You can use the standard Yahoo IMAP settings without jumping through the

SeaMonkey doesn't support DRM-protected HTML5 video, which (now that
Flash and Silverlight are passé) is the only way that some commercial

Although Firefox has (was forced to?) incorporate an interface to the

objections in principle.

It is (obviously) not the thread which interested me, but I get this

I unsubsubscribed from the Newsgroup, went into the profile and deleted

restarted Seamonkey, resubscribed, downloaded the index anew.
I monitor three other Newsgroups on this server and left them alone.  My

Basically, nothing significant has changed - I still can't see those

No, because as Lemuel posted before, the site assumes that the browser

shim code ("polyfill") to provide it.

A polyfill that works for GitHub seems to send belfius into endless

This seems correct, because the website dit not test the UA string.
Anyway ... in what SM version "polyfill" will work ?
Can you install Firefox or maybe Chrome also portable from

SeaMonkey/2.49.5
PrefBar 7.1.1

I exported my useragent extlist and uploaded it to my Web site. It is
at <http://www.rossde.com/test/spoof_UAstring.btn>. Please let me know
when you download it so that I can then delete it from my Web site.
After you download it, you can then import it into PrefBar AFTER you
delete the existing useragent from PrefBar. Otherwise, you can view the
contents with Notepad or Wordpad and pick out the UA strings.

NOTE WELL: The spoof_UAstring.btn file is compatible with the
configuration indicated at the beginning of this reply and likely with
earlier -- but not later -- versions of SeaMonkey and PrefBar.

If are using Windows and you install in the default location, x32
installs in [C:\Program Files (x86)] and x64 installs in ["C:\Program
Files"].  In going from x32 to x64 you will have SeaMonkey twice and
there will be conflicts.

For many years, however, I have been installing SeaMonkey in a
non-default location that is on a drive that is NOT C.  When I updated
from x32 to x64, I still installed in that location.  In my case, not
uninstalling the older version was not necessary.

The questions and answers of this thread prompted me to check my
locations for SeaMonkey.  I see I have a folder for SeaMonkey in both
C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86).  Apparently I am using
the 64 bit location now.  Is there any reason I could not simply
delete the 32 bit directory??  Or is there a better way to remove the
old files??

Please check Windows "Programs and Features" to see if both versions are
installed. If best is to uninstall both and reinstall only the x64
version. Just deleting the x86 will leave fragments behind. If you still
have anything in x86 SeaMonkey left after you uninstalled you can delete
them. Might be ancient non working bundled add-ons or plugins then.

My Seamonkey profile is installed at:
C:\Users\Margaret\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles

Check user agent. I think yours is x86 32 bit.

Mine is x64:

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:60.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 SeaMonkey/2.53.4

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:52.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.5

OS: Windows_NT 10.0
Multiprocess Windows: 0/1 (Disabled)
Safe Mode: false

There is nothing in C:\Program Files (x86) or in C:\Program

Windows NT 10.0; WOW64 means 32-bit. You are using Windows 10.

Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64 means 64-bit. FRG is using Windows 7.

It depends on what you want to back up.
64 gb won't be nearly big enough for the entire computer but may
be big enough for data backup.
It you want to back up the entire comp then get an external HDD/SSD as
big or bigger than your comp's storage device.

I use Macrium Reflect and make clones instead of backups.
That way if a HDD, SSD, NVMe.2 drive goes back I can swap the drives
and be back up and running in 5 minutes... remember that some of us also
use computers for work.

Do NOT buy software off of EBay unless you are absolutely positive the
deal is legit.  Get it from Microcenter, Frys, maybe New Egg, etc.

I use the Macrium Reflect paid version and it clones my HHD well but
when I clone my M.2 drives they will not boot-I have repaire the boot

It'd be safer to uninstall the 32 bit version, reboot and then install
the 64 bit version.
Especially on Windows, where the 32 bit version defaults to installing in
   C:\Program Files (x86)\
and the 64 bit version defaults to installing in

System Requirements, Installation and Uninstallation
Before installing, make sure your computer meets the system requirements.
Please note that the new Windows x64 version will only support Windows 7
x64 and up. You need to uninstall a previous Windows x86 version if you
want to use it. Installing the x64 over the old x86 is not supported and
does not remove the old version which might cause problems later.

Selected an email in my Comcast POP3 accounts Inbox.
Right-clicked and selected "Archive".
An "Archives" folder was created with a "2019" subfolder in it.
The message was in the "2019" subfolder.

I guess the folder gets the 2019 date from the archived message?

Confirmed by archiving one from 2020 which created a "2020" subfolder
under "Archives".

Don't know how an IMAP account would work.

Is yours a POP3 or IMAP account?
Mine is a POP account and I used the steps as you did, all was the
same except no message in folder ???

So you have an Archives folder with a dated subfolder and no message?

Tried right clicking on it, select Properties and click Repair Folder?

That did it, after I repaired the folder and did a shutdown and
restarted it is there.

Have you enabled "Advertise Firefox compatibility"?

1. On the menu bar, select [Edit > Preferences].

2. On the left side of the Preferences window, select [Advanced > HTTP
Networking].

3. On the HTTP Networking pane, the checkbox for "Advertise Firefox
compatibility" should have a checkmark. If it does not, select the
checkbox, which will create a checkmark.

Is there a current site that has a list of the most current UA strings?

No objection from me.

So the site decided to no longer support Firefox 52 ESR which they
have the right to do considering it is outdated.

True, although there are supported browsers based on the older work.  I
don't know if Seamonkey is the only FF 52 browser out there, but that's
something that's not uncommon for works that are forks of open source
projects. However, I do know that in email, PostBox is based on a fairly
old version of Thunderbird.  If I remember correctly, the PostBox
developers forked a then-current copy of Thunderbird when their work
started, and as far as I'm aware, they've never updated to a more
current release. They've simply added their own stuff to that particular
copy.

Can you access it using Firefox 52 ESR, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58 or 59,
older versions of IE, Chrome and Safari?

Removing the check mark for "Advertise Firefox Compatibility" fixes
the problem for me in SM 2.49.4.

YMMV

When I checked, I looked at just current versions of Firefox, Chrome and
Opera, although I might have checked FF 52 ESR.  I did not try to turn
off Firefox compatibility, and I guess that that particular site
operator is objecting to seeing "Seamonkey" and something else, even if
they seem not to object to just "Seamonkey".

That said, I occasionally wonder if derivative projects based on other
browsers (Iron, Epic, Comodo Dragon, etc.) have the same kinds of
compatibility issues that Seamonkey users have had.  Or for that matter,
some of the multi-engine browsers, such as Lunascape.

In previous versions, if you entered new data for a site where the
Password Manager had remembered your login/password, the PM would prompt
you to update or not. Doesn't it do that anymore?

Failing that, my next fallback would be to go into the PM and delete the
site. Then login and the PM will ask whether to save the data, you
should approve.

I like the old interface:

Enter the site name in the search window to see a short list with only

I also use the old interface, but the problem is the power company
changed the URL where the username/password are requested and for
whatever reason I cannot get SM to remember this login. My hope is that
I can copy the existing entry and edit the URL to the new one and have

Well, I just found out that as best I can tell signons.sqlite is no
longer being used by SM 2.49.5 for password management. Looking a bit
more it seems that logins.json is where this is now being maintained.

Guess I will have to see if I can edit that file instead to update the
login for this website.

That means the Passwords Manager button -- an extra button for the
Toolbar Buttons extension -- will no longer work. I use it frequently
for updating my passwords, something I do for security. It appears that
I will not be updating SeaMonkey.

Is the Passwords Manager button something you created or was it once a
button listed for the PreBar tool bar?

Neither. It is an extra button for the Toolbar Buttons extension. The
extension can be dlowloaded from
<https://codefisher.org/toolbar_button/>. However, you must then
download the Password Manager button from the list at
<https://codefisher.org/toolbar_button/button_list/>.

Can a button be made to add to PrefBar to add the Password to PrefBar?

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (x64)
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101
SeaMonkey/2.49.4
PrefBar 7.1.0
Toolbar Buttons 1.1.1-signed with added Password Manager button

I right-clicked on the SeaMonkey menu bar and selected Customize from
the pull-down context menu. After moving the Customize Toolbar window
to one side without closing it, I dragged the Password Manager button
from the menu bar (where I originally placed it) to the PrefBar tool
bar. I then closed the Customize Toolbar window. Tah-dah!! The
Password Manager button not only appeared in the PrefBar tool bar, but
it was also fully functional there.

I prefer the button to be on the menu bar with three other non-PrefBar
buttons, so I reversed the process.

Thanks, worked as described.

update the PrefBar list of UA strings.

Since I am using Windows 7 (and will not update), I generally ignore UA
strings specific to Windows 10. If you nevertheless want to see my

David,

Thanks for your reply. I would be interested in seeing your list.

A JPEG image of my useragent Exlist is at

The actual PrefBar "button" is at

"button", download my UA_strings.btn file, and import it into PrefBar.
Importing will NOT work unless you delete the old version.

Alternatively, you can download UA_strings.btn and open it in Wordpad or
Notepad (NOT Word). Then, manually update your useragent Exlist by
copying individual UA strings from UA_strings.btn.

David, I just ran across this posting and I would appreciate if you

In the real world, though, you'll probably find that you can't

From your crash report: Available Physical Memory: 5,169,344,512 bytes
(4.81 GB)huh? How is this even possible? Available physical memory
is at 4.81GB on x86? Do you have 8GB installed on an x86 machine? PAE
running? I see you page file is at 12GB so I am assuming you have 8GB
installed (and MS's 1.5xRAM rule applies). Did you run a memtest lately?

I do have 8GB of ram installed,it came set up that way,HP 4540 is 64/32
bit and I run mostly 32 bit programs on it. I have ran a Mem Test and no
error or abnormality were found. I have reverted back to SM 2.47 and
have had no crashes since. On the SM2.48 I also could not play any flash
videos.

Hmm, I am running the 64-bit 2.48 build from AKalla and it's been pretty
solid. I also have the newest flash from last week (24.0.0.194). Have
you tried giving the 2.48 64-bit build a shot?

You have an Intel HD4000 for VGA right? Try updating to version
15.33.43.4425 (from Intel's site, from 2016, or version 15.33.44.4491
from Station Drivers, what I have running) as the drivers you have
(8.15.10.2712, from 2012) are pretty old. Could be just a driver issue
so try and rule that out

Also, one of the crashing DLLs I noticed was Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit.
I don't know if there's a newer version of this app but if so, see if
updating it will help. Also, try running in Safe Mode and see if you
still get crashes.

Yhanks, I will check to see if the drivers are up to date.

This sounds the same as my layout, and I'm not seeing this. I normally
just see the message in the preview pane. If I double click the message,
it opens in it's own "1980s" style window, but if I close that new
window, it just goes away, it does not exit the whole of SM.

Is this on Windows - what version?

One pref I noticed is "Edit : Preferences : Mail & Newsgroups : Message
Display". There's an option to open the message in a "new" window or an
"existing" window; not sure what the difference is, but mine says
"existing".

I got the double click on single click when I installed a new bluetooth
mouse, went on the web and found a lot of people had trouble with this
certain one. I sent it in on warranty they fixed it and now it works OK.
It was a SMK=LINK.

The trade-off is that if the pop-reader uses "recent mode", it will not

I have the User Agent Switcher addon installed. In that I entered a
new User Agent I named Seamonkey. For the User Agent string I have
"Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/43.0". I removed Seamonkey from the end of the string (taking
the clue from David's last post), and now it works!

Oh, I did go in and delete all chase.com cookies before I tried to log
in to Chase.

Thanks to all of you for not giving up and sorting this out!

As I said before .. SM must ONLY have Firefox in his User Agent String ...
... when "Advertise Firefox compatibility" is checked.

No, that would indicate Firefox is the browser. "Advertise Firefox
compatibility" should indicate both SeaMonkey and Firefox.

Actually, when I use PrefBar's user agent spoofing, my user agent strings is
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101
SeaMonkey/2.40, NOT Firefox/45.0

If I were to enable "Advertise Firefox compatibility", the string would be
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/43.0 SeaMonkey/2.40

Many cases of user agent sniffing merely look for "Firefox" without
considering the rest of the string. It would be better to look for
"Gecko", in which case all this discussion would be moot. Of course,
that would have to change when Gecko is abandoned in favor of Servo; but
that replacement is not yet certain.

Does not the general.useragent.overide.chase.com;Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT
6.1; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0 not work anymore? It used to
work in about:config

Chase Bank recently updated their websites, and now they won't allow

I have been using SM for years to access Chase. Not about to use
another browser just to do it their way.

Call Chase Online services (877) 260-2178 and file a complaint. The
first person you talk to can't do anything, so ask to escalate the
complaint. I told them it was their problem, and gave them the user
agent string: (Help/About SM) User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1;
WOW64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0 SeaMonkey/2.40.

If enough people complain, they might do something about it other than
say "We don't support SM." To which the reply should be "I don't
support you."

Solved that problem here by adding this preference to "about:config":

 general.useragent.override.chase.com

(type "string") with the following value:

 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0

Yes, it'll have to be updated manually as SM advances, but WORKS4ME. -JW

Thanks for that. It does work, but a PITA to remember every time SM
updates.

If you put it in a user.js file it will carry over to an update.

It does not work for me using Windows XP and Seamonkey 2.40, any ideas??

View flash video in an news feed

2016-08-23 Thread JAS
I have Seamonkey 2.40 as my news reader and it works great but at times
on some of my RSS feeds I receive flash videos showing the medical
procedure which was featured in the feed but they will not play. Is
there a way to enable to play the inside the mail section of Seamonkey?

I have a brand new wireless bluetooth mouse that has started doing that
or double clicks when I play Solsuite. I have went back to my old one
and no problem.
