Re: Activating Seamonkey

2018-09-26 Thread Frank-Rainer Grahl

Which platform (Windows or Linux) version and in case of Linux distribution?

If Linux x64 make sure you download the contributed x64 build at the bottom.

If Windows you virus scanner might prevent correct execution.

I find Prefbar very useful with both SM and FF. You must download,
install, and configure it separately in each browser.

I responded to this asking how to do it. Then later read other posts
sending me to Prefbar to download. I am Windows 7 using SeaMonkey. Do
I download from SM or from FF. And after I download, what do I do from
there? Thank you but SM almost expects users to be Technicians...user
since 2007. Also 2.49.4 keeps hanging several times every day. I keep
having to shut down and re-launch. Sometimes I just give up and us FF.
I want to keep SM because I have my own domain and get my email there.
Also many videos won't play in SM and I need to go to FF if I want to
see them.  Thanks a bunch... mar...@marico.cc

Linux...set the executable bit?

Firstly though, what is your distro? Where did you download it? For
Ubuntu there is a PPA for ubuntuzilla...

Need more info.

how do I enable UTF-8 encoding for email in SM 2.49.4 linux x64?

2018-09-26 Thread David H. Durgee
I am getting reports from others I exchange emails with of problems with
my email that a search seems to show is this "bug":

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1435536

The work-around appears to be to enable UTF-8 encoding for email, but I
don't see how to do so. When I go into mail preferences and select the
Text encoding tab I see

"Default text encoding" as "Default for current Locale" listed.

When I drop down the menu I see various languages, but no UTF-8 listed.

How do I specify UTF-8 encoding here?

If I select to view message body as simple HTML, and select to view the
summary, I shouldn't get this:

Have I been pwned, Firefox OK, let's ask its Have I Been Pwned
tool (The Register)

Because is HTML, right? It should be converted to a question mark.

This is from the SANS institute news feed here:

http://isc.sans.edu/newssummary.xml

That appears a problem of how do they encode the feed (View Source):

The text is already HTML/XML encoded, and then included literally in a
CDATA section which "disables" the decoding, so you basically get the
HTML/XML source.

Now that you can see the toolbar, you can see that one letter of each
menu item is underlined. ALT plus that letter calls that item: ALT-F
calls "File," ALT-E calls "Edit," etc.

Thank you very much, Paul, Ant and each of you who took a moment to
help. Also, I will keep the new profile idea in mind for other

times I forget the basics.

One by one I am responding to each suggestion that came through so quickly for
the disappearance of my major "tool" bar.

Roger, F11 did make two of the two appearing tool bars disappear and then
reappear, but still no "File, Edit, View" bar. Thanks for the input just the
same~!
