It happened again today.
I read and then replied to USENET post.
My post was tagged "watch thread".
Why?

TIA

If you right click on the message does the "Watch Thread" context
menu item have a check mark? Uncheck it.

 I had -- I date back to Netscape 4.?
My question was why did it happen in the first place.
The behavior goes back quite a ways - gut feel is several releases.

BTW I use
User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.4

Build identifier: 20180711182954

My OS is Debian 9.1

There is a bug on Linux that if you open the context menu with a right
click with the mouse close to the right edge of the pane, a context menu
item will be enabled.

I think that explains other more frequent problems.
I'll attempt to open the menus with intent of using "Tag" or "Mark" options.

What will happen is one of:
the message will be sent to trash.
compose window will open as if I had chosen "Reply ..." .
the message is moved to an archive folder.

The thread mentioned spoke of work arounds.
Will not have time immediately to check if they solve *my* problems.

Thank you.

Re: Migrating FF profiles to Seamonkey

I think that, for versions of SM up to 2.53 and FF up to 52.9ESR,
migrating profile data between them is possible, although just copying
all files directly may be problematic, since some of these files
(including prefs.js) contain 'physical' addresses, specific to each
program/OS, so that, to synchronize/transfer some of the data, you have
to make the necessary substitutions in the files' content.

Mostly for download file location MRUs and some extension locations, but
does not cause problems moving. Have moved profiles drag 'n drop from
Windows to Linux with no problem whatsoever and the profile paths are
very different. I think the extension paths within prefs.js get
autogenerated and get "fixed" upon first run.

Yes, I always suspected SM/FF does that, but have never seen any
confirmation anywhere, plus I'm very wary of "autogenerated fixes" (it
did work fine in one instance but, with several versions involving
XP/W7-SM/FF, the chances of 'wrong guesses' shouldn't be forgotten), so
I try to make the changes manually, editing the files involved.

Moving emails to subfolders in Seamonkey 2.49.3

2018-12-04 Thread Bill Spikowski

I've had this problem before, and it's back.

I have an elaborate folder structure for storing emails, going back maybe 20
years.

Usually it's a snap to drag one or a group of emails from my inbox to a
subfolder. The past few days (on several computers running Win 7 or Win10), the
focus often changes to the subfolder after I drag an email. This happens most
often when the system pauses for moment when the email being moved is hovering
over the subfolder.

I've always assumed that when this happens, the receiving subfolder has gotten
too large, causing the pause -- so I regularly organize the subfolders so that
the top-level receiving subfolders don't have too many messages, and I keep
them compacted.

My usual tricks aren't working any more; I'm wondering if there might be
something else causing this behavior?

You don't indicate what version of SeaMonkey you are having the problem
with or on what operating system it is running.

I suggest installing the latest 2.49.4 version if you are not already
using it

Then we need a link to a site you are getting the certificate errors so
we can test them.

More information about the email account. POP3 or IMAP, provider?
