Re: Is There a Way to Remove the Buttons from the Status Area in Sm2.21
I think the actual question is why did his screen reader suddenly notice these and started reading them out? Phil That is my question. As an experiment, I loaded the previous version of NVDA, which was 2013.1.1. The status line in SM2.21 still reads the extra buttons which say browser, mail and newsgroups, composer, address book followed by the amount of read and total number of messages. It should just speak the amount of read and total messages, so the change is not with NVDA. I guess I should file a bug about this on Bugzilla, but I had hoped that the about:config list might have had an option to hide the buttons without hiding the entire status bar. I've done keyword searches for obvious things like status, buttons, etc. but I don't find anything obvious. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

I'm using a screen reader which has a hotkey to speak the contents of the status line. Re: Is There a Way to Remove the Buttons from the Status Area in Sm2.21
Philip, Thank you very much for giving me some visual info about 2.21. I'm going to try 2.21 with NVDA 2013.1, which is the previous release. It should be easy to locate on Sourceforge. I have, however, used 2013.2, the current version, with SM2.20 and the status line was read properly. Still, I'll file a ticket with them and see if they can look into it, but I'm fairly certain it's something which changed with Seamonkey's email client. Thank you again. Question about Seamonkey Mail Status Bar in 2.21
Before I ask my question, I would like to thank the developers for continuing to develop and support Seamonkey. I really love this program and am so thankful that it exists. I am a blind Seamonkey user using the NVDA screen reader for speech output. I've noticed a change in the way NVDA reads the status bar in the email client starting with Seamonkey 2.21. In prior versions of Seamonkey, the status bar would simply speak the amount of unread messages followed by the total amount of messages in the currently open mail folder. Now, I notice that there are additional buttons or icons in the status area which are being read by NVDA. When I press NVDA's status line hotkey, I'll hear browser, mail newsgroups, composer, etc. and then I hear the amount of messages. This may be OK from a visual perspective, but it presents a lot of unnecessary wording that I'd prefer to eliminate. Is there an option to remove these buttons, either within Preferences or the about:config option? I've also noticed a change in 2.21 which I appreciate. My screen reader is able to provide ascending tones when there is a progress bar which is indicating the percentage of a task in the process of being completed, such as when you copy files from one folder to another. In older versions of Seamonkey, I used to hear these tones when mail was being downloaded, but at some point this capability disappeared. I've noticed that it's back in 2.21, meaning that I now hear ascending tones when mail is being downloaded, giving me an approximate indication of how much mail has been received. This is really wonderful!! Again, thank you for seamonkey. It's a wonderful program. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Re: Odd Downloading Issues with SM 2.9.1
Michael G., I'm noticing that the file in question also hangs and aborts when using IE 8 so this is clearly not Seamonkey-related. I actually did try downloading the file with MSE 4.0 disabled but it also aborted. Someone on another list even suggested that I reset my router. I did this and the same problems occur. (I've since reset my passwords and other network settings from their standard defaults to something more hacker-proof.) David Michael wrote: David Goldfield wrote: Do you have Anti-Virus installed? If it downloads then someone may need to look deeper into SeaMonkey. If it will not download then we can forget the web browsers, and go back to your PC security settings. I can't tell you much about MSE 4.0, but just because you have the same setup at work doesn't mean you have an identical security settings at home. I know this sounds risky, but you can test some of your security by disabling MSE 4.0 and the Windows Firewall for just the amount of time to try another download with SeaMonkey. Re: Odd Downloading Issues with SM 2.9.1
Even with Windows Firewall turned off the download in question still crawls. I didn't even wait to see if it would abort because it just stayed stuck at 5% and it's only a 13.6 MB download. The only file called hosts was in the windows\system32\drivers\etc folder. The Windows folder, which I believe normally contains the hosts file, just had several backup files with a .backup extension inserted by a no longer installed copy of Spybot. Even so I renamed the file from hosts to hosts.old with the same results. There is nothing unusual in startup: I checked in the startup folder under All Programs as well as by loading services.msc and msconfig. There is nothing that I can see that is unusual. I'm taking a break for right now. I may call Verizon but I just dread calling them as they're going to go through a bunch of procedures that I know will be mostly unnecessary or ones which I've already tried. For now I've had enough. David David, We have eliminated web browsers as the cause, and you have tried MSE disabled for a test download, this only leaves a third party application trying to act as a security program. With MSE turned off check and see if you have a Windows Firewall enabled in your system, if so turn it off for a quick test. Look at all the programs loaded at start-up and see if a stranger has been loaded in the background, McAfee is famous for doing this, it downloads a copy of itself as a hitchhiker when downloading another program. If your not careful you will miss the tiny check box to exclude McAfee at the bottom of the download page. The next thing to check is to see if you have a HOSTS file installed. This is used by the operating system to exclude some nasty web sites from gaining access to your computer while surfing the Web. It is an old and outdated security file first used by Win 95, but hangs around as a legacy file. Open the file with at text editor and see if your downloaded site may be listed there, if so rename the HOSTS file to HOSTS_OLD and see if this cures the problem. Renaming the file removes all its content from being loaded at boot-up, and if something goes really wrong all that needs to be done is rename it back to the original name. Odd Downloading Issues with SM 2.9.1
Hello. I'm experiencing some odd problems with downloading and am wondering if any of you could provide some answers. Here are the problems. I'm trying to download a file from the following URL http://nvda.sourceforge.net/snapshots/main/nvda_snapshot_main-5163.exe At most the file only gets to around 9% or so and then I get the error telling me that the file could not be saved because the source file could not be read. I also have experienced the same problems when I tried to download Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0 from the Microsoft download site but that problem appears to have cleared up and last night I was able to download the executable with no problems. This also happens with Firefox 12. Here is the relevant data so you'll know what I've already tried. I've seen many articles about this problem and so far none of the proposed solutions work for me. This is a Windows XP Pro machine running Seamonkey 2.9.1. I've never experienced anything like this until last week? Did anything change since last week on my PC? Yes: I installed Seamonkey 2.9.1, Firefox 12.0 and Thunderbird 12.0.1. I also did install Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0. Am I running addons? Yes, Noscript and Adblock Plus. However, disabling these addons did not fix the problem. Could the issue be something related to the server? I might assume that but I can download the file at work with no difficulties. I've cleared my download history: no change. I've cleared temp files, ran CCleaner and did a virus scan: everything is OK. I'm using an Actiontek modem/router combo from Verizon but I've changed no settings on the modem. Also, I'm having a problem with the download manager itself. I recently enabled the option to show a progress dialog while downloading located in SM's Download preferences. For me this is very helpful. I'm blind and my screen reader has the option to play ascending tones to alert me as to how much time is left during the download. At first this worked but I no longer hear the tones which implies that this option isn't displaying a progress indicator. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? Seamonkey and Progress Indication
Hi. I have a question regarding the way Seamonkey (as well as Firefox and Thunderbird) display the progress of activities such as downloading email or opening a Web page. Here is my situation. I am blind and use the open source screen reader NVDA from www.nvda-project.org to access my Windows computer. NVDA, like other screen readers, allows a blind user to not only hear what is on the screen but also allows the user to easily review what is on the screen with navigation commands. One of NVDA's nice features is that it provides ascending tones to indicate progress of an activity, such as copying a large file or group of files from one folder to another. While I can get NVDA to periodically read the progress verbally, such as (one percent ten percent etc. I can also have it indicate this with ascending tones, which is quite nice. In older Mozilla products I would hear these tones as email was being downloaded. I would also hear them when opening Web pages. This was nice as it gave me an indication of where I was in the download process. NVDA has a command to speak the status line but I really got used to the progress tones. I notice that Mozilla has somehow done away with or changed this visual behavior as NVDA no longer indicates progress bar activity when downloading mail. Does Seamonkey have an option in about:config which can allow traditional progress bars to be used? If it does could someone tell me which option to look for and modify? Changing the Default Style from the View Menu
Hello. I am using Seamonkey 2.5 with Windows XP Pro, sp3, on a rather slow machine with only 384 MB of RAM. Here is my situation. As I stated in a previous message I use the NVDA screen reader which allows me to hear information from my various applications, including Seamonkey. The following problem I'm about to describe is not new with Seamonkey 2.5 but is something I first noticed with 2.4.1. I regularly use the catalog of the Newark Free Library to search for books: the URL is http://ilsapp.lib.de.us/uhtbin/cgisirsi/x/x/0/49/ Recently I noticed that the page displaying the results of my search would cause NVDA to freeze and there was no way I could navigate through the results. Once I opened a new page or switched focus to another open window NVDA would regain speech. I tried a variety of things to correct this and reported it as a ticket in NVDA's bug tracker. However, I realized that the problem went away if I opened Seamonkey's view menu, chose Use Style and switched the page from Default to None. This is the only solution which has worked and which has allowed me to once again review the search results of the library catalog. Even turning off images and clearing the cache didn't solve the issue. I'm not sure why this worked but if that's what I have to do then it's an easy enough solution. However, Seamonkey seems to always default to the default style and I have to always manually switch it to None. Is there an option which will allow Seamonkey to use None as the default style for all pages. Can anyone guess as to why this would make a difference? Re: Safe Mode/Email Deleted/Am I Up a Creek Without a Paddle
OK, first I want to apologize for the frenetic state of my previous messages regarding this issue. It was late at night, I panicked and this explains the lack of clarity in my messages regarding this issue. Let me explain the situation in terms which, I hope, will be clearer. I am using Seamonkey 2.4.1 on a Windows XP Pro machine running SP3 if that is all relevant. I had been having issues with certain Web pages loading slower than normal. I did pretty much all of the right things: disabled all unnecessary and even some necessary add-ons, defragmented not only the hard drive but the Seamonkey program and data folders, checked to see what was in startup, checked for viruses, malware, etc. When none of that worked I wondered if resetting the program to its default settings might improve things. I did a little bit of reading on how running Seamonkey in Safe mode gives you the option of restarting Seamonkey normally allowing the user to choose whether addons are disabled, toolbars are reset, etc. I did this including checking the box to get rid of user preferences not assuming this includes email account information. I then restarted seamonkey normally, not in safe mode, and found that bringing up the email window triggered the new account wizzard. I do see that my old email folders from my various accounts still seem to exist in the folder C:\documents and settings\david\application data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\ot85ufde.default\Mail My question is this: what can I do to get Seamonkey to realize or to know that it is to look in this folder for my email instead of bringing up the new account wizzard. I do not have a backup copy of the prefs.js file but I am not afraid to modify either it or any settings in about:config with guidance. I hope this clarified my situation. Safe Mode/Email Deleted/Am I Up a Creek Without a Paddle
I think the subject of my message summarizes my issue. First, let me say that I am in no way mad at Mozilla and this was my fault for not properly researching the consequences of going into safe mode and resetting preferences. The problem is that I did not know that my emails and mail account settings would be wiped, which is what has happened. As I have not backed up emails does this mean there is no way at all to revert back to the way Seamonkey was before the safe mode boot?
