login_at_startup
mail.server.server8.hostname
mail.server.server8.directory-rel
mail.server.server8.directory
mail.server.server8.check_time
mail.server.server8.check_new_mail
mail.server.server8.capability
mail.server.server8.cacheCapa.quota
mail.server.server8.cacheCapa.acl

To quickly find any possible accounts to correct, look for the text
'valid' above the
word 'type' (or just the letter 't' itself) - this is easyer when done
in an alpha numerically

sorted list.

Both of the above are actual direct copies of both my Seamonkey
Newsgroup Account

my IMAP Email accounts of which i have a total of 32.

The number 8 being just 1 account. This list pretty much repeats again
with all my other
email accounts except with numbers ranging from 1 to 32, instead of just
this number 8 account example.
Dont assume that the numbers directly linearly increase in relation to
'When' the accounts were made.
I dont know how the numbers get assigned. It's not important for the
purpose we are trying to achieve.

NOTE: These are the 'strings' for IMAP Email accounts in windows
seamonkey Version 2.26.1

(current at time of writing this).

Because things change and get updated/upgraded over time with newer
release

Guys, this newsgroup is for SeaMonkey support, not Chrome. If you're
having issues with Chrome, it's best to ask in their support forum at

Seamonkey - Account Wizard - BUG - TO: Ray_Net

2014-07-30 Thread Ben

Because there will be other people who will have/experience this problem,
i have decided to give a very specific and custom tailed detailed
walk-through

on the problem, and how to correct it as best i can.

Although the info steps may seem a bit baby like, these instruction
were not directed

specifically back at you.

So please dont be offended by the info - i realise you already know most
of these steps already.

I should have mentioned in my description that it is just as applicable
to pop3 email accounts as well.

If the user is using plain text mail with the signature above the quoted
material on replies, it's possible that SeaMonkey will unceremoniously
drop all the content from replies. If that's the case, a workaround
would be to use your pointing device to highlight the material you wish
to quote before clicking the reply button. SeaMonkey offers selective
replying, so highlighting the quotable material will bypass the dropped
signature business altogether. You should then see all the quoted
material intact.

Warmest regards and good luck with it. If I've described the scenario, a
workaround might be for the user in question to reconfigure their mail
client to place signatures at the bottom of quoted text in replies
and/or forwards.

Re: Cannot delete Google Chrome

2014-07-30 Thread Mort

Hi,

Having exhausted all other modalities, I took a chance and deleted Avast
, then downloaded it again while carefully unchecking the 2 Chrome
boxes. Nevertheless, the Chrome files either returned or stayed,as they
are still there. Now attempts at deletion lead to access denied. It
seems, from the file names, that the Avast and Chrome files are
intertwined.

I give up,.

Thanks for all the advice.

That pesky Avast.
You just clicked too fast. When AVAST reboots it says do you want to
install Chrome in a small check box. If your watching you will catch
it and uncheck it before it installs.

Not sure what to do now since I have always uncheked it. Have you
tried to uninstall AVAST then try to install again and uncheck the
install chrome box on the reboot?

Have you googled uninstall chrome installed when installing AVAST or
something like that?

On this page:
http://www.ghacks.net/2012/02/26/avast-7-will-install-google-chrome-if-you-do-not-pay-attention/

It's written:

If you have installed Google's browser by accident, you can uninstall it
again via the uninstall a program control panel applet. You also need to
open another browser to make that one the default system browser again.

Note: This is not a good idea to remove some stuff of a program, because
the uninstall program may not work due to the non presence of those
removed files.

SOLVED: Making Seamonkey the default browser in Ubuntu

2014-07-30 Thread Cruz, Jaime
FINALLY got my question answered (I asked it about two years ago here
and never got a valid answer). The partial solution is in this link:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2234277

What's missing is that after you've updated the
seamonkey-mozilla-build.desktop file, you have to somehow force the mime
relationships to be rebuilt. The OP of that thread said he rebooted
several times and it magically showed up, but that's not it.

Somehow you have to force the mime-relationships to be rebuilt. I
discovered it by accident when I uninstalled LibreOffice 4.2.5 so I
could install LibreOffice 4.3.0. Once the installation was complete,
Seamonkey magically showed up as a choice in the System Settings
Default Applications tool.

I wonder if there is a command that could force the rebuild of those
relationships? Also, maybe Daniel Folkenshteyn (sp?) could update his
Ubuntuzilla scripts to take care of this automatically?

Hey Everyone,

Again I'm sorry for delays on beta's, and sorry for delays which caused
us to technically skip a gecko release last cycle.

But I wanted to give you all a followup, I'm getting much closer to
getting a beta out there now, and correcting dev versions from our
system, however it looks likely we won't have a release within a day or
two of Firefox this cycle.

I'm going to concentrate our effort on getting a new beta out the door
within a week of Firefox's final release, if for some reason I can't,
I'm planning on backing out my effort temporarily to ship another
sec/stability release based on teh last full seamonkey release.

That sec/stability work would delay our other work here by about a week,
but I don't want to leave everyone stranded with regards to security/etc
any longer than necessary.

If all goes well, I'm expecting to have a final release, based on the
current Firefox release out no later than 2-weeks after Firefox is shipped.

And if everything does go well, we can have yet another new beta after
that.
