Fox webpages will continue to flip-flop, code changed as they see fit,
and there is very little to stop it if you wish to read Fox News or
other Fox websites.

Try avoiding Fox Crap! There are options. There are several hosts on
Fox with major credibility, and they are being setup to be trashed,
soon. Fox controls what you see, and how you see it. Indoctrination!

Avoid the 49cent hamburger that makes you sick!

Recent pubs expose the true owner, politics, and power of Fox. It is
part of the MSM, the cabal if you wish, the global politics, not free
press reporting. Part of the CNN(Counterfeit News Network) global
group of power brokers, indirectly. They use you every time you visit
their website. Then they track you and use you later.

Again I ask, is Seamonkey Ubiquitous like Firefox? No.

Is Seamonkey offered, exposed, shown to users as an option when they
view Linux Package alternatives in the software/application package
repo/kiosk after the install process? Seldom it seems.

More below...

I don't think that SeaMonkey is suitable for every user. The trend is to dumb
down software and unless the interface is simple and the program does
everything right you would just be flooded with support tickets. Looking
aorund I see people even more helpless than 20 years before when they have a
problem. So SM will probably stay as a niche browser for power usewrs.

I am sure you are correct about Seamonkey not being for everybody! No
application is for everybody! That is the beauty of Linux compared to
MS Windows, and all the possible applications we have access to in
Linux, more often than not.

Yet Seamonkey is hidden to most everybody loading Ubuntu - the prime
Linux spearhead for years now, and others like Mint, Debian, Fedora,
..., and recently I now see SUSE is coming up to the top ten installed
packages(I thank the post for the info; from another thread fork).

I missed reviewing SUSE recently as I did not like it 5-6 years ago,
and so did not find it had Seamonkey in the repo/kiosk. I thank the
other poster here for enlightening me on SUSE, I missed it. Yet the
issue remains; Seamonkey is still basically hidden.

Seamonkey is far easier to use than Firefox and Thunderbird, from my
experience, and from other People I correspond with. Both FF and TB
cause me to stumble, it's irritating. Seamonkey is more natural
somehow, easier to use, and People I know agree. It is far more
capable too. Firefox is missing too much of what SM offers.

One guy I know tossed his Acer Aspire 5050 AMD Turion 64 computer in
the trash over FF and webmail pages, refused to even look further. I
use it now - this is it talking to you with Ubuntu Mate 18.04 LTS and
Seamonkey 2.49.5! The guy now uses an LG Tracfone for everything, his
wife suffers an MS Windows mess she hates. So agitated were they I
was unable to get them to even look at Linux nor anything else. Damage
done. They are now Dvoid Google-Android users - mostly. Including
their Android TV system via cable; a Walmart offering.

If money would really help Seamonkey, we all need to donate as best we
can. But only to Seamonkey, not to Mozilla nor Firefox. Seamonkey
needs support, developers, liberated.

Monkey is needed to pay the bills for azure builders and the other servers.
More needed are people dedicated to help and able to work it out with minimal
guiding.

Firefox 62. It works. I no longer get the warning banner.

Thanks for reminding me, I was asleep, no coffee for weeks.

Though I had a useragent override for youtube installed via
about:config since my previous laptop, I used/copied the profile from
the old 32bit laptop I decommissioned. I had not updated it for the
X86-64 Acer nor w-Seamonkey 2.49.5. And it did not include the Firefox
entry for compatibility either.

Once updated for the 64bit laptop and 2.49.5, youtube still complained
until I added Firefox/52.0 compatibility. So youtube still works under
the older Firefox/52.0 ; I will keep Firefox/62.0 in mind for future
need though. Thanks.

Still I don't like needing that, I would prefer Seamonkey to be more
respected and accepted. If only it could be loaded as an option in
many repositories/kiosks associated with Linux distributions, like
Firefox and other browsers are. Even if an older version, a user could
find it, install it, update it after installing the distro. Put it in
users face anyway, somehow. The Play Apps Store routine works.

To do all that is work. I know the developers are shorthanded,
overloaded, and I am not in any situation to help that way.

That might help, but not the primary issue. Many People are not
knowledgeable enough to download nor install Seamonkey, and are lazy
anyway. Microsoft or some Linux irrelevant. The Apps play store
routine is easier for them.

With all due respect for the developers of Seamonkey, and I truly
appreciate their work, especially since I have not needed to replace a
profile now for 3 years, Seamonkey will not be more widely known of,
installed, and used until it is easier for more People to learn of it,
locate it in a repository/kiosk, press an install button, and use it.

Seamonkey exists not in any Ubuntu, Debian, nor Red Hat/Fedora
repository I checked out, nor any other Linux package. I find it at
SeamonkeyProject.org, and Sourceforge via Ubuntuzilla:
https://sourceforge.net/p/ubuntuzilla/wiki/Main_Page/

Few People can handle the download, install, setup requirements as it
is, even if they find it at the SeamonkeyProject, or Sourceforge. Few
People can handle the terminal. And they like the Android/Apple play
store concept on their fone.

Many People are ditching a computer and just use a tablet or large
fone for everything. Is Seamonkey available for a fone like Firefox
is, or tablet? No.

I hate and don't trust that Dvoid junk so I keep Linux and Seamonkey
on a laptop.

v2.49.5 seems to be working great on an old Acer Aspire 5050 w-AMD
Turion 64 I acquired; I loaded it with several Ubuntu packages, and a
Fedora Mate, until I settled on Ubuntu Mate 18.04 LTS for the AMD
X86_64, so far User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:52.0)
Gecko/20100101 SeaMonkey/2.49.5; Though Youtube is now flashing me
that "We'll stop supporting this browser soon. For the best experience
please update your browser." I play with the user-agent, no fix yet.

Is Seamonkey found someplace that I am not aware of?

It should be as readily available as Firefox and others, more so in my
mind - being the greater browser it is. I don't like and won't use
Firefox for several reasons; though I am playing around with the fork
to Pale Moon, it is too limiting for me, but better than Firefox for
sure. And I avoid anything Microsoft or Google. I hope nothing from
either of those thieving junk shops is found in Seamonkey!

There is a good video available to compare 3 main browsers, Seamonkey
is one of them; if anyone is interested:

There seems to be other videos there too, but I have not seen them

GMA was the last Intel GPU generation before Intel moved the GPU from the
Northbridge to the CPU die. Those since then have proven quite reliable with
Linux, and with very respectable performance, not infrequently on par with
higher
cost discrete GPUs from NVidia and AMD.

Don't let yourself get confused with generations. The numbers for the chipsets

keeping

decent
compared to early GMAs like the 950, but newer custom builts from 2013 (Haswell

MSI) and 2018 (Kaby Lake by Asus & Gigabyte) that are considerably better. Best
long term value is probably in the 3-4 years old range, Broadwell/Gen8.

Both Intel and AMD are well supported by free drivers, while NVidia continues to
withhold specifications, which forces FOSS driver writers to reverse engineer,
which in turn forces many of its Linux users to use its proprietary drivers that
are often difficult to keep in sync with kernel upgrades.

This is where real working solutions are found; user forums providing
ref from users of hardware, OSs, and application software like
Seamonkey. And what works is important, yet what does not work is
important too; what needs avoided, what does not mix. Thanks to all

You could also try a later and actually in-support Ubuntu LTS, but if not, as
you already broke the system, you could try upgrading 12.04.5 with components
from Debian Jessie as I suggested.

Let's hope that the reported libc6>=2.17 dependency is the only one that's
stopping SM 2.49.5 from installing and not just the first one ...

Start at <https://packages.debian.org/jessie/libc6>
You'll need
<http://http.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/glibc/libc6_2.19-18+deb8u10_i386.deb>

Then its dependencies
<https://packages.debian.org/jessie/libgcc1>

Then its dependencies
<https://packages.debian.org/jessie/multiarch-support>
<https://packages.debian.org/jessie/gcc-4.9-base>

And apparently that's all. You'll need to install these bottom-up using the
GUI (GDebi) or all at once using dpkg at the command line.

This could all go wrong when one of those 4 package versions turns out to be
incompatible with some other package that's installed in your Precise system.
You'd then have to upgrade each such package as well. In that case you
quickly get to a point where you might do better to try another distro (ie
not Ubuntu) altogether. But as it's only a .04 upgrade there's a fair chance
of success.
Good luck
/df

At this time I must hold off such a risky venture, as this machine
must be kept working. However, I may try to reactivate another older
machine, Acer Aspire 5050 3371 w-AMD turion 64 Mobiletech Mk-36
(2.0GHz, 512KB L2 cache) - and I think 2Gig RAM. I tried to install
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on it, but it crashed, so I quit and put it away.

I could also use one partition on the Lenovo R60e to install a newer
Ubuntu or other package, maybe Lubuntu of at least 14.04 LTS if
available, 16.04 LTS if necessary. If it crashes it is only that
partition, lest GRUB get hurt. I suspect a GRUB problem for a while

Certainly I managed to install it on a Trusty system though I may

have

manually updated the libc6 package to get other packages running.

libc6-2.19

is the installation default.

Supposing OP has a good reason not to upgrade to a supported Ubuntu

Including what rob writes via separate
thread link, I appreciate all your replies, and think I understand all
you folks write.

The problem is then with the older Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS. Yet upgrade to
14.04 LTS crashed this computer, mainly I suppose due to graphics,
scripts. Probably the desktop and X-Window system, despite my attempt
to downgrade it to the simple version. I recovered only with
reinstalling Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS. No updates on that of course for
years, not even the core of Debian Linux.

I just keep the applications updated as best I can, like with
Seamonkey, and this past year trying to use Pale Moon - which seems to
work fine - but limited more like Firefox. I appreciate Seamonkey for
browser.

This old Lenovo R60e w-Celeron needs replaced, but that project
still delayed for now. Moving.

So I am stuck using v2.49.4 for now. Unless a patch job can be made by
me via terminal. Anybody got a file I should try, let me know.

Ubuntuzilla install of Seamonkey 2.49.5 missing file

2019-10-07 Thread MRoss-GMX

Ubuntuzilla install of Seamonkey 2.49.5 missing file

But a manual install, download - copy to - extract, does no better;
it just does not work. So either way it don't work.

Computer running Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS precise Linux. Seamonkey 2.49.4
works fine for quite a while now. No real hangups.

I downloaded:
https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/2.49.5/linux-i686/en-US/seamonkey-2.49.5.tar.bz2

Extracted the download to a proper directory, and tried to launch it
as always. It fails to launch without any display of why.

I am not trying to maintain or run two different versions either. And
the x86 issue always worked for past versions.

So I tried using the apt-get install for seamonkey(Sourceforge
Ubuntuzilla), and all seems well until attempting to start seamonkey,
which returns: /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.17' not
found (required by seamonkey);
and I cannot find the file to copy/install via terminal.

Ideas?

Are you trying to exclude all or some emails of a uk.legal source
that is sending email to the Seamonkey list?

I would need to see the email header involved to explain more.

If you wish to send me a sample email header (capture/cutpaste to

be done to simplify it in the Seamonkey mail system.

Either send to this list, or direct email to me - address in header

Otherwise please inform me.

I use ReAlpine for serious email, filtering is one reason!

POP may be all Verizon offers, but what prevents a Verizon ISP user

VFEmail.net, Fastmail.fm, ..., going for it?

Ant wrote:

To me, IMAP is dang slow compared to POP3. I usually download my
emails to my local desktop. Synchronizing with the IMAP server is
slow. I am spoiled by POP3 and SMTP without their synchronizations. :(

Again, whatever works best for you! Matching ISP email servers email
client software helps! Not all work well together. I changed email
servers email client packages numerous times over the years. Even
tried webmail seriously several times. Yuck!

It does not help to compare an overloaded or bad IMAP server to a fast
POP server, or a bad IMAP implementation / setup / design to a
reasonably well made setup POP server. Any server may be slow for
many reasons, not because it is IMAP or POP. I doubt under a competent
test that a true IMAP is any slower than a true POP for email
transfer, under duplicate conditions. I suspect they compare equally.

Email client software makes a big difference too! Some email packages
are not coded well to handle both POP IMAP. They are coded well to
handle one much better than the other. For example:

I would recommend to never use UofWash Pine/Alpine email client for
any POP server, as it is known to be poorly coded for POP; it is an
imitation POP code UofWash wrote. But Pine/Alpine screams under true
IMAP use. I love that email package - it is fast - no graphics to
slow you down loading reading high volumes of email! Fast with many
IMAP folders open to jump around to. Interfaces well with a graphical
browser for inline or attachments. It mimes HTML fairly well. Yet
connected to a bad (proprietary) IMAP server design like Gmail or
Hotmail it crumbles with all kinds of problems, because Pine/Alpine is
RFC compliant - not a hack job. Complaints to the Pine/Alpine support
forums continue over over for the same old Gmail Hotmail problems.

Seamonkey / Mozilla can handle Gmail Hotmail (POP or IMAP servers)
far better than Pine/Alpine, if those servers are so important to the
user to keep them.

Sylpheed seems to be a good email client package too, but I cannot
claim much experience with it. And for Gmail POP IMAP servers
Sylpheed offers special setup selections. Gee I wonder why? Could
GMail be something other than IMAP RFC compliant? Like Proprietary?

I would not blame POP for being a slow design, but it often is slow
for me - using Seamonkey or otherwise, for some reason (whether
Inbox.com or Yahoo.com, I used numerous other POPs over the years).
All email servers I ever used, dozens, periodically were slow. I
suspect email servers by the work they are expected to do are
inherently slow. They all are often under tremendous work loads. Time
of day makes a big difference too!

And worse with POP, if the server connection breaks - I often found no
recovery, start over transferring all msgs. If that doesn't slow you
down tick you off nothing will!

I never find POP to be useful for me! Just good for testing out
setups, quick mail checking - but not downloading, etc.

The fastest best overall system I found is Alpine running on
Fastmail.fm, an IMAP system. I don't think Fastmail operates a POP
server. They broke away from Opera Browser now, so no more nonsense!

But, Use what works best for you! Am I too much off topic?

I got work to do. Probably dump Inbox.com for any use like this! It's

copies of my own posts - like I am just another user, I am sure - with
cookies set.

Am I fighting another profiles problem? I created a new one about a
week ago.

Or am I confused on something set wrong here?

See below what I received - your post, that I replied to, so far no
copy received of my reply/post to it:

Thank You, Sir! And there are 2 others missing - that I will not repost
- moot now. Lost possibly due to an inet problem here with ATT cellular
data, with a Seamonkey profile that went bad. Maybe it is all fixed
now. I assume I should receive a copy of what I post/send to the list -
like every user does, to confirm, as I selected that option on the
preferences webpage. And this post should show up in my inbox too, being
I send it to the list. If I receive it, I will know. ...

We will see if this mess is fixed. Thanks Again!

Recently an important folder seems have disappeared; I can no longer
find it in Bookmarks Manager.

I can find individual bookmarks in that folder using the search
feature, so I know the folder hasn't been deleted -- I may have dragged it to
somewhere else in my folder structure, but I can't find the folder.

Is there any way to figure out the LOCATION of an individual
bookmark in the Bookmarks Manager?

Yes! But the following fix sounds good! I will try it too! Thanks! More
below...

You might look at
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/addon/show-parent-folder/?src=ss

I use it with SM 2.32.1 after I run it through the Extension Convertor
at http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/ -- Works great for me. You
set the columns you want to show in the search when using the Bookmark
manger by going to View in the manger.

When I went to the add-on link above it show that it is now compatible
with SM 2.33.1, how did you get it to install?

Forget that I see you need to run it through the add-on converter the
next link down. Thank you!

Hope you got it to work. The Extension Converter works great for many
add ons.

Yes I did get it to work, and yes it does work great.

I am glad to read of this, yet skeptical from experience. Profile
corruption plagues Seamonkey. Until that profile corruption problem is
fixed, Seamonkey can never improve for serious users! And every new
add-on / Extension / ... causes more trouble.

Complaint:

Folders Bookmarks lost in the Seamonkey Bookmark system, lost in
folder hierarchy, is a problem for years. Many users know it. But then I
find the Seamonkey Bookmark system a bigger mess than it was prior to
the Firefox Bookmark system being added. The older Seamonkey Bookmark
system, that was initially updated from the Mozilla Suite - where
Seamonkey came from, was superior in many ways, not so damned clumsy
anyway! The original Seamonkey group did very well solving problems,
updating making the old Mozilla Suite better. Where did they go?

Firefox is a mess the Bookmark system is the worst of it. That is why
I ditched Firefox when it first appeared for Windows XP. And then, as I
switched to Ubuntu in 2012 - I trashed the Firefox they included with
the package, installed Seamonkey. I returned to Mozilla/Seamonkey
quickly after trying Firefox! Irrelevant for now...

Solution:

Anybody looking for a stored but lost folder or bookmark, lost in the
Seamonkey Bookmark folder hierarchy, can find it using the bookmark
manager search feature, then find the folder where it is - using this
procedure, correct their missing link:

1) In the Bookmark Manager, Search to find missing bookmark; Then;
2) Click on the missing bookmark(online or offline - irrelevant);
3) Once the page loads or errors from being offline, right
   click the page  select Bookmark This Page;
4) A small window will open offering to Edit This Bookmark;
5) See to the right of the Folder: entry a small square
with an arrow, click it to open / expose the full
folder hierarchy below, where the missing folder /
   bookmark is stored;
6) Scroll down to locate the highlighted bookmark folder
   name, the hierarchy of folders is exposed;
7) Now you know where the missing folder / bookmark is,
in which folder - full hierarchy! Leave it there to
use, or move it, - your choice!

Obviously a better way is needed. Full hierarchy needs
to be included openly in the Bookmark manager like the
creation visit date is. Maybe when Properties is
opened. That may be harder than its seems though,
program code required. But for now...I hope this helps
too. If it does not - let me know. This is an old bug
to me as well!
